WIW: In gryffin's slippers

Thanks to gryffin and Angie, I am now the owner of a pair of Merrell Encore Ice clogs, which I intend to use as slippers. I got mine in a colour called "cinnamon," which is a soft red.

Seeing as I am still sick, I'm at home even more than usual. (Yes, I travelled on the weekend. Was it a good idea? No. Sveta told me not to, and she was right.)

Thank goodness for warm footwear that keeps my feet well away from our freezing cold floors.

I admit, I feel a bit like an ice elf. They are a long way away from fashionable pointy toes. But hey. They do the job.

Thanks, gryffin and Angie!

Note: I also ordered a few more contenders. I have decided to keep these for sure because they filled the requirement for a warm, easy-on/ easy-off and outdoor-ready option (for taking out recycling, etc.).  But I may keep at least one other pair. I'll post those separately.

These slippers in this colour make me smile. You are one adorable ice elf in those plaid pants;-) And hurrah for comfy footwear that keeps your feet warm.

Travelling over the weekend may have been too soon indeed, Suz-((( You are now under YLF orders to take extra rest this week. Keep us posted on that pretty please!

And yes, please also keep us posted on the other slipper contenders:-)

Every girl needs cozy feet at home, even when she's not sick!

I'm a big fan of your plaid pants.  I'm afraid to try them myself, but I'm a definite fan!

Take time to recover fully, Suz.  Those lungs needs to last!

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

Gosh Suz - I never saw them in that color!!  Pretty!!  So glad your feet are warm and comfy.  I find the arch support, fabulous stick to your feet quality shape and comfort has me in thrall.  Needless to say, the black is a bit easier to incorporate in less obvious way if you are not loving the style  (the cinnamon color is very pretty but you have suede, the cream lining and two colors on the sole!)  I know you are just using them as slippers but the black (okay I understand not your color) would blend in with your pants, add socks and they absolutely disappear.  Either way, happy warm feet uber all!!

PS hope you are feeling better soon!!  Stay snug and try not to over do!!

Sorry you are sick...I have been popping in and out and didn't know. However, you look as stylish as ever and those of us in colder climes absolutely need stylish, warm, and comfy house shoes/slippers. Those clogs fit the bill in my book. Feel better!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks for the good wishes, all. I think this virus must be on its way out, but I fear I have a few days left. Pleurisy. Ugh. I thought it was an 19th century ailment.

gryffin, you are right about the black -- it would blend more. I was hoping these would feel a bit "fun" for at home, if you know what I mean. Maybe next time I get a pair I will go for black. Because I suspect there will be a next time. As you say, they have great arch support and feel secure, which is really important in a slipper for me, and something my last ones lacked.

  • gryffin replied 9 years ago

Suz - they are really pretty and definitely fun!!  Don't forget waterproofing spray if you are going to run dash outside in them!!  They clean up well from mishaps(I would know!)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thank you for that reminder. I will spray them right now. Especially since I will be wearing in the kitchen and drops of stuff may fall on them. I really find them exceptionally cozy and supportive and also a bit "springy" which is also great on hard floors. Thank you, again!

Those look comfy! I have some kind of slipper that is more outdoor-friendly than my poufy bedtime ones and I got them in both brown and black (for when i was wearing a lot of khaki)! I'll run outside to pick tomatoes in them (if yard is dry) rather than change into garden shoes. Slipper capsule doesn't have to be too large, but definitely deserves attention (hot weather, cold weather, different sock weights, absolute pillow-comfort, take out trash durability- comfort).

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

I can see why you were drawn to the brown Suz- They look really nice up-close, and the fur lining very cosy indeed!

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

    Fun slippers!
I hope you feel better soon. How funny- I wondered about pleurisy as soon as you mentioned lung scarring because my roommate in college had pleurisy and bronchitis and had scarring on her lungs as well. I hope it's not permanent.

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Oh Suz, I've had pleurisy too it isn't fun. Are you in pain? Please take care xxoo.

Nice slippers - hope the others work too :)

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

Cute and cozy indoor shoes!  I hope you will take serious care of yourself now and to copy Sveta's advice NO travel or "going out" whatsoever until you are WELL. Can you do some breathing exercises? I thought that it was a good thing when the lungs are involved but you'd have to look it up to be sure. I read something recently that said exercise and diet can add ten years to your life, breathing *right* can add twenty years to your life.

Oh my god those are the cutest little shoes ever!  And I actually laughed out loud because you are probably the only one who could wear little red ice elf shoes and actually look cute doing so:)  I totally want a pair!  I am always barefoot, or in socks at best , in the house and now my feet are hurting just because you mentioned the support and cushioning from our old hardwood floors.....which are throughout my entire house.  Ok, ok, I'm caving and getting myself a pair. Bonus : figure it will add 2 " to my height, which is not a bad thing in my house .

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 9 years ago

Pleurisy, really? I thought that was not something people got anymore either. Sounds like one of those mysterious 19th century illnesses in which the character (not the heroine) found that her looks were destroyed forever afterwards because she lost all her colour and her hair went dull. Fortunately you are still looking fab, even if sick, so it's not an Austen side character result for you!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Nice slippers, even better since they have arch supports. And I love those plaid pants!

