A keep, a return

I love Boden knits. But trying on is difficult (no stores here) and there is a cost for delivery and returns. So it's tricky.

I took a chance at the sale price on two sweaters, one of which I am keeping and one I'm returning.

Keeping the Effie sparkle stripe sweater. Very subtle daytime sparkle and comfortable and easy to wear. They'd sold out of my regular size  in this colour, so I took a chance and sized down, because my experience with this type of ribbed sweater at Boden is that it is generous. That is the case here -- even a size down it's quite fluid on me.

I'm returning my other purchase. It's a lovely sweater but the reds are too rust for my needs (in the photo I thought they were a little more neutral dark red) and the knit gauge is too heavy for my needs -- it's a true pullover for layering under, not a top to wear on its own, really.

At the doctor's with my kid....

I bought the Effie sweater in camel and navy. Love it. I got an M and would be more comfortable with an L--it is somewhat fitted. Wore it to my birthday dinner and Thanksgiving. I'm sure you will love yours. Looks great with you outfit. Love the stripes and patterned scarf.

Nice! You look so fabulous in pic 3. That silver grey red combo is winner on you.

I really like the sweater you kept and it's too bad the color of the Olivia was not right because it's really nice, too. Your boots look great with this outfit.

Oooh, team wear! What a fab outfit. I love the stripes with the sleek puffer jacket and beautiful red print scarf to add more color. And the super new white booties! Too bad the other one didn't work out, but you scored with the sparkle stripes.

Love how you styled it with the wide leg trousers.  Looking b
    fabulous, Suz!

Fab outfit! The stripes suit you. A shame about the red sweater but there seems to be a lot of good reds out there now, so I hope you find another.

I just retired a striped sweater that is just too fitted for my tastes now (probably 8-9 years old), and a Boden sweater that after about 8 years is finally looking a little worse for the wear and I find myself not reaching for it anymore. Their stuff really holds up well. It tends to often be a little too preppy/classic for me, but an occasional piece really tempts me (there was a gorgeous velvet jacket recently that was sold out in my size, otherwise the temptation would have been great!).

My favorite cashmere sweater was (is?) from Boden.  I pulled it out a couple of weeks ago when it 1st got cold enough, and crying now, it has a hole….its now a Wfh sweater.  I’m debating ordering another one because so many of the comments are about how the quality is not the same ….
anyway, sorry didn’t mean to make this about me….
i love a stripe,,,and a little daytime sparkle and shine.   And this is just Fab.

Well you know I love this look, perfectly accessorized with the white Ecco’s and puffer jacket. Shame about the other sweater, but glad at least one of them worked out.

*waving at my puffer and navy pants twin*

    :)

Another KILLER signature Suz look! Pattern, colour, texture and shine! LOVE the pattern mixed geometrics with the floral! You do that with the best of them! Comes together so beautifully in #3. You make a short puffer look chic and elegant!

Very fun to see four top picks in one outfit. I'm smiling! ;)

Can I point out that we wear very different palettes. You wear cool-toned colours, and I wear much warmer tones. Yet this white oyster puffer works well on BOTH of us! See pic :)

I'm sticking to Italian brand "Save the Duck" for my puffers. My favourites! No down, an immaculate fit, brilliant design, very comfy, great colours, and fab quality.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Yes, Angie, this oyster colour works well across palettes! I was surprised by that! It looks gorgeous on you. I would say it is on the cooler or maybe just "dirtier" side, and not -- at first glance -- what either of us might have chosen. Yet it works! The face-framing lining is quite neutral. The oyster is almost like a platinum -- can skew warm or cool depending on the light.

It is lovely quality. I really like the cozy lining, the zip detail that goes all the way around the hood, and the two way zipper, with the stretchy bottom trim so it feels comfy when you are moving around.

The coat is not as lightweight as a down coat. But down doesn't do well in rain. Yesterday it rained off and on and I needed something that could cope with that and with wind and cold, and this fit the bill.

    Thanks, Dee.

Kkards, I have an older Boden cashmere with a small hole in the sleeve -- not noticeable -- I am going to mend it. Easy to do. I have the wool to do it. I have also read about the change in quality. Haven't ordered their cashmere in a long time but may do so again to compare, depending on sales.

Janet, yes, for the last few years I found a lot of the Boden styles / colours just not right for me, either, but I did pick up a few items. The quality does tend to be good if you can find something that works for your style.

    Thanks, Carla, Sharon, Bonnie, Brooklyn!

MsMaven, yes, the Effie is quite fitted, but I am ok with that as long as it is fluidly fitted, if that makes sense...glad you are enjoying your version!

The striped sweater (and entire outfit) look fantastic! Good that you were picky about the other sweater. Win, win!

  • Karie replied 4 months ago

Very nice! I have always loved a good striped sweater. It looks great with the wide legged trousers.

  • avicennia replied 4 months ago

I’m a sucker for stripes— glad you kept the sweater, it fits you to a T!

  • Carol replied 4 months ago

Love the patttern on pattern! Such an unexpected combo. And those pants are slick. I would have really liked to see you in the other sweater--it looked exciting. All around, a fun winter look.

  • Irina replied 4 months ago

Looks lovely, that jacket is fantastic! Would not mind one myself :)
Interesting how different we see and feel the fit of an item - on me I would call it a fitted top, not tight but fitted.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Irina, you are right -- it is fitted, but fluidly fitted, if that makes sense. As you said, "not tight but fitted." By which I mean it hugs the contours of the body, but there is extra fabric, it is not skin-tight. That might be less visible in the phot than IRL.

I guess to be truly "fluid" there would be less body -hugging (but still some indication of the body beneath) and boxy would be loose, barely touching the body or not touching at all in some places.  And oversized would be even looser than that, quite baggy in places. I mean, in my mind at least that is how I would classify! I could be wrong.

Carol, yes, I was sorely tempted by the other sweater. But I know I won't wear it. So back it goes.

Avicenna, Jaime, Karie -- thank you!

I’m loving the patterned scarf over the stripes.

  • RobinF replied 4 months ago

Great outfit! The longer pants are so leg lengthening! I am on the lookout for subtle sparkle too - fun for the season.

  • Angie replied 4 months ago

Suz, 100% on the colour analysis of our puffer! The cream lining is a warm, clear, and saturated clean cream, which makes it for me. The shine on the puffer brightens the dirtiness too, IYKWIM :)

  • lyn67 replied 4 months ago

Waving to my guitar strap twin (mine has the exact same pattern but in a  dark forrest green)! The ribbed and striped sweater will become a  workhorse- love the outfit in nr 3. YLF Suz!!:-)

Such a great look on you! I would want to chat if I saw you on the street.

    Hope your kid is okay!
