WIW: Pattern Mixing Inspired by ClearlyClaire

Today it's been very warm and humid here, yet there's a breeze off the lake that at some moments feels rather cool. For a shopping expedition and then supper at home with hubs, I decided to wear the new Vans shorts and thrifted H&M top and my new LE boxy pullover.

I'm also wearing a new pair of wedge sandals by Reiker. I have never worn their shoes before but these are very comfy and I think they will be versatile with my casual summer looks. I plan to wear them with denim and my grey cargo skirt, for sure.

Your thoughts and suggestions welcome, as always!

ETA: I do not THINK my knees look quite that banged up IRL, but looking at them here I am about to reach for the artificial tanning lotion! Oh, the joys of skin exposure!

Gorgeous! I noticed your sandals even before you mentioned them in your post - they look great, and it looks like they will work with both grey-based and brown-based outfits.

Looks great! Nice to see that you were convinced to wear that top with the new shorts -- they look great together. A fresh summery look that makes me want to lounge somewhere seaside.

The sandals look fab too. May I ask where you got them? I found a pair of tall Reiker boots at a big discount in a local shoe store and took a chance on them. They are amazingly comfortable for long-distance walking, despite having a 2" heel.

This looks fabulous! What knees? I don't know what you're talking about. Love the LE sweater on top, either tied around your shoulders, or on depending on the chilliness of the moment. The pattern mix is cheeky and fun. LOVE the new sandals, too! They should be great for your trip.

BTW my new bright azure skinnies are Vans, too! I was too embarrassed to mention that because I think that's a junior's brand. DD already has her eye on them, lol!

Claire, I can't believe I forgot to mention that YOU are the inspiration for this look. I remember you tied a sweater around your neck "as a scarf" and that's exactly what I am doing here (when I'm not wearing the sweater, that is).

Your skinnies are Vans, too? Amazing. They definitely are a juniors brand; I found the shorts when shopping for MY DD's camp stuff!

Declawed J, I got the sandals at a local shoe store called Becker's Shoes. But I have seen them online as well. This is a Canadian outlet, but I expect they would also be available in the US.

Suz, I was wondering if I missed my shout out in the title of your post! I'm sorry if I did. Thank you so much, but I can *hardly* take credit for tying a shirt/sweater around the shoulders. Everyone was doing it in the 80's, didn't you? It's nice because it adds a little bit of warmth having the sweater hang down your back.

Oh, honey. SOOOO Euro Chic. Both looks are 10's.

You and Claire belong in the south of France.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Love this look and the sandals. I'd like to hang out with Suz and Claire in South of France please.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Suz, you look cool and oh-so-stylish for your warm, humid weather and Claire is always good inspiration. Copying.

Absolutely fantastic Suz! You look chic, stylish and ready for anything! Those sandals are fab!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Suz, both are great summer outfits and I love the pattern mixing. I think your knees look lovely.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Love the pattern mixing and those new sandals are fab with the shorts.

  • replied 11 years ago

I'm loving this big time. So eurochic I can't stand it. Are the sandals a recent purchase? They look amazing and comfy.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Two fantastic outfits! The new sandals are perfect. I love the pattern mix. Very chic, euro or anywhere.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, everybody! The sandals are brand new this afternoon, and yes, they are very comfortable! I really wanted something with a wedge to give me those few extra inches, but not sacrifice comfort.

And I'm sure I speak for Claire when I say that as soon as we get set up in the south of France, we will gladly welcome visitors!

Love this look. You have such a fab sense of style. Love how you layered the striped top in 2 and such fun pattern mixing. I wish I could figure out how to copy!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Suz, this outfit is so chic - love it. These shorts are going to be a real workhorse this summer - nice find!

Suz, you are adorable. 'nuf said.

Gorgeous! I'm totally looking at you (and Claire) for inspiration!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Yes this look is casual but you could go anywhere in it, it's that smart and chic. The LE top fits you incredibly well, which surprises me because I thought everything they make is boxy. Great new shoes!

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

WOW!!! couldnot agree more. LOVE LOVE LOVE your pattern mixing and those shorts and sandals.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Denise, the LE top really IS boxy, but in a nice way, if you know what I mean. It's loose and square but not overly so. It probably looks a bit less boxy because of the hand on my waist. I did order petite, however.

You are one of my inspirations for the shoes, by the way. You and Tanya rock the wedges so well that I knew I had to go that route for summer casual comfort. And a few extra inches to my poor legs!

  • Irene replied 11 years ago

SO classy :) You have amazing facial features too!

  • velvetychocolate replied 11 years ago

What a great outfit Suz! Very chic, and I love the versatility too - if it's warm you can toss the sweater over your shoulders. The stripes and checks together are fab.

You know what? Those shorts you've found - I think they just might be summer 2012's version of the "must have" microcheck pants that everyone around here was wanting awhile back. They fit really nicely - a good slim-fitting bermuda short. So many of the shorts I've tried recently are too wide in the legs. These are a real find, and I bet they are going to be a workhorse for you this summer.

And ya - I'd like to go to the South of France too. Let us know when you have the vacation rental home picked out :)

  • nicoleb replied 11 years ago

You are just so adorable all the time! I love you in both of these!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Oh, wow! This is such a pretty look for you. I especially love the black sleeveless shirt. Those sandals will look super nice with the skirt too. Good job on subtle pattern mixing with the pullover. The result is crisp, gamine, lively and absolutely stylish.

PS your knees are perfectly fine and pretty. Don't forget that professional pictures are always doctored with Photoshop, that is why are eyes are not used to normal shadows on skin and we tend to be more critical. However there is nothing to be critical about here.

This looks great and very Angie-esque to me too! Lovely pattern mixing.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    Suz,
You look so fresh and polished in both outfits! I love the pattern mixing and I also love those new wedge sandals!

  • Astrid replied 11 years ago

You look great! Love this classic outfit. The new sandals look good too.

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

What a chic outfit Suz! Love your new sandals and now I really want a pair of micro check shorts.

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Love, love, LOVE #2! That striped top with those shorts is just too perfect! Cute with it tied over your shoulders too, but I'm just in love with everything about #2.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Those shorts are fantastic! You look amazing :)
