WIW to the Book Launch

This afternoon it was shorts and sleeveless top hot. Super sticky and humid. But by the time I had to leave for the book launch I was attending this evening, the weather had changed dramatically - and I had to make a very quick outfit switch before I headed out the door. I literally grabbed stuff willy-nilly and threw it on, and crossed my fingers. I don't know what I think of the result, but it was pretty funny that the book was colour coordinated!

The launch was for friend Steven Heighton's latest collection of stories.

Jacket: BR from last year (waving to Jonesy, my jacket twin)
Blouse: Don't know the name but it is new, a very fitted black button down with slightly puffy sleeves, almost an Edwardian lady type of shirt.
Jeans
Doc Saras.

    GORGEOUS!

Love it! I miss my Doc Sara's -- we're deep in warm humid weather so I have been sandal girl!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Suz, I love how the Docs are more or less "bookending" your jacket, especially since the cuffs and collar of the blouse and the V showing the contrasting black color makes it look like the black blouse is part of the jacket! Lovely. Your smile is picture perfect!

Stunning and so chic! I seriously love this, Suz!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Very chic!

Lovely, Suz. Sometimes it's better not to overthink, isn't it? You look fabulous...and congrats to your friend on his story collection!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Love this! I love that this is classic with the simple shapes and black/white palette but with great arty touches like the patterned jacket and the funky shoes. Very appropriate for a literary event!

I love, love, love this outfit, Suz! It's so graphic, crisp and sharp, but still kind of fun. That is not an easy combination to master. You look fabulous!

WOW. You throw together a great outfit. Is that jacket brocade? I love the look of the texture and sheen in patterns.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Thank you, everyone!

DIanthus, the jacket's not brocade. It's just a print, sort of like a silk screen print almost. The fabric is almost like an upholstery fabric, though, so I understand where you get the idea. It's a kind of woven cotton that you might find on a chair, but the pattern isn't raised at all.

It was one of those moments when I was REALLY glad to have those shoes in my closet. (It was still a bit warm, really, to feel comfortable in them, Janet...but I wore 'em anyway!)

I realized then (as I told Sarah in her shoe thread) that sometimes a pair of statement shoes can be a great gift. Without the shoes, the outfit would not have been at all the same.

Stunning outfit Suz! Love the black&white combo.

Very cool, Suz! Only you could take a short, ladylike *wear with skirts* jacket and pair it with skinny jeans and look cool. And put a black shirt under a pale floral! I completely agree that this outfit might not have worked with an alternate shoe. The Docs say, "Oh, you think this outfit is a little different? Well I'm super cool and I MUST be fashionable because I know what I'm doing--and I do it with confidence. So there." Yeah, that's what they say. Shoes are known to speak in run-on-sentences when they're passionate about something. ')

Love this. It's so creative. With your smile and spunky haircut you pull this off effortlessly

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I really like this. I think it has all the elements I associate with your style Suz. And if you pulled this together at the last minute, I think it signifies that your wardrobe is more than working for you.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    10, 10, 10, 10 !

    DIVINE :)

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

So sharp and crisp! Sometimes having to dress quickly can keep us from overthinking, and instead relying on those most deeply learned lessons about what works. This is a terrific result!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thank you again, everyone! I am quite surprised that this thrown together outfit met with approval. I felt momentarily odd in it (probably because I really did throw it on) but then very comfortable once I was actually at the event.

I think you're right, Deborah, that it means I'm beginning to hone in a bit better on my style and and my closet it starting to work more efficiently for me. Nothing is new here except the blouse (a super-sale puchase) and the shoes I got this season. So it is nice to see old and new work together.

Once again, Claire - so much for getting rid of black!!

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

    That is one gorgeous outfit!!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Stunning! And you just "threw on" this outfit. You're amazing :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Looking again at this outfit Suz (I saw it fairly late last night) and I'm with Claire - you pair the ladylike jacket with the skinnies so beautifully! This is giving me some ideas - so thank you.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Wow, your instincts are spot-on! You look drop dead gorgeous in this black and white outfit. The shoes really make the outfit special. Love it!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

So crisp, chic, and polished! Love! The jacket looks lovely on you :).

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Re the ladylike jacket with jeans: I thought I was just copying Angie here. It's really an upside down version of her skirt (or dress) and jean jacket look, right? You take one dressy element and pair it with denim. I figure if people can do it with Chanel-type jackets, why not ANY type of jacket?

  • HelenInCanada replied 11 years ago

Looks like smart ladylike chic perfection to me. The jeans and Docs give it the fun semi-casual twist. Great for a book launch!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Swooning! I love your jacket so much! Perfect with the Docs - your instincts have served you well.

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

You look so cool, Suz! Definitely someone I would seek out at the book launch, because you look so cool and interesting!
