WIW: Soft white for spring

Yesterday's outfit was all about a relaxed silhouette in graphic black (and navy) and white, with a pop of red.

Today's outfit is soft white with black and a touch of grey. Soft felt right, because the occasion was a baby shower for one of my daughter's teachers.

It warmed up a tiny bit, and we were in the car, so I didn't need a heavy coat.Yippee!

This is the debut of the Gap mesh sleeve sweater. I hope I got the right size and I hope it won't stretch out too much. I took the tag off. Do you think it works for me?

I also bought a cobalt one which I will show you when I can so you can judge whether the colour's good on me. I quite like this soft white.

Leather jacket: Danier
Scarf: Banana Republic (it felt just a bit too chilly to bare my neck yet).
Sweater: Gap
Cami: BP
Slouchy trousers: noir
Booties: Sam Edelman
Belt: Michael by Michael Kors.

Every single one of these items is a direct result of my participation on YLF. Either Angie recommended, forum recommended, or inspired by other forum members.

My husband said I looked fab.

Thanks, YLF!!

You look great! We are sweater twins today!
  • hedgiehog replied 10 years ago
Wow, your hubby was right; you do look fab. I love the soft shades of the outfit against the start black. It looks so chic and modern. I bet you are going to be a hit at the baby shower. I really like the sweater on you....it looks like the fit is perfect. Hopefully, it won't stretch much. I love this outfit!

I think Angie will be a "faint" and so am I :)

Suz you look radiant! I love the soft white on you, and the sweater looks really fine and re-fined at the same time, and soft. Sorry, vocabulary deficiency today, there must be a shortage on good adjectives in my brain. But I love this entire look. Even your black pants seemed softened, like a charcoal almost. The patterned boots and scarf are the icing on the cake for this simple, modern and texture-rich look! Have fun at the shower, and have some tea and cake for me!

SO GREAT Suz - Wow!  White is certainly one of your colors and the silver and black are the perfect compliments.  I just love everything about this outfit.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago
Thank you all so much. Happiness factor was through the roof in this outfit. I felt polished yet relaxed, modern yet not cold.

    Thanks, Angie and YLF!!

  • Aida replied 10 years ago
    Um Suuuuz you look brilliant in soft white!! WOW. I think this is one of my favorite outfits, if not THE favorite, I've seen you wear. Please wear this top half with your distressed BF jeans and metallic shoes for me sometime :}
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
Great idea, Aida!! I adore the distressed jeans with white. I don't really have metallic shoes...(yet)...but I just bought some metallic sandals, soon up for review!

Sona, off to check your thread.

Very spring! -- I think it's because they gray softens the graphic edges of black with white. I love the jacket and the gauzy blouse. (Pinning!)
  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago
Absolutely!  The inclusion of grey makes it look so modern, and also softer, to my eye.  I"ll have to remember this -- even though I have nothing but winter weight items in grey!

Jacket is out of this world, Suz!  Stunning but effortless!
  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago
Wow - this is so fab. Bottle this one Suz:) That jacket is perfect.
  • Vicki replied 10 years ago
You are a Soft Shimmery Urban Prince today, Suz!

I love these colors on your and the scarf was a beautiful (and practical!) touch.
  • Mona replied 10 years ago
You said it right, Suz. Polished, relaxed and let me add another phrase here, sassy. Every piece is perfect on its own and thrown together in an outfit, they just become beyond perfect. Is the scarf new too, Suz?
  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago
This is just too fab for words. I'm not a fainter, but this makes me want the smelling salts STAT!
  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago
    Dreamy, creamy and cloudy!  Yum.
  • pil replied 10 years ago
Oh Suz, this is fabulous! Everything! Love the lightness and delicate feel of the sweater and scarf.
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
    You are making me blush.

Isn't it great when an outfit turns out just right? This is beginning to happen more often than it used to, for me. It has taken me almost two years to get to this point, but I finally feel as if I know what I'm aiming for and have the pieces to achieve it at least some of the time.

Still a work in progress, but getting closer.

Mona, the scarf was a Christmas present from my husband. It was a Banana Republic winter scarf -- silk and cashmere, I believe. It was on super sale when he snapped it up.

Beth Ann, Day Vies -- very interesting what you say about the grey. You are probably right.

