WIW: Relaxed leopard print plus pencil skirt & mixed media layers

As it happens, I noticed Inge's post JUST as I was about to go out the door with Mr. Suz for a belated birthday supper/ movie night. And look what I was wearing! No leopard pencil skirt --- but it's uncanny how many of the elements of our outfits overlapped.

Bitter cold night here. We are not getting the snow that I think may be falling in Boston, but we do have the winds and very cold temps. So I am much layered.

I seem to have cut off my feet, alas. But you get the idea. I was cozy in my sweater tights.

You look lovely Suz. Clearly you and Inge were on the same wavelength :)

  • Marilyn replied 9 years ago

Looking super gorgeous!  And cozy.   Love everything about this look.

  • Joyce B replied 9 years ago

That's a fab outfit, Suz! I love how you styled the sweater with the pencil skirt and finished it with that beautiful coat.
    Have a fun evening!
I must get some Danier, please let me know when they go on sale.

  • Helena replied 9 years ago

Beautiful Suz - happy birthday! That sweater is just beautiful on you, and you look adorable in that hat!

  • columbine(erin) replied 9 years ago

    Very fab, Suz!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

You look radiantly beautiful in #2 and #3, Suz. Killer. The peek of dark red is soooooo pretty and flattering.

And black tights would look fab too. xo

  • Sarah A replied 9 years ago

A special shout out for your coat and happy expression in #3. Hope you have a great meal! :)

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

I like yours better. You could wear those grey suede boots with this too!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Thanks, all!

Angie, that scarf is also  YLF item -- my Secret Santa gave it to me a couple of years ago! ;)

Black tights might have been better in fact, but these are my warmest ones with merino. I will get a black pair of those one day.

Joyce, Danier goes on sale ALL the time; this coat was on sale when I bought it. Subscribe to their email list for updates because there is no specific pattern to it -- you just have to wait and inevitably the item you want will go down in price unless it is sold out, which is very rare.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Oh, like Angie I love the peek of red. I wore grey and red yesterday too! The sweater is gorgeous on you. And that is about warmly I dress when the weather is quite a lot warmer than it is there. Brrr!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! That cashmere sweater looks stylish and comfy/warm. I love the coat in #3. It is bitter cold here too, and we are getting some of the snow (about a foot) but not nearly what they're getting in Boston.

  • Dee replied 9 years ago

You look great and the urban side of your style comes through so well here. I love the drama of your Danier coat in #3. Stay warm!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

I love this!! All the layers are fab! You really look amazing. I hope you have (had) a nice evening out :)

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Wonderful outfit, Suz,  love all the layers.  Hope the dinner was fun and delicious.

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Oh my goodness, I can't get past that COAT!

Hope you had a great dinner!

  • Caro in Oz replied 9 years ago

Love each & every layer. You look stylish AND warm.

  • Laurie replied 9 years ago

that coat.  those boots. the hat and boots and coat and tights. #3 could be my favorite Suz look....

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Good grief, what a great outfit. I like your choice of gray tights rather than black. Not too high contrast, but enough to add interest. I was guessing that jacket was Paige until I saw your finds. It looks fantastic on you. Also love your bracelet with your scrunched sleeves (and I don't know how you can do that in cold, but it looks great). And then the coat and hat--all bundled up and still looking so chic!

  • carter replied 9 years ago

And i bet your hair looked perfect when you plucked that hat off at the restaurant:-) Great outfit...simple and sophisticated.

  • Ariadne replied 9 years ago

So stunning!  Gosh, that coat is wonderful.

  • gardenchick replied 9 years ago

Totally lovely outfit. Fun to see.

  • Ruth M replied 9 years ago

I love your pretty floral jumper, your denim jacket, your fab coat with the big cosy collar, your perfectly-fitting boots. All the blues/greys/blacks look great together, and so flattering with your colouring.

I hope you enjoyed your evening out (was the movie good?).