OK, so I thought you had learned to listen to Sveta?! You should not have gone out on the weekend! Always listen to Sveta. As I learned in Boston, she really does know best.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

I would not say "I told you so" just because you are sick and I want to spare you (but next time I am driving to Kingston to tie you up to your bed, young lady!)
On the bright note the slippers are cute. Don't know about the ice elf but they do remind me of Nils Holgersson story :-) They go well with plaid!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Sveta, exactly! That's the kind of image I had in mind!  Well, I will have fun as an ice elf, and I am absolutely okay if you are calling my foolishness. I really thought I was well and the doctor said I was okay to travel. And I had all kinds of reasons for going. I was meeting a friend from NB. I haven't seen her for years. The last time we were to meet, two of her brothers were tragically killed in an air accident while she was on the way to meet me! So it was an important occasion.

Karen, you are so, so right. :)

Ummlila, you and me, both! I actually feel as if I have totally lost my looks (not to mention my energy) but I hope my hair won't fall out.

Lisa, here's the link for my Canadian source -- 3 colours available: http://www.walkingonacloud.ca/.....55944.aspx

Texstyle, I think breathing exercises are good and I have been trying some. I have to be careful not to provoke a cough.

Caro, I'm somewhat relieved to know I'm not alone, although I wish you had never had to deal with this. It's awful.

Sara, you are a better diagnostician than my doctor!

Lyn, they are SUPER cozy and also probably good for the feet (wool has emollient oils).

Unfrumped, I am coming to see the wisdom of an actual slipper or house shoe capsule! Thank you!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Oh gosh, Suz, that's a good enough reason to have gone out to meet your girlfriend. What a sad story. I am so sorry that you're still sick. And I am also googling pleurisy - I'd only read about it in books (jeez you're keeping me busy learning words, first "gestalt", now "pleurisy"...and I thought I was pretty good with vocab...) :) :)

I laughed at your ice elf reference. Very cute. Those shoes look comfy. I am in a similar boat. I need to replace my neon green crocs that I wear in the house. I just really need something supportive, and am hesitant to order without trying on. I looked up those Merrells, and then saw a similar model in light grey that might work for me. I really need the support, but my foot gets tired in slip ons if I have to keep pushing my big toe up to keep them from slipping off my foot. Sounds weird.

You are still looking fab in your home-sick clothes. Those dark plaid pants are so great.

Feel better soon. What a rough ride.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Those are perfect for your purposes. Now get well!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

High five my Merrel Slipper Sister. You look extra adorable, and I REALLY hope you feel 100% soon.

I have these on my feet right now:

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Sending you lots of healing thoughts & please don't sneeze :) :)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Ha, yes, Caro -- I told my husband that I feel perfectly well now as long as I don't cough, sneeze, laugh, move, or breathe!!

Jackie, if you like your Crocs, I would recommend these shoes. I am not sure you would need the "ice" version (with the fleece). You might want the regular version or the "breeze" like Angie has. They do an incredible job of gripping my foot and keeping it in place so I don't have to do the work to keep it on.

  • Gigi replied 9 years ago

Oh, those slippers are cute! They remind me of Dutch clogs.

I'm sorry you're still under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Cute, cozy slippers! I hope you're better soon, Suz.

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

I hope you feel better soon.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

You poor soul, you have been sick so long.  But your at home outfit is practical and chic and you look really good!  I like the cognac accent that the footwear provides.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Love it all except that you are sick. :(

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Cute!  And if it serves the purpose .... a big fat yay!!!  What's up with your health? :( ... Hope you feel better soon.  Sending some healing vibes your way x

  • Sharon replied 9 years ago

So sorry you're still not well. But you look amazing! The high contrast of the edging on the top and the cardigan against the lower contrast plaid pants looks so fresh. You always look so beautifully put-together. Your outfits have a great sense of unity that is very appealing.

I have been thinking about your difficulty in finding statement pieces for your wardrobe, and it occurred to me that maybe it's not so much that they aren't available in your shops, but more you just aren't drawn to them? I feel like a lot of your outfits make a statement just by the pieces you choose to put together. The individual pieces may be simple, but the way you combine them gives them a huge impact. Which, now I think about it, is probably the definition of style. Do you really want (and feel drawn to) statement pieces or do you want to want them? Something to consider. I could be wrong. I often am. :)

The slippers are super-cute and definitely add a bit of fun to your outfit. I love the idea of furry slippers, although I don't envy you the approaching cold weather.

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

They look very comfortable and cozy! I really think comfort is the only criterion for slippers, so I think you're good. I'm sorry to hear that you're still sick. :(

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Love them, esp as they are a cheery color! Your outfit is also very high end for working at home and still sick??? OMG, please get well soon! Warm and comfy slippers will help!:-).

  • viva replied 9 years ago

I think I am going to order them too! My slippers desperately need replacing, and right now I can't even find them, so I am sitting here wearing DH's big socks. It's not a great look. :)

I've been thinking of you so much, Suz. Please ... no more travel or field trips until you are well!!!!!
