WI(will)W: Here, kitty, kitty...and column of white

When Diana alerted me to this silk blouse from J. Crew I hit the buy button just before they ran out. Apparently it's popular. (But they have re-stocked).

How could I resist? Last year's Equipment kitty print shirt is one of my favourite items. I don't wear it very often in our current weather conditions, but I love it.

And this one is blue and white, and more abstract, and a different style. It's also (as it turns out) a slightly lighter weight silk. I love that the print is not easily identifiable. It's a popover style that could also be worn tucked or semi-tucked. It works with white and with some of my blue denims and should also work with shorts or my VC navy tube skirt. It's not truly styled here - just thrown on with my white jeans to show it.

While I was on the J. Crew site I also ordered this V neck superfine merino sweater on super sale. I avoid V necks as a rule because while I love them and think they suit my angular face shape, hairstyle, and shoulder line, they don't do my neck/ chest area any favours when worn bare -- especially wide ones like this. But layered with a tee, cami, or with a button front shirt, I think this will work well for me. The quality and colour are superb. It's very lightweight, so a spring and summer sweater -- not warm enough for now.

Thanks, Diana, for the heads up -- and so excited to be K. Can Period's shirt twin!

You look ready for spring!! Great shirt, that really is a subtle pattern - or maybe it's my screen. Is that the boyfriend sweater?

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

I really like the cat print shirt on you. It gives your shoulders and upper body a lot of love and by surrendering the waistline gives you a fun different body shape than an exaggerated hourglass that more bodycon styles are apt to do. Very fun! And that merino wool sweater looks butter soft even from this distance! Enjoy both tops.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Pil. It's not the BF sweater. It's this one, which I got at 50% off or something, a few days ago. I sized up for more fluidity. I actually like this size for my shoulders, too. In their lighter weight knits I seem to take a size larger than my usual -- just because I don't want the fitted look.

And yes - the print is SUPER subtle and tricky, almost an optical illusion. Unless you are really looking you can't see the cats.

Love both the tops!! You wear high necks so well!! Love the color of the kitty print top!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Soft, yet sharp. Those Pettys are a fun match to the blouse #1 and of course I am swooning over the fabulous high contrast outfit #2. I also like how the footwear in #2 makes the outfit feel more lightweight.

  • Jewell replied 10 years ago

I just love the color and fit of the kitty print top! The sweater looks great semi-tucked and sounds like a perfect weight for spring.

  • Alexandra replied 10 years ago

I love both! Such a breath of fresh air, with those colors.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Fun top!  I think the sweater in #2 looks good the way you've styled it and that the other options you describe will look good as well.

  • viva replied 10 years ago

The color in that top is gorgeous on you. Love it!

  • replied 10 years ago

    Both tops are super!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

It is a sweater shaped blouse! The kitties are so abstract I can't see them - at least not on this monitor, but the colors are fantastic. And I love the fit and drape of the sweater - great picks!

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

So pretty and fresh. Love them both. Making me dream of springy temps ... *sigh* ... ;)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

These are both winners for you Suz and will work really well with the rest of your wardrobe.

Hmmmm....I think I might need to wear my white jeans and python booties despite the new dump of snow and continuing brutally cold temps...

It's interesting how white looks *so* refreshing during awful winter weather, isn't it -- you'd think we'd be so over it given how much is outside, but it really is invigorating in winter clothing.

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

That kitty popover is fabulous!  I can tell it's going to be a very useful (and fun) piece for you as we transition into spring.  The sweater is a great buy, too.  Nicely done!

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I love the kitty sweater, especially the color.  It must be subtle because I don't see the kitties!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Here's the link to the top; I think it sold out again. If you zoom you can see the cats. It's very cleverly done.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

These both look fantastic on you! I love the kitty print top, I saw it in the J.Crew catalog. Is the merino sweater also navy? I don't wear V necks either (but I will with a cami) and I'm really liking navy right now - it's a good color for me (I think) - it's my black.

