WIW: Staying warm

It's pretty cold here today (0C or 32F) -- not the worst it gets, by any means, but hardly pleasant.

Yet I am JWE (just warm enough) in my dress with booties. I'm using Angie's tip of layering a pullover over the dress.

This dress has long sleeves and is surprisingly warm for a modal fabrication -- partly because the skirt is double layered. The sweater is the Equipment Sloane from NAS, on its first outing! And what a lovely sweater it is.

I am about to go out and will top this with my grey puffer coat. I may change into my knee high boots as well for a little extra warmth. :)

Oh, what a lovely outfit! That sweater looks gorgeous on you, and I love how you brought the grey back with the tights.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

Oooh hello sweater twin:-) Love this pullover on you, and how clever to wear it over a long-sleeved dress for extra warmth. The grey tights pick up the colours in the pullover, which makes for a very fun look with the booties.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Yes, I really liked the cohesion -- double bookending, in a way. Inge, I hope we get to see this sweater on you, as well! It is a very special piece. I would never have ordered it apart from Angie's recommendation, but I'm very glad I did. It will be in my closet for a long time, I predict.

Lovely!  Look at you - more dressed up at home than I am for work!

It's exactly the same temp here and I was thinking "it's only 32 today" in the sense of "it's merely 32" rather than "it's SO cold".  I'm wearing my culotte outfit and feel pretty warm and comfy.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Ha! Yeah, same here, Una! It was SOOOOOO much colder yesterday...I guess it is all relative. :)

  • Meredith replied 9 years ago

Wow, those grey tights look great with the sweater.  So much more interesting than black.

  • replied 9 years ago

O degrees  Suz?  Sorry, that's positively balmy :)  Anyways, I love that sweater on you.  I have thought about that one since it was first posted in the summer as a NAS pick, and I'm quite convinced it's the one that got away .  I love it .  Great idea over the dress too.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Great layering :)  That's a gorgeous sweater on you Suz :)  Love you in these greys.  I am not a fan of non black tights (just my personal preferences coming out) so I would love to see this with the tall boots and a hint of the grey tights. You are looking fab.

  • Joyce B replied 9 years ago

Looking fab, Suz. I think I will try to copy you, I have the same sweater thanks to YLF.
It's getting cold here, too. I would love to be in a warmer place.

  • Style Fan replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous outfit.  Sounds warm to me.  :)  Wait till it is -37 degrees.  Does it get that cold where you are?

Your tights look very warm.  Are they fleece?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Style Fan, it DOES get that cold here, yup, and more, with the wind chill. But it depends on the particular winter. We're insulated from the worst of the temperatures by the lake (I'm in Kingston). Meanwhile, though, we get major wind (so wind child makes it colder) and of course it is damp and icy a lot of the time. At the moment there is no snow on the ground; that's pretty typical. But by the end of December we will probably have quite a bit.

These tights are not (alas!) fleece lined. That's my next search. I saw some, but not in this colour. Unlike Debs, I am trying to get away from so much black and prefer non black tights if I am not wearing black. But black tights are the most common.

  • Staysfit replied 9 years ago

Oh, it's getting cold where you are too! Nice look! I love to continue wearing skirts and dresses in the freezing winter weather. It makes me feel happier when it looks gloomy and gray. I like the booties because your tights are the right color. I would just cover up with your longest down puffer and hope for the best!

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

    Killer

I love the deliberate and statement bookending of grey and black between the top and bottom parts of the outfit. You look chic, sister.

(And I wore that jumper yesterday. It's been on many outings already). xo

I love everything about this Suz. The grey knit is gorgeous on you & the non-black tights are fab with it. Speaking of temperatures - that's about as cold as it ever gets here & that is an overnight temperature not daytime :) :)

32 degrees F? You're havin' a heat wave! It was 17F this morning, then warmed up to 25F here (sorry, I don't know the C translation). But back to the more important stuff: That gorgeous, warm, and toasty outfit! The new sweater is fab, and I like how you chose gray tights instead of black. I was sitting here wondering what I was going to wear to work tomorrow - I think I'm going to copy this! Thanks for the inspiration, Suz :)

    Cute, Suz!!
It's already been so cold, hasn't it - and the wind has been wicked in Aurora; I can only imagine your way!