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Suz, You are a mixmedia fabness!!!:-)

  • trekkiegirl replied 9 years ago

That coat blows me away! Absolutely love it, especially with the grey tights. I like the grey-black-grey-black effect of coat, skirt, tights and boots.

I LOVE this entire ensemble on you.  You literally take my breath away with this ensemble.

It is the strangest thing.  I have long admired this sweater on you.   Yet, I don't like this same exact sweater on Angie.  I keep wondering if the camera resolution is so much better on Angie's shots that I can see more of the sleeve detail and that extra detail strikes a discordant cord in me, while on you the contrasts blend seamlessly?  It is such a minor thing, yet I see this sweater drastically different on you versus Angie.

I looked at the pictures again.  My original hypothesis isn't correct.  I have no idea why I like this sweater so much on you.  It makes no sense when you break it down.

  • approprio replied 9 years ago

So many lovely pieces playing nicely together. I love how that's two pairs of leather sleeves you're wearing. Great look!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

Looking fabulous! Waiting to hear from DD today on snowfall at Boston College....

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your kind words. Guess what? We couldn't get into the movie!! It was sold out. So we are going tonight instead. We had a nice meal anyway. I just wish we'd known ahead of time so we could have lingered a bit in the restaurant instead of rushing out into the cold (brrrrrr).

Aproprio, I liked the double leather sleeve, too, and it was also practical because the coat sleeves are slim and layer better over smooth layers like leather than they do over bulky fabric. And Sharan, don't worry -- I only scrunched my sleeves like that inside. I pulled them down all the way to go outdoors. :)  (Actually, the restaurant was so warm I had to take the jacket off, but I wanted it just in case because you never know.)

Carter, I'm not sure how the hair fared. My other trick to dealing with "hat head" is simply not to look at my own reflection!  ;)

Sterling, I am flattered. I really like the sweater on Angie, too. And I'm sure Greg's photos are higher quality than mine. But the colours may show differently depending on the light.

I would not have bought this sweater without Angie's suggestion. The mixed print struck me as downright weird. But once it was actually on, I found the effect more pleasing. I think the snakeskin sleeve print (not leopard, duh!) works quite well with my own natural colouring. It seems to blend with my hair and skin pretty well. I notice that it looks very different on me than on the Nordstrom's model -- almost a different colour (at least the sleeve portions). Angie's looks more like mine IRL.

Love all three outfits, from the sweater/top to the leather jacket and that gorgeous coat.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

Loved seeing how your outfit evolved as you added layers in each successive pic. And you look stunningly lovely in all three! I am smitten with that coat on you. That might be your best buy in a year of fab buys.

  • Alassë replied 9 years ago

    I especially like #2.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Well done, Suz!  Love that your bustin' out your skirts in cold temps and wearing your lovely tall boots!  The sweater I've enjoyed on your this season, and the denim jacket is a cut above.

I'm searching  for a new denim jacket myself --- it musn't be RATE or distressed.  It must be lightweight, with plenty of stretch, an shaped to fit a woman.  Yeah.  It's a HEWI, alright!  Let me know if you see one.  Shoot it, bag it, and send it to me!

  • kellygirl replied 9 years ago

Wow! LOVE this beanie to toe. The outfit is stunning and so is the coat. You have a winning formula here!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Very nice, kind of the reverse, patterned top and solid skirt, but casualized and very approachable looking. And warm.
I think that sweater is your workhorse!

  • rae replied 9 years ago

Holy cats, I cannot believe that jacket is the same one in the promo photo! It looks so yummy on you. So digging the layers of mixed media.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

    I almost missed this:-)

What a fun coincidence that you were wearing a very similar outfit to Ashley's, Suz. Love yours just as much. Such a great way to Winterize a pencil skirt. That Equipment sweater has turned out to be such an incredibly versatile piece, hasn't it. It looks just as amazing with skirts as it does with trousers and jeans. And I absolutely adore it with your leather jacket.

Hope you guys had a fun evening.

P.S. SO glad you got that coat. I'm probably repeating myself here, but I'm going to say it again anyway: it's stunning on you.
