WIW: Shamelessly riffing off Thistle

....and a few other holiday and post-holiday casual outfits. Nothing fancy.

#1 was last week -- bookending, like Thistle, with the Munros and Amber Sun.
#2 was Christmas Eve.
#3 was casual Christmas Eve dinner at a friend's.
#7 was for a reading at a bookstore last week
#9 is me and my daughter on New Year's Eve. It was SO COLD. My glove was off to untie my skate and my hand near froze in three minutes.

Lots of repeats here of the same pieces. I am wearing the BR cream jeans and the Citizens of Humanity skinnies pretty commonly

Love them (especially.... well, them all!).  I'm favoriting this for copying.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Your style is enviable - I love all of these. My fav is #5 - you know I love polka dots!
What a lovely picture of you and your daughter. We had beyond cold weather here too back then. Now it's bizarre in the other direction - the temps. hit 50 F on the weekend, and I'm of course home sick with a sinus infection :(

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

You look great.  I think you've got your winter uniform down pat!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You have perfected your style and every outfit is a stunner on you. I especially like the Thistle copycat and 6 with sparkle and plaid.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Love the picture of you and your daughter - you are both adorable. You look fantastic in all of these, as usual. 5 and 6 both made me smile.

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

Love seeing that your new this season pieces are in heavy rotation.
Those raspberry booties are stunning in all the outfits, so glad that you got them and they are so versatile.
You look so chic in all these and the pic of you and your dd is so adorable.  Killer skating style!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

How adorable is #9. WOW. I love that photo. It has a marvelous super hero quality.

Suz, fun seeing your outfits like this. Special shout outs to #1, #6 and #7. You have honed your killer simple, clean, casual, modern and crisp style.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Oh gosh the picture with your daughter is too cute! You look fab in all of these, Suz. I totally agree with Angie's assessment of your style.

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

Delightful pic of you and your daughter. And I'm pretty impressed that the two of you are enjoying outdoor winter sports in the Canadian winter. I don't even want to venture to the post office a couple blocks away here in the Midatlantic states - though I have winter clothes practically suitable for the Arctic. :D

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I especially love the outfits with the sweaters with the chambray shirt layered underneath, but you look great in all these. You have a great sweater collection!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

This is a fabulous collection of outfits, Suz!
Casual, but never boring, and with excellent fit and proportions. I can't even pick a favorite- I like them all.
The picture of you and your daughter is so adorable!

Question for you: What Citizens of Humanity jeans are those? I'm on the lookout to try some jeans with a lower rise, and those look like what I'd like.

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

love them all, but what i'm really impressed with is how the same item is used, but you create a totaly different look.
and i can't believe the you were skating outside!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Why is it so hard to pick favorites in your outfit posts?! Oh wait I know .... You just execute every outfit with such perfection and care! The chambray shirt layering is genius!! Marking this as favorite too ... Although I would never be able to copy any of it to this perfection!

ETA: the pic with your DD is absolutely adorable!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

So hard to pick a favorite, although I'm particularly drawn to #1 and #6!  You have such a marvelous ensemble closet, with the members of the orchestra playing so well together because they have the benefit of a generous and gifted conductor.  I think I must call you "Maestro Suz" now!

Love the shot with DD.  Bonding in the cold, eh?

  • replied 10 years ago

What a great collection, and I love the skating pic.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Love #9! So very fun, and such a wonderful (if COLD) experience.

I am tickled that you borrowed an idea from me!!  :D

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Thanks, all.

For those of you who live in warmer climes...the only way to survive the winters here is to get outside and enjoy them! Movement helps. We were layered up really well, with thermal underwear, fleece skating pants, puffer coats (mine is an old MEC youth's jacket -- Michelin man puffy but super useful), wool hats and scarves, and mittens.

