WIW: No Slouch

So, yesterday winter arrived on cue with sleet and freezing rain and slush. And eventually a dusting of snow as the temperatures dropped. Naturally I had dozens of errands to run. My last stop was a local pub for a holiday drink with a few friends.

This was a job for skinnies and tall boots! I wore my Gap Really Skinny pants and broke out the Gap sweater, too.

The sweater performed brilliantly over a long sleeved T while I was outdoors. It was just right. But inside it was hot and itchy. I took it off when I got home. :-(

I am hoping a cold water wash will help. Not sorry I bought it anyway, because I have plenty of times when I need to be outdoors in a warm sweater. But next time I will wear something prettier underneath so I can disrobe in public without embarrassment. (My layering T was not for public eyes!)

Worn outside with my colour blocked Vince Camuto pea coat - love this coat! And my newsboy hat, which is a bit OLD hat, I know....and maybe not the best with the coat, but there was no way I was going to let my head get sopping wet in that weather. This kept me warm and dry.

    So cute and perfect!
I agree about the chunky knit problem (being too hot inside) I have this problem with all my sweaters since I've been living on the East Coast, where houses are often older, build in brick or stone, and where heating sometimes means overheating. West Coast was different, you could wear these inside, insulation was not as good.

I find I do better keeping sweaters on when I go dine out, for example.

Wearing something prettier underneath is one good option too.
Itchiness: cold wash with a bit of liquid fabric softener?

That Gavroche hat is totally you, and totally adorable on you!

I think you look stylish and warm. Shame that you find the sweater itchy as it looks great, as you said, just dig out another 't'next time and you have all bases covered.

Looking good, Suz! High five - we both wore this sweater on our first winter day yesterday!
I wore mine in the office all day yesterday and it was OK. Maybe you are running hotter that I am?
I am going to wash mine soon - cream color is merciless - and will let you know if the wash changes anything.
BTW, I also like this hat on you and FWIW it works with the coat IMO.

Looks totally perfect Suz! That grey sweater is a nice change from the cream one. Don't you just hate when the weather jumps in and makes everything harder? Haha...we need to move somewhere tropical!

    Perfectly cozy look, Suz!

Wonderful look, I think the grey color is fab. I actually really love the hat, and it gives a nice spot of color on an icky day. How great to look fab AND be weather appropriate!

That sweater is great on you. I hope it softens in the wash. I'm surprised the bulky knits can be a bit too warm sometimes where you live. And this one is not even 100% wool! Do you think in general commercial buildings are heated more (to a warmer temperature) than they were when we were growing up? I know this would have been perfect for the drafty house I used to live in in the northeast, but sometimes we'd go out somewhere and they would have the thermostat just cranked. And my "liner" layers were none too pretty as well.

Anyway! Your boots and coat look terrific and that's a cute hat. Are you getting any use out of the blue cloche?

You look cozy and comfy! I LOVE your coat. I'm sorry the sweater was itchy. Try rinsing it with some hair conditioner - that often helps with scratchy wool a lot (because if you think about it, wool is just hair!).

I definitely think people keep their houses warmer and places are better insulated than they used to be. Plus, the pub yesterday was super crowded, which meant more than typical heat.

I don't think I run especially warm, but I might be wrong about that. (I guess we're all used to the way we are personally, right?) I know, for example, that my daughter runs WAY warmer than I do (I am forever amazed that she is not freezing cold in her t shirt and thin coat when I am already wearing layers and my warmer coat).

OTOH, I wouldn't say I run COLD, either.

As for the itch, I'm hopeful the wash will help. It usually does make a difference.

Claire, I wore the cloche all winter last year! I haven't had it on yet here because it hasn't been chilly enough, but I will be wearing it from here on in! I like it better with my red coat, though.

What a great look for running around in inclement weather! sorry to hear the sweater was hot and itchy though - hopefully the wash will help with the itch factor.

    Adore you in that cap!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Love it! You and the sweater are a great match.

    FAB grey knit Suz.
Annoying to have to take off inside though. Someone should invent lined sweaters that we could wear on their own or with camis only!

Love the colour on you, darn the itch factor though.

    KILLER

    All layered versions.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Well you look fantastic! I hope you manage to de-itch the sweater because it looks superb on you. And I'm with you- wet weather calls for tall boots and skinnies.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Well, thank you all, and I meant earlier to give a shout-out to Isis, my boot twin! These are Clarks from a couple of seasons ago, and good wet/ snowy weather boot for sure. Sort of a mixed engineer-equestrian boot.

This looks great on you, and how interesting, that you are running hot in it. I wore mine yesterday, layered with an AT long-sleeved tee, and I was just right temperature-wise. You look great in the gray color and I love your Vince Camuto pea coat. Hope you're having fun at your holiday parties.

  • Karie replied 11 years ago

Winter has arrived here too, Suz - would ya stop sending that cold Canadian weather my way, please?!
Sorry to hear your sweater is itchy :( Mine is too, but that problem was solved by a long sleeved T, and being indoors or out didn't change things. The cold water wash should help (fingers crossed!).
The sweater looks wonderful the way you've styled it. And, as a fellow lover of pea coats, yours is ultra fabulous! There is some serious pea coat envy going on right now :)

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

    Suz, you look simply adorable.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You look warm and polished. For a minute I thought we might be VC peacoat twins but mine is more cropped. Love the hat too.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Super cute! I love that gray on you, and the monochromatic slouchy combo looks so modern. Definitely feels like your aspirational style!
