Zara score: Winter indoor footwear! (and fun tee)

As someone who works from home, lives in a cold climate, and who rarely wears outdoor shoes in the house (particularly in winter) I wear slippers a lot.

For a few years I've been wearing the Merrell fleecy clogs. They are very supportive, practical, probably good for my feet -- but they don't make me feel fashionable when I'm indoors. Also, in Canada, winter parties at people's homes often involve taking your snowboots off at the door and then....skulking around in socks all night. Which doesn't do wonders for the proportions of one's outfit.

But look here! Zara had a solution. SOCK booties!! Sparkly silver sock booties, yet, that bookend my hair!!!!  And cost all of $49 CAD. Dear readers, I Could Not Resist.

Resistance was equally futile for this pretty silver foiled tee. Unfortunately you can't really see the detail here. I'll try to get a better shot of it later on. It's really fab with my new hair.

I also tried an oversized sweatshirt but I think that is going back; it's a bit too oversized to work well for me.

Next on the indoor footwear agenda -- a fun pair of mules that I can slip on and off if desired inside. The booties will be great and they are relatively easy on easy off, but sometimes you just want to slide into something.

How FUN are those sock booties. Perfect, Suz. The most stylish slippers on the planet.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

So are you going to carry you around with you in your bag when you go to parties?

  • Cerinda replied 7 years ago

Love all the shiny silver.  What a smart solution!

  • replied 7 years ago

I'm totally confused by the sock booties - do they have a regular sole? (i.e. that can be worn outside? ) I'm not quite wrapping my head around socks on a hard heel - lol.. LOVE THE MULES - ordering them right now in fat. I love the folded down back .  Great tshirt too :)

  • Beewee replied 7 years ago

How cool is that! Socks that look like booties!? What will they think of next?
I reeeeealy like those silver loafers too!

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

Whaaaa....? How is the fit? I need these! I bring slippers with me to house parties but a pair of indoor booties would make so much more sense!

Doesn't sock bootie refer to the style and close fit rather than an actual sock? That's what I recall from last year.

And don't you always squat at parties like the model? What the heck!

  • Traci replied 7 years ago

Yes! We need details about these sock booties!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

The fit, my dears, is brilliant!!

I took my regular 6.5 but they are stretchy to accommodate different widths.

They are a stretchy metallic fabric (not good in rain or serious cold but could be worn outdoors in sun and temperate climes). The sole is, yes, a regular sole -- not a heavy lug sole (I am not wearing these in the snow) but a real sole. With a cute rounded heel.

I paid less than the US price!! http://www.whowhatwear.com/zar.....-fall-2016

They were not sold out in Canada...at least in my size, bwahahaha....

And UmmLila -- yes!! They squish up nice and small to carry in a bag and put on at the door. This is a COMMON practice in my neck of the woods -- everyone carries "party shoes" or else shuffles around in cold feet and socks indoors at house parties. But these are booties!! BootEES, as my mother would have said.

UNA, if they don't have your size in the US, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

  • replied 7 years ago

    I don't know...........   ;)

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

    Very cool!

Kind of like an adult/stylish version of "slipper socks" which are like heavy fair-isle socks with leather bottoms.

I live in a similar climate but clearly my social life is less stylish than yours....folks around here just do the skulking around in socks thing. :-)  Makes it easier to do that yoga squat pose...

  • DonnaF replied 7 years ago

Why do I click?!?!  Silver draws my magpie eyes like nothing else.  Those sock booties look so stylish on you.  I guess the fabric means they wouldn't hold up to the abrasion they would inevitably encounter outside.

  • catgirl replied 7 years ago

Argh!  They are gone!  Like THAT!  If you can get them in a 6, they would be perfect for me for exactly the same reasons they work for you.  Indoor party shoes that are booties rather than slippers!

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

First off you ROCK So HARD SUZ.

Now thanks for the details. These are so cute and stylish the look like a fun semi pulled together type of shoe. I would love something like that. Always going to home event and hate wearing my socks.

I really like the mules also with the bookend of your beautiful hair.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Those are some seriously great finds, Suz. I thought, no way, those are socks?? But they are booties out of stretchy fabric, and they look like regular booties. So great for your indoor shoes (if they are warm enough--I wear wool Haflingers with socks indoors in winter). The mules are adorable, too, and the silver foiled tee is kind of my style, I'd say!

  • Susie replied 7 years ago

You are too cute! Thanks for explaining because I didn't get them either. And I love the mules

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

    Una, I PM'd you.