  • iLoveFashion88 replied 9 years ago

When it comes to winter fashion, i love to wear sweater and a down feather coat/jacket or a parka coat. I'm living in Viet Nam and the teamprature is often at 10 C degree. I often choose boots, jeans to combine with these above fashion. Sorry for my bad English!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

What a great idea to layer the sweater over the dress! I love it all. Wow that sweater is gorgeous on you! Brrrrr that's chilly....

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, all - and by the way, the dress (and booties) are ink, not black, which to my mind is even better!  :)

Karie, we were lucky today. I don't know what happened by the wind must have been blowing our way or something. Ha!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Perfect rendition of Angie's blog post Suz. Love you in that ink color.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Yeah, it is a heat wave here too - going to be +4C tomorrow. I think maybe we closed our pool too soon? :-)
FINALLY I can see you sporting this sweater! You are a lucky gal Suz that grey looks so beautiful on you - wow! Ink and grey - this is a very sophisticated color combination!
I am also regretting that I did not get this sweater too - this is how good you look in it! :-)

Terrific sweater and outfit. Is there such a thing as JWE? I like to be quite warm indeed!

  • ilzz007 replied 9 years ago

It's winter....cold and colder, feel bad. I like the warm summer, I can swim in the sea, that's great.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

The same fuzzy warm feeling whenever I see a Suz outfit :). It must be a hit then ^_^ Cute sweater!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Aha! I was wondering if that dress was ink blue, because I thought the booties were. Very cool look, Suz. Those booties are so sleek and yet cheeky, with their sock-like look at top. I need to try topping a dress with a pullover. It's not quite cold enough at the moment here, even for wimpy moi.

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

So cute Suz!  You look warm - but also stylish - which I know from my own personal experience of finding myself smack dab in the Polar Vortex last winter - is no easy task!  I'm so happy for you that you've discovered another silhouette that is working for you this winter.  This one is truly flattering on you!  (Love that sweater.)

  • replied 9 years ago

You look fabulous Suz! Love the neutrals.

  • Quietgirl replied 9 years ago

    You go, girl! Looks wonderful.

  • krishnidoux replied 9 years ago

Such a cute, weather appropriate outfit! It looks warm yet energetic. The print mixing make it edgy too. Are you wearing black socks in your booties, or are these the booties themselves? If you are, what a clever way to change the color cut point, showing off your legs nicely.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

You have cozied up that navy dress beautifully! I wish I'd ordered that sweater.

  • replied 9 years ago

That looks just lovely, Suz! I hope you kept cozy and warm. The grey tights are a brilliant way to lighten up the outfit a bit, even if you add your knee high boots. Nicely done!

  • Elly replied 9 years ago

This is a great look-- hope you stay warm. I'm committed to venturing into the world of winter skirts this year, I bought tights! I'm off to drop mine at the tailor tomorrow.

  • Alexandra replied 9 years ago

You look warm and cozy and fabulous! I love it.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

We're about the same temp here today, and I ran out of the house without a coat at all -- and wearing a sleeveless knit top under a thin waterfall cardi.
I did run back in and get my coat, although I didn't put it on --- those driving commutes, ya know!  At least I'm prepared if I get waylaid on the way home!

Love this sweater on you, Suz --- an interesting pattern, but in sophisitcated grey.  I find sweaters like this so attractive and do wish I could wear them as well as you!  I think the bit of shine in the boots is such a nice touch for winter, too!

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Jumper over sweater... brilliant. I should make a list somewhere of ways to dress warm - i.e., ways that illuminate the general tip of "dress in layers." Un-snow people like me really have no idea what that means...

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

The sweater is gorgeous and a great addition to your wardrobe. I like the grey tights and have to get back to styling at least one skirt outfit during the week... Thanks for a wonderful inspirational reminder!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

    Very fun!
I'm trying to wear more of my gray tights,  including some cabled warm ones. I've learned its very hard to wear gray with gray (tights + bottoms) because they are always off, not matching nor contrasting enough, so the double-color blocking is a good way to wear black skirt but still be cohesive.
