WIW: Waving to Kari & Celia

So, this is my first outing of this Cassis dress this year. I'm just not reaching for dresses. But this one is warm and cozy and I had been wanting to try it with the fuchsia jacket.

These Franco Sarto stretch boots are looking very dated with their square toe. But their two inch heel is comfortable and looks a little more dressy than my flat boots, and since the ink blue Borns did not work out for me, they were the best I could do on this cold night.

Wore to take my step-daughter out for dinner.

I actually don't think the boots look dated! You look lovely!

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Beautiful, Suz! I love the fushia jacket with it, and the dress is very flattering on you!

  • deb replied 11 years ago

Love the colors in this dress.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

Suz, this is so your colour! The dress is gorgeous, is it a wrap? Fits you perfectly. And the boots look really good with it. I need to try this look more often myself.

  • pil replied 11 years ago

The pattern and colors of the dress are so pretty with this jacket. Have you *not* worn the jacket enough recently that you aren't as tired of it?

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Thank you!

The dress is a sort of faux wrap. really, it's just the ties and the slight ruching that make it wrap-like. There's no crossover. I actually had it altered a bit. The skirt was more of an A-line when I bought it and I had it tapered to a more pencil shape. It looked great on Kari and Celia as is.

It's made of a really soft warm fabric, so is definitely a winter dress. And it has SLEEVES!

And you are right, Pil - I gave the jacket a few weeks' rest in my closet and now it seems more fun to wear again.

Suz, you look stylish and cozy, which is perfect for your part of the world at this time of year. The fuchsia jacket is ideal with your Cassis dress and, btw, I see nothing dated about the boots. Hope you had fun.

The fuschia jacket works perfectly over this dress Suz and I don't think the boots look dated at all. I would say they're a fairly classic design - besides, sometimes comfort takes precedent.

And I totally hear you about not reaching for dresses as much - I think we've been having fun experimenting with the various trouser silhouettes.

I have Franco Sarto boots with a square toe, and I don't find them dated at all. You look fantastic, as usual.

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

yeah! Suz in a dress! Love the dress, pretty colors and pattern and then the jacket is perfect! And I love the boots with it!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Ladylike Prince Suz. I'm loving it, Queen Cranberry!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I love everything about this outfit on you, but especially the soft print and colors.

  • merwoman replied 11 years ago

what a lovely combiination - you look beautiful! And there is that workhouse jacket just looking fab with every wear!

  • nancylee replied 11 years ago

You look great in this, Suz. That dress fits you beautifully and seems like it would be very useful. Sleeves and warm!

I MIGHT be imagining this, but think Angie might have said that square toes are starting to trend?

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Nancylee, you are sweet. I think it was POINTY toes, though! :-)

Oh well. I am wearing these for this season anyway.

Thank you all for the nice comments. It was good to do the dress challenge even for a few days! It really *is* a challenge for me this year.

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

I just wanted to say you look amazing in this! I actually like the square toe boots. The fit on the leg is nice :)

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Such a beautiful combo, Suz! I really think the boots look great, too.

  • nancylee replied 11 years ago

Suz, yes, pointy toes are trending...but so are square toes, apparently.. After my pointy toe vs. almond toe confusion I did some YLF research on the topic and uncovered this little-known fact. Who knew?!

I'm on the road right now and have limited computer capabilities so I can't post links....but Angie did a post on this within the last year. If you search "square-toe" on the blog or forum you'll find the articles.

The new square toes are less exaggerated than in the 90's apparently, so I think yours are good to go.

  • replied 11 years ago

A lovely concoction of cranberry and fuschia tones! So glad square toes are coming back my black boots are still going strong too :) You look fab.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

It's like the blazer was made for that dress! Looks great. And to me the boots look great too, not dated. But I'm not too sensitive to toe shape (except super pointy, just don't care for it)

  • catherine replied 11 years ago

You look lovely, as you always do.

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

You look so lovely Suz, perfect for a family dinner out.

I think I noticed in some of your threads that your now interested in a more refined/lady like boot. Perhaps it is that which makes you feel these are dated although they are not. I could be out in left field though...

  • celia replied 11 years ago

Waving back at you Suz. That jacket was made for the dress. I wear mine with a burgundy

  • celia replied 11 years ago

Me again, i was lurking on the phone and it is difficult to write.
Hope you stay warm and safe with the snowstorm coming.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

You look radiant in fuschia and what beautiful dress. Hope you had a nice time with your step-daughter. It was cold tonight and tomorrow will be lots of snow.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

This dress looks marvelous on you! I think you need to promote these colors to heavy hitters. I did not notice the boots as dated and you really look fabulous all around.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Beautiful - I really love that jacket on you - colour, fit everything is wonderful.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    I know...sometimes a person gets lucky, eh? That jacket is a $20 H&M find.

I have to admit it looks cheaper in person. But it's super comfy (being knit) and I just love the fun zippered pockets and the cropped length.

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I didn't notice that the boots were "dated" I still don't this is a gorgeous outfit. I think it's the first one I've seen of you in a dress. I love the colors and fit on you.
You still look very much like you -- not at all like you are trying on a look even though I associate you and your "look" with trousers. Interesting... I have to think on that some more.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Thanks, Day Vies.

I'm actually a real dress and skirt lover from way back...sort of like Shannon, and Angie, too, for that matter. But also like them, I seem to wear trousers more often this year, partly because it's a trousers year and partly because I now work from home so pants feel more practical.

I probably look like "me" because I still like and feel comfortable in dresses and don't feel at all costumed. Especially in one like this, which is basically as cozy as a pair of pyjamas!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous dress works really well with the fuchsia jacket.

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Suz, you should reach for this more often, it look G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S. on you, esp with the fuchsia jacket! :-)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Suz this looks lovely. The colours are beautiful, and while adore your taupes, it's lovely to see you in these colours for a change. The boots look fine to me. I personally love a square toe. A square toe always looks a bit alternate to me:). Great look.