I LOVE J.Crew - I might have to cruise on over to their website...

  • carter replied 10 years ago

Cute kitty top! That sweater is a gorgeous color on you. It is a seriously deep V though. Love the white crew tee underneath.

Hellooooo Beautiful! (Waving at shirt twin!!!)  I love it.  I knew you'd look fantastic in it, and I was right, you do.  Gorgeous!  I was super close to wearing mine today too.  I'm training the collar, as you know, since my neck is not long and elegant like yours. Shoulda worn it. I'll have to wear and post soon. Gotta join my super fab shirt twin and super fab twin-dom.

Both look great! I do love the drape on the sweater.

  • gryffin replied 10 years ago

Gosh Suz - sooooooooooooooooooo pretty!!  Love your kitty shirt and the blue merino sweater looks wonderful.  I love it over the white t with column of white.  You are a little breath of spring on the snowy, snowy day!!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

K.P. -- ack!! I will never get it straight. K CAN is my favourite personal shorthand, in my head at least.

Thank you for the kind words about these lovely items -- they will make my springtime fresher for sure.

And don't worry, Carter - I will not be wearing that sweater without an under layer!! I don't want to shock the populace with my bony décolleté!

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

Suz, the kitty shirt looks so darn good on you!  The v-neck pullover is great, too.  Have you tried them together, maybe with the top two buttons of the shirt undone?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I did indeed, Emily! Believe it or not, those buttons ARE undone -- you just can't tell because, well, I'm small up top, so instead of pulling open, the placket just lies flat even when unfastened. I might be able to "train" it open eventually, or perhaps after a wash.

  • K. Period. replied 10 years ago

Bwah ha ha! Now you'll be training your kitty shirt too!  I don't think it is a matter of how small your shoulders are.  Mine are super broad, but it stays closed on me too.  Hence the kitty training.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

    Awesome.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Love the stealth kitties so much! I also like how the v-neck looks so clean and graphic on you when it's layered.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Stealth kitties! Love that!!! :)

K Period -- I thought it was my boobage that was too small, not my shoulders! Ha! Well, I guess it's neither!! I wonder how they got it to lay open on that model? Hmmm....

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

You are rocking both of these looks!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Hah. Killer blouse. It's on my top picks list next week. So fun for Team Cat. You look terrific.

Ines would be proud of your navy and white look. You are fabulous, Suz.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Oooh! Thanks, Angie!! It's a super little blouse and I have Diana to thank. She's not here today, it seems. I do hope she sees this thread.

  • columbine(erin) replied 10 years ago

You sure do rock blue and bright white.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

More home runs for you, Suz! These looks great. Love the kitties.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

I love the blouse.....very cute, it looks great in the link with the light denim too. I can see this getting a lot of wear :)

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Like the both! I had to enlarge to identifiy the print and have never guessed if you wouldn't say! But it's big fun! :-)

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Fun new pieces.  Prints are great for freshening up a look.  And a deep v such as the one here, will be super for layering, especially with button downs or a tank top.

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous!  I love the v-neck on you and how you've worn it.  I always see them worn with button downs which is not my fave but with that white top it is super fab.
So glad you got these items at great price points and the spring weight wool is a true find for that short season that needs it's own clothing.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I LOVE a blue and white print especially with white pants. You look so fresh and spring-like. The print is delicious on you! As usual you and K have great taste!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Suz- this look is so YOU.  Love the crisp look combined with the subtle whimsy of that print.  Almost like an inside joke...  Gorgeous!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

One of my favorite color palettes for spring!  And I love the Pettys with white pants.

Love the kitty shirt, although my dear pup might protest!  He's black.  Can I claim my black tops as "dog print?"

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Oh, Suz, I missed this! What size did you get? According to the chart I am between 2 and 4...

  • In My Joi replied 10 years ago

Lovely print on the blouse Suz, and of course white jeans are always a winner!