Marcy, the Citizens of Humanity jeans are these Racer skinnies. I got them on sale so paid less. I absolutely LOVE them. I sized up one size because my thighs are generous. They fit well there, and are not calf sucking on me, although fitted in the calf. (I think on you they would be a nice, slim but skimming cut.) The rise is very low for me but I find to my surprise I really like it. (I have a long rise and thought I needed higher rise pants, but these work really well, it turns out, although they are obviously not as leg-lengthening a look.) They are super comfortable and substantial weight -- not too stretchy.

The Chambray shirt is from Halogen and is a wardrobe workhorse. It replaces my old BR denim shirt than never felt right.

Thanks for all the sweet words, everyone. And thanks, Thistle!!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

    Thanks, Suz!
I don't know if I can wear a low rise like that or not, but they look great on you, and I think it would be nice to have some for tucking and faux-tucking tops.
It looks like my Nordstrom has them in stock, so I may head over there later today and try them. We'll see if there's a muffin-top issue or not for me...

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

You look great in every photo, very smart and stylish. I love the sparkles and what a gorgeous mum/daughter photo. She will want a copy of that one :)

  • replied 10 years ago

Wow - home runs each one! Cute mom/ daughter pic :)

  • Greyscale replied 10 years ago

I love #7 (and all the others). Such a cool blazer. It reminds me of my favorite Tilda Swinton/ Haider Ackerman outfit but less crazy. Now I want a brocade blazer.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ooh! That's a cool outfit. Much cooler than mine! But I do enjoy wearing this little jacket. It is from Zara and is on sale now, I think.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Great looks, Suz, I'm living in sweaters and jeans and belts these days, too! Enjoy the warm-up!

What is your denim/chambray shirt? I'm looking for one the doesn't have collar-curling issues or pockets to layer under sweaters.

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Love them all, but 1 and 5 stand out for me. Nice pic of you and your daughter :-)

  • Alassë replied 10 years ago

My favorite is the navy + red plaid combo in 6.

  • E replied 10 years ago

Oh that picture of you and your daughter is just precious!

I love all of your outfits so I just can't pick a favourite. It's incredible how consistent you are: fit, styling, etc. are always impeccable. I know you've put a lot of work into building your wardrobe, and it has paid off so much! You inspire me to be pickier about fit.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

I love seeing your outfits like this Suz - a visual story of your great sense of style. You are really looking fab :) :)

  • Wendy45 replied 10 years ago

What a great outfits! I like them all! Nice details too, I love the animal print belt! You look wonderful!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Sarah, the chambray shirt is from Halogen, but it does have pockets. Without anything in the boobage dept. I don't have to worry too much about that.

Thanks all, for the sweet words. I think you are right about fit (those who mentioned it). I get increasingly picky about that.

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

They all look so great I don 't know where to begin! Ok, the last picture - I couldn 't imagine sitting on bleachers in the cold. Ice skating? What fun! You both look so happy and rosy cheeked - now that 's fab!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Suz- You are really rocking your wardrobe. It is overwhelming to see all these great looks in one post.  I have the cranberry Munro's and the Amber Sun sweater- I would not have thought to layer it with the chambray shirt.  Awesome.  Love the cream on you also, and the ink blue with the booties is elegant.  Thanks for all the ideas, via you and Thistle.  There is likely to be some more borrowing going on here.  You really have found your groove and all that hard looking paid off!

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

Beautiful! I especially like your polka dots

  • pil replied 10 years ago

You and your daughter are adorable in 9. Did your smiles freeze in place too? Your outfits are all outstanding, but the sparkle in #6 really caught my eye.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Wow Suz. Just wow. I can't pick a favorite but my impressions are of great belt usage, great jeans fit across the board, fantastic color coordination and must frame for posterity picture of you and DD!