Susie, thanks!! I didn't understand them, either, when I saw the WhoWhatWear article. But for the price, I figured I needed to check them out, and wow, are they ever fun!

They totally look like regular booties and they hug the ankles, at least the ankles of regular sized people -- on me they are actually just a touch loose, but not enough to notice.

DonnaF - - yes, I don't plan to wear them as outdoor wear -- just inside or maybe for special events.

Chris, my social life is more of the skulking in socks variety, but even in my own home I want to feel fab, and our floors in the kitchen are freezing because we have no basement, just a dirt crawl space in that part of the house (old house). So these will be perfect for entertaining at home as well.

Oh, ye of little faith, LisaP.   :)   If it is good enough for WhoWhatWear it's good enough for me. ;)

Ledonna, I actually thought of you when I saw these booties. They would be awesome on you.

Sharan, they won't be warm enough for the very coldest days but warm enough for a party with socks inside, I am sure. And since they stretch, they will accommodate the largest warmest socks!

  • replied 7 years ago

Haha!  I'm teasing you.  I'm the guest who brings shoes to change into at many parties :)  I think people look weird dressed up and in socks .  Yes, it's harder to get that right in the winter though - I agree.

  • Sal replied 7 years ago

The shoes issue can be awkward, depending on the hosts preferences/views.  I have got it wrong wearing shoes when I shouldn't have and taking them off when the hosts did not like shoes off.  There are some cultural traditions at play here.

My worst look was a dress with knee high boots and bare legs (looking sharp) but then a dress with socks and no footwear looks a little goofy!!

Anyhow this looks a great solution for you and I love the silver slip ons too:)

  • deb replied 7 years ago

Suz, these are perfect for you with your new hair. Great score on all items!

  • Windchime replied 7 years ago

Uh oh, I love the tee. And the loafers. They are going to be a wonderful part of your wardrobe. You are becoming a trailblazer for me for things that look fab with silvery grey hair! :)

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

there are way too many good things at Zara lately.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

No kidding, Lisa. I just collected up a storm over there. I love the red boots, too. Heel is high, but hey.

And this is only the start of the season there....I'm in trouble. Fortunately returns are also free.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I bought the red boots and they look So Good with crop flares I can't even ....

Also the two print blouses are cheap fabric but the best shape and prints ever.

And I got some flat black grommety mary janes that are amazing but refuse to appear in my finds.

Must stop looking at Zara. Must Stop. MUST Stop....

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

You bought them!! So, are they comfy? I have made it a goal to get some bright footwear this season.

The cheap fabric fantastic cut is a perennial issue with Zara. But I am usually drawn in, because fantastic cut and great prints. :)

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

I eyeballed both shoes Suz. I have a great pair of silver slides and I just can't justify another bootie, but both are great picks!

  • Nishaa replied 7 years ago

I'm loving the sock booties. LOVING IT.

Sorry, but the silver loafers with fold at back detail look like stepped on to me, it's my pet peeve.

I'm rather digging the wiiiide leg pants? floral black, what ummlila posted. Wonder if I should search for them at Zara....

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Haha, Nishaa, enter that site at your peril, I warn you...many temptations await...

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

Such an awesome find, Suz!  I hear you on the party issue, and this is an excellent choice.  In the past, I've purchased slipper flats specifically for this purpose, but I worry that people don't know that I'm wearing indoor-only shoes.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Beth Ann, that thought did cross my mind as well. Sometimes the hosts are there at the door to greet you and you do the boot/ shoe exchange in front of them. And if I'm in doubt I think I'll just be ostentatious and diva-esque about this and make a joke of not wanting to spoil my outfit. Everyone will laugh at my self-deprecating joke but I will have the last laugh because I'll have warm feet and a proportioned outfit while they are shivering and spilling guacamole on their socks. :)

  • replied 7 years ago

Uh, oh. I've started clicking away on Zara and have the grommety maryjane and the red boots in my shopping cart. Are these the shoes, Lisa? I'm a little worried that they are polyurethane and might be cheap and stiff and nasty, but if you love them, then I'm in .  Yikes!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

Now that I've totally hijacked Suz's thread ... The red boots seem comfortable for their height, though I have not worn them outside yet. I am still considering the maryjanes. I love all the straps and the metal, and they are leather. However when I tighten all the straps I am not sure I like how the overhang looks on the side of the shoe. And the leather is definitely not high end. I can post pix if anyone is interested.

  • skylurker replied 7 years ago

Great finds. Will the slippers be warm enough for homewear? They look ideal for "party" wear.
    Love the t-shirt.

  • Column replied 7 years ago

    Suz,
I really admire how you have been able to re-envision your entire look. I love your hair where it is now with a bit more growth, but overall, the color and cut are a brilliant transition. The white and silver gray colors you have on (and your ability to intuit those changes) are terrific!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Column, thank you -- what a sweet thing to say. It's true that a new hair colour (and cut) can occasion a style renewal. I've gone through this once before when I dyed my hair red in my 30s -- I learned how different colours flattered me. So I've got a bit of experience, which helps.

Skylurker, the booties probably won't be warm enough for all-the-time wear (although they're surprisingly warm!) -- but I can wear socks inside them, or I'll wear them for parties and when I want to feel a bit more pulled together in the house than I do in my slippers. I will stlll have the cozy slippers for more casual days.

The evil pull of Zara...in my experience (both Lisas) -- Zara shoes are either horrible, or surprisingly good -- and you never know until you try them. For me, the fit is always better than on most N. American made shoes because I'm a real EU 37. The leather is often stiff, or the soles, but sometimes that's overbalanced by other factors and they manage to feel comfortable anyway.

  • Scarlet replied 7 years ago

Great find! Makes me think of a super hero boot, in a good way!

  • replied 7 years ago

They are shivering, eating guacamole, in *unproportionate outfits* no less!
I don't think these sock booties could tick any more boxes, Suz.

I *love* those red Zara booties too.

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

OK, I think those booties are amazing.

And I got that metallic jacket Lisa posted while shopping with Angie and the ladies in Seattle. I am seriously craving cool weather so I can wear my new goodies. I have almost two months to wait though.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Janet, what is the jacket like? I am SOOOO tempted by it. Do you know that I have not had a bomber jacket yet? I feel like this could be my bomber entrée.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Smittie, I almost spit out my guacamole, I laughed so hard at your comment.

Aren't those red boots amazing? If only the heel were a bit shorter. I don't think I can do over 3 inches, honestly.

My alternative is these...but I like the dark red of the Zaras so much.

  • Marilyn replied 7 years ago

Very intrigued by the slipper booties.

Love the metallic loafer.  Can they be worn normally as well?......I see a pic with the backs up.  They are available at Rideau so will have to check them out.  When did Zara add check store availability?  Such a handy feature!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

I'm not sure about the loafers, Marilyn, since i haven't seen them in person yet (did not order -- still considering -- the heel is a bit low for me). I don't know when they added store availability either, since I have no store where I live! It's all online, all the time for this girl!

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

Suz, the jacket is great. Substantial weight, a slight cool olive tone to it, and it feels like a more expensive piece than it actually is, IMHO. It got rave reviews from all the fabbers in attendance, including Angie. Anna would have bought it if her size had been available. In fact, I'm going to check out the Zara near me when I'm in the area to see if they have her size there.

I'd say its TTS, by the way. A medium fit me, albeit with very little room to spare in the hip (story of my life).

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thank you, Janet! I might order it to give it a try. Fun!!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

I agree with Janet's review of the metallic bomber jacket. It looks and feels a lot more expensive than it is.

  • replied 7 years ago

Lis - do you mind posting the maryjane photo? The ones I'm seeing on the Z website are not leather.

  • shedev replied 7 years ago

I like the sock booties. I just gotta say that your hair is looking truly fab.

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

Zara makes some great jackets! That embroidered bomber I got in the spring turned out to be a total workhorse and gets lots of compliments -- it's another one of those items that looks like a more expensive piece than it is.

  • Lisa replied 7 years ago

What an awesome find!  And a great color on you too.  Yay!

  • Summer replied 7 years ago

Suz, I'm with you on liking my feet to be properly dressed at home.  I love the bootEES! and also the mules.  I seem to be drawn like a magnet to anything silver these days!

  • dakotacheryl replied 7 years ago

Love the "indoor" booties, and the fit at the ankle is perfect on you Suz.

Since winter get togethers among my friends are uber casual, I usually just tuck a pair of Birkenstocks to change into in my tote LOL.

  • Glory replied 7 years ago

I am really late to this slipper Bootee party but going to chime in and say I love when Suz said "I want to feel fab at home too". I love that statement and feel the same way. So I am off to buy slipper Bootees.

  • Elizabeth P replied 7 years ago

I totally missed this the first time round, but thanks to Suz's travel capsule post have just ordered the Zara tee... and am thinking I need to get the silver mules for my DD... she walks on the backs of her sneakers like this anyway, and drives me crazy.  It would be funny to present her with some you're SUPPOSED  to "wreck" :)