Caro, all I need to do now is figure out how to reproduce this effect in the middle of a heat wave. Hmmmmm.

  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago
You are just glowing in this outfit! It makes me want a white leather jacket too! SO gorgeous, Suz!
  • rae replied 10 years ago
Love this! Cannot wait to copy with my silver scarf if/when the Danier works out. Just the right amount of edge to be a Suz outfit, and just enough softness for a shower.
  • Mo replied 10 years ago
This might be my favorite outfit of yours.  So elegant but not over done in any way.  Perfect!
  • Peri replied 10 years ago
I'm definitely going to take your shopping advice to heart. I want to look like you when I grow up. Sadly, I'm older than you so I'm not sure when I will get there!
  • Tanya replied 10 years ago
Absolutely amazing Suz!  Love how everything works together, and the accessories really make a spectacular addition.I have to agree with a couple of previous posters that this my favorite outfit of yours ever!
  • velvetychocolate replied 10 years ago
    Really beautiful!

I might need the smelling salts ....just too gorgeous for words.
  • Joy replied 10 years ago
So beautiful!  This makes me want to run out and find a white leather jacket and that Gap top.  Well done!  Did you have any bagging with the Gap top?
  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago
Strange - I posted a comment but it didn't show up.  The gist was that I adore this outfit and that I think soft white needs to become the third player in the Trifecta of Suz Colours, in the company of taupe and blue.
  • Sveta replied 10 years ago
Suz, this is an outstanding outfit - talk about power of white!
I am going to copy it shamelessly - I have the same jacket, booties, black skinny trousers and sweater if I decide to keep it :-)
  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago
To me the scarf takes the whole outfit to another level. I can't take my eyes off it.
  • Kiwichik replied 10 years ago
    Gorgeous!
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
Thank you! Ariadne, don't you hate it when that happens? I have discovered that sometimes with the new format I forge to give a post a "category" and then it disappears or refuses to post (while I sit there going "hunh?) You are probably more with it than I am, but I mention it just in case.

Sveta and Joy, I actually thought of the two of you when I composed this outfit. Joy, I can see you in a white or a silver or a blush version and in your case you would not need to wear the darker trousers. (I only wore mine because they are the only slouchy ones I have other than distressed jeans, and that didn't seem right for a shower.)

Sveta, you could do this without the scarf or with your graphic polka dot scarf. Would look amazing.
  • jayne replied 10 years ago
Gorgeous, just gorgeous Suz.  And another high contrast, black and white, trendy to perfection, (ie sooo 2013) outfit to make me drool.  Keep this up and I will be desperately searching for a white leather jacket this spring!  I so love that you are posting pictures more often now....must be new confidence in those outfits!

  • replied 10 years ago
Suz you are a vision! I wouldn't change a thing, your outfit is perfection.
  • Angie replied 10 years ago
KILLER to the power of KILLER. High five, Mr. Suz!

And now I am going to faint.

    *faints with citron crash helmet*
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
    Whoot!!! Thank you, Angie!!

Funny thing, but I did feel a wee bit like my dad in this outfit. But in a good way. I am going to repeat it tomorrow when I take my mother for her 88th birthday brunch!
  • Isis replied 10 years ago
Stupendous, Suz!  You are effortless chic!

Curious why you felt like your dad.  Does he crossdress :)
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
    LOL, Isis!!

My dad loved leather jackets, #1.
My dad often wore slightly loose sweaters, #2.
My dad liked fancy Italian leather shoes, #3.

I do look like him, too.

I don't think he'd have worn the scarf or the earrings....
  • Marley replied 10 years ago
Has an ethereal feel to it!  Love it Suz!
  • Vicki replied 10 years ago
p.s.  You talked about hoping you got the size right and from the "reviews" on this item, it seems like it runs large.  So, an XS or S probably would fit you best.
  • Isis replied 10 years ago
Suz,  how sweet that you are wearing things that remind you of your Dad :)
  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago
Great outfit Suz!  Looking at this I think it's the scarf that really send this to the next level.  (And I am usually not a fan of scarves because I feel they can needlessly overcomplicate or bulk up an outfit.)  Your scarf just adds that final bit of easy polish.  Good thing there was a chill in the air, right?
  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago
LOL, Angie!  Citron crash helmet!  *dies*
  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago