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

I love your defined style, isn't it fab to have a recognizable Suz style? The fit of those CoH jeans is perfection. My favorite looks are 1 for the denim buttoned-up shirt under the color blocked sweater, and 6 for the sparkle, the scarf and the way the jeans fit over those fab black bookies. It's always a treat to looks at your WIWs.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Suz, I need you to put together a capsule for me - everything you wear is so cohesive and perfect, especially when seen like this.  Adorable picture of you and your daughter.  You are right, there is no way to survive winter if you can't bundle up and get outside!

Do you have a down skirt yet? :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

No!! I need to get one! That sounds brilliant. When do you wear yours?

  • replied 10 years ago

Such wonderful looks! I particularly like #6 with the sequins and the plaid, as well as the sweet pic with your daughter.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

I wear mine ALL the time!  I have two - a long one that I wear for commuting, standing or sitting in cold venues, and a shorter one that is good for outdoor activities like ice skating and even cross-country skiing.  Because they zip up on both sides you can adjust for range of motion.  Here's a link:

    http://www.skhoop.us/

Just to disclose, a friend of mine owns the company, and some of my friends are the models on the website. :)  And they have taupe!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ooh! Thank you! Off to peruse!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Suz, you are a joy to behold! I am always in awe that this is your work from home style. I really need to get inspired by you to amp up my home style too. I love the outfit with the sparkly sweatshirt (still kicking myself that I missed on such perfect navy top!) and your cream jeans outfits and your reading outfit but the outfit #4 steals my heart by its simplicity and quiet beauty. That sweater was your best NAS purchase I think!

  • Ginkgo replied 10 years ago

They're all sensational but #6 is my favorite. Love how happy you and your daughter look!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Love them all, seriously you get it right every time.  Those COHs look amazing on you, the perfect skinny jean.  Glad you found them.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago

OMG, you look terrific in everything, Suz! How do you do it?! I can't pick a fave. Every piece looks perfect and each outfit is seamlessly put together. You are a fashion genius!

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

I definitely agree with the others, you look terrific in every outfit here! I particularly love #6 with the plaid and sparkle, but it's really a tie with the rest. You and your daughter are so cute! Your jeans seem to be especially made for you.

  • Kiwibird replied 10 years ago

You look great in all of the outfits Sue - you really have a "workable" wardrobe!  I love that photo of you and your daughter - looks like you're having fun no matter the weather!!  It's hard to imagine what it must be like in temperatures like that when we're enjoying our summer.....

  • krishnidoux replied 10 years ago

    Love these! What chic!
    My favorites: 2,4 and 7.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

You have really found your Groove and you Own it!  Love them All!!!!

  • In My Joi replied 10 years ago

Very nice Suz! You inspire me to look at sweater again :) No 5 with the Polka Dot, my oh my!!!

P.S. Love the shot of the snow! Don't get much of that here in Southern Cali

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

Geeeezzz. you just never miss. They are all beautiful .  And Thistle will be proud.

I can't stop thinking about what you said that you are falling "back" on your old formula of sweater and jeans.  I hope that you can see that it is not the "old" formula at all......

  • replied 10 years ago

Heavens Suz, I'm having trouble picking any favourites as all iterations are fab, but here goes...#2: love the whiteout with burgundy touches, I could copy :); #4 love a bit of animal print; #5, loving the plaid and glitter; #7, very chic and modern.

Great pics of you and pal and DD!

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

Wow, what a great collection of outfits! Thanks for sharing these! I never thought of pairing Amber Sun sweater with a button-down - great idea! Your sweater and jeans formula works fabulously in these sophisticated interpretations.

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

Well, you are so lovely in all of these Suz!
I especially like your blue jeans- are they the 'high-end' ones you have talked about before?
I appreciate the outdoor pic with your DD- it made be feel cool and warm-and-fuzzy all at once.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Your wardrobe looks so cohesive, you did a great job putting together your pieces.  And you have lots of nice colors too, creams, reds, blues, fun prints, it's a treat to see them together.  I am also remixing a lot of pieces right now, into the same combinations so I don't have too many WIWs lately.
