WIW: Winter whiteout, holiday version

In line with Angie's blog post today, here's my Christmas Eve casual at-home ensemble.

BR cream turtleneck
BR cream jeans
Michael Kors snake belt
Munro Robyn  Cranberry
Necklace: gift from friend in China
Cuff: childhood gift from brother

I really enjoyed wearing this on Christmas eve. It felt festive despite being casual. I am surprised to find that this cream works on me. I'm so much better in cool colours. But optic white is a bit too stark for me on its own (though I love to layer with it.) Usually I choose a cool off white, more of a true winter white. But for some reason the cream seems to work quite well.

Mind you, the lights are all artificial here. I've noticed a few comments from people lately saying they haven't taken photos because they have no natural light. Well -- if I tried to do it in natural light all the time, I'd fail miserably. I almost always use a flash (especially in winter) and then make some adjustments afterwards to aim for a more true representation of colours.

You look amazing and have totally nailed the winter white.  I really like the fitted yet relaxed vibe of the outfit. It says soft and cozy and seems very on trend to me.

No surprise that you look great here Suz. You have really honed your style and identified what works for you. I am esp. following your color analysis discussion (white, cream, warm, cool....) as i think i have misidentified my season and plan to remedy that in 2014. Love the touches of high contrast cranberry, they really bring out your lips and beautiful smile.

Absolutely gorgeous, Suz. Love the tonal creams with the cranberry accents.

Perfect combo of comfy and festive.

Gorgeous. Fun with the festive red accents. You are radiant, Suz, and a bright shining spirit on YLF each day. xo

Love this outfit and especially the little touches of red for the holidays!

This is gorgeous Suz. Love your Winter Whiteout!

You know I use a flash too, but I still can't get great results with my photos. Do you use some kind of online soft wear for changing pictures after?

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Of course you were going to look fantastic in this - you have got your style down pat. So perfect.

So gorgeous.  You inspire me on my so many different levels.

The cranberry is a nice festive tpuch!

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

This is such a beautiful color on you and you have kept it clean and simple (as you always do). Great job.

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

Me, I love the whites and creams with the accent color.  And gosh, wouldn't this look amazing with your cranberry coat.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Beautiful, I love the red booties with it.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous! Another fabulous outfit. That cream color works wonderfully on you! The cuff from your brother is fantastic - I also love wearing something from years past at holiday time.

    You look great!

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Very pretty! All white suits you.

    Suz, you look stunning :)

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous all white look.  I like how you tied in the red shoes with the necklace.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love it, Suz!  Did you have trouble with the transfer of dye from the Munros?  I wore mine with my white jeans on NYE without a problem, but I was only in them for a few hours.

Love the soft shade on you.  It would look fab with metallic booties, too!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

You are reading Angie's mind with this white-out-fit.  You wear this look extremely well.  But I do think you need a white or cream clutch or tote...

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Denise, I think i need a white or cream clutch or tote, too. Still looking for the right one. I also love Vildy's idea to add my cranberry coat to this! But since it was purely "at home" no bag or coat were necessary. As others have said, our weather is too dirty now to wear something like this outside. Alas. I did wear a version of this the next night tucked into boots that I removed at the destination (a friend's home.)

Joy - you are so right! Metallic booties are on my list for next year if they are still current feeling.

Beth Ann, I didn't get dye transfer from the Munros, but I only wore this outfit for about 4 or 5 hours and stayed indoors.

Diane, the only software I use is what comes with iPhoto -- I just crop the pictures and if necessary, do a little fiddling with exposure and/or colour values. It still looks like a photo lit with incandescent light so colours are probably a bit warmer toned than IRL, no matter what I do -- but it's the best I can do. And in fact, my outdoor pictures have problems of their own due to my location. So...hopefully this is good enough.

Thank you for all the kind words, everyone. This was such a fun outfit to wear, but I agree with those who worry that it is a bit dramatic. It really does feel as if you're saying "look at me" the first few times you wear this. So having a practice run at home was probably a good idea.

    This is glorious Suz :)

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Yes, you can wear this cream color and should do so more often! Great outfit.

  • K. Period. replied 10 years ago

Beautiful! You look fantastic, Suz.  I love that the cuff is a childhood gift. What a sweet thing!

  • krishnidoux replied 10 years ago

I'll agree with everyone here: you look amazing. I especially like how the turtle neck falls on your shoulders. Cranberry booties are a nice touch.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

Just beautiful. Like a shining star!

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

Great pairings! I love the belt and the booties--just the right amount of color.

I've got the BR cream turtleneck and the skinnies as well, so I'll have to try the whiteout myself. I even have a pair of shoes the same color as your booties--however, they are 4-inch stilettos from Victoria's Secret, so I think I might have to choose more sensible footwear, seeing as I live in Minnesota. :^)

    You look stunning Suz!!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Fantastic outfit, Suz. You look gorgeous in this cream shade, and I love that the outfit incorporates not only the festive reds, but jewelry with sentimental value.

  • Gracie replied 10 years ago

Stunning in its simplicity. I love the fit of the turtle-neck on your sweater – soft and enveloping, not snug. I'm yet to
determine which whites work with my olive skin and dark brown hair and will start analyzing in
    spring/summer.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

This is just beautiful on you!
When I try something like that I feel like the Good Humor man, but you carry it off so well. I think maybe the whiteout look works better on blondes. I'd like to try again, though, but with black accessories and see if that helps it work better for a brunette.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has to use flash for my pictures. Your pictures are always of very nice quality and you can see the details. I think using flash is a good thing!

  • Lyn D. replied 10 years ago

The accessories are just perfect to relieve the white-on-white Suz!
    The fit is perfect too.
I agree about the sometimes starkness of pure white against the skin, and you must have chosen just the right versions here.

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

This is a fantastic look on you Suz - so perfect for a wintery xmas eve.

  • Shirley replied 10 years ago

Love the cranberry boots and necklace accent.
