An Urban Prince Dines Out

This has been an unusually busy social week for me, so instead of purely "at home" wear, I have been making use of my OTG capsules.

Pics 1 and 2: Out for lunch with hubby on an unseasonably warm day. I could have done without that belt, I think. Oh well. But I LOVE my Stuart Weitzman booties. LOVE!!!

AT blouse
Winner's sweater vest
Halogen Seamed skirt
Microfishnets
SW booties
Vince Camuto colourblock pea coat. I mostly wear it with trousers but I also like it with a straight skirt.

Pic 3: Out for casual supper at a friend's house.

Theory turtleneck
AT leopard print pants
SW booties

ETA: these trousers are peculiar. They don't really photograph terribly well and I think they look better IRL. But they do sort of cling to my lower leg or sock in a weird way. They work a bit better without socks. But obviously that is not an option for me at this time of year.

Closeups show the necklace (I almost never wear necklaces but I felt like it called for something shiny) and the new bracelet that hubby gave me for Christmas.

Pic 6: Out for lunch with a friend.

Comments and suggestions for improvement welcome.

Suz, I am speechless. These are utter, utter perfection.

There is a reason black is so popular. I hope you are comfortable wearing it because these outfits are beyond all expectations.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

You look great, as always, Suz! I take it you like your booties a lot, lol. Me too :) I really like the houndstooth jacket and the necklace is fun!

  • replied 11 years ago

    My prince!

You look excellent in every outfit -- I love your looks, and that houndstooth jacket is so great.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Suz I am in love with your style! Love the dark, sleek outfits, you look like a chic woman! If I lived near you I would be in your closet all the time, hehe!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Well, thank you! Una, the sweater vest in one is actually a sort of blue-grey - it doesn't photograph all that well with my lousy light, I'm afraid. But the skirt is black. The coat is navy and black colour block.

The turtleneck in the next pic is navy.

The shirt I'm wearing in #6 is black but the pants are charcoal. So it's not really as much black as it might seem.

Amy - i do like the booties!!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Yes, I see these as "almost black" outfits - admirable!

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

You look spectacular and, of course, an Urban Prince must be social, and you do it so easily. First, I love your DH's gift; the bracelet is beautiful and the necklace is so pretty in the close-up. As for the belt, I think it works fine and brings in the lighter colors of your blouse. I'm happy you mentioned the colors in your post and to hear that both navy and black are being worn together. What do the heels look like on your SWs? Are they a stacked heel?

Suz, you are one of my style icons, as I've said before, and I love seeing your WIWs.

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 11 years ago

Suz - great outfits. Not only are we AT leopard jean twins, but we are also AT leopard blouse twins.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

Every outfit looks perfect - love it all!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Linda, that's so cool!! Shiny (Jennifer) also has this blouse, I believe, and so does Vix! I couldn't resist it. It wasn't inexpensive for me but I absolutely love the texture.

    Texstyle, thank you!

Vicki, thank you for your kind words. I think the belt would have worked better if it actually fit my waist. It's really a hip belt that I tried to adjust by wearing it a different way. Oh well. We do what we can with what we have.

The booties are these. You can see the heel better here. http://www.stuartweitzman.ca/eng/products/step/

The booties look great with the dress in #1/2! I'm seriously so jealous you found booties that fit so well around your ankle. I have thin ankles and I've just about given up finding anything I like that fits tight and looks sleek. I love the colors in the necklace and your black and white jacket.

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Wow, Suz, just wow. All of these are amazing! The fit is perfect. The proportions, perfect. All so streamlined and amazing. You look great in "almost" black!

There is really nothing to add to perfection!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

I'm loving your UP fashion. Each outfit is gorgeous on you.

  • Vildy replied 11 years ago

You not only look great in every one of these but you've even got that pop of
    Sartorialist blue. :)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thank you, everybody. Smiling about Sartorialist blue, Vildy. Now I need to look that up! Is that something he mentions on the blog?

Sara, I think one reason those booties work is that they have elastic inset. I was actually looking for a dressier bootie than these. But when I found them, I felt that they would work surprisingly well for what I had in mind, partly because of that neat ankle fit and partly because of the shape of the toe which is quite refined. I also think they end at exactly the right point on my particular ankle to be slightly less leg-shortening on me. That wouldn't be an issue for you, I don't think, but I"m always sensitive about it.

Suz, great outfits! I love the outfit in photo no. 5. The houndstooth jacket fits you really well.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I especially LOVE #1, #2 and #3. Those outfits are an 11 out of 10! Wow!! A very vibrant, beautiful and beaming, Suz :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Just gorgeous Suz! You are really settling into your style groove as an Urban Prince. I'm thinking those booties are one of your best purchases EVER!

  • replied 11 years ago

All are fabulous. I think 2 and 5 are my favourites.

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

I love these dark colours on you Suz! You really manage to create a look of length even in flat boots and that is not an easy feat. I'm also thinking I may need a pair of those boots for myself, they are stunning. You are gorgeous and you just know how to put together an outfit so well!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

I suspect only you would make me stare admiringly for longer at the coat and gloves shot than even the beauties that went beneath! I've loved seeing you in that fab coat before, but the gloves add so much more excitement.

Next favourite? Next outfit! That bracelet is *beautiful*, by the way. Strong and graceful, neither overtly feminine nor firmly masculine, neutral and understated but spectacular.

And finally, how could you go wrong with the bookending of black with tweed on one side and snakeskin on the other?! ::happy sigh::

You had a spectacular week of public appearances, your highness!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

SO pretty, Suz. You have such a gorgeous smile! You seem to radiate in whatever you wear when you are smiling. I love all of these--the sheath is divine and I love how you accessorize with the blue gloves. Great houndstooth jacket--love the Pettys in this!

  • replied 11 years ago

You look fantastic in every photo, Suz! I'm in love with those blue gloves!

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

Super outfits, my fellow Urban Prince! I love those booties on you!

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

Oh, just beautiful!! Sophisticated, modern, with lots and lots of character. These outfits are totally up my alley and I wish I have the occasions in which to wear the replicas. Until then, I'm pinning these.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Suz - I'm speechless. Wonderful outfits, you have really hit your stride:)

  • Vildy replied 11 years ago

He doesn't directly mention the shade of blue but he has often called attention to someone's blue socks, say. The blog has always had people dressed in all neutrals except for some accent of that exact shade of blue.

  • cobaltblue replied 11 years ago

Wow, so beautiful! Judicious use of necklace. I love #6 the most, but that may be only because I looked at it last. Masterful style, UP.

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

You look spectacular, Suz. And yes, princely. In breaking down the definition of "prince" (in terms of fashion), has anyone used the word "dapper"? Not "dandy." It'd be fun to really boil down the prince essence, but I do think I know it when I see it. Just wonderful.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Vildy, thank you! Very informative! Maybe I unknowingly got my inspiration there. Hmmm. Is that plagiarism?

CobaltSprite, Caro, Ornella, Jamie, Ali, Kelly, Manidipa, Tina, Diane, Shannon, Angie, Asignh -- thank you!

Dear Suz: Had to jump to page 2 to chime in since so many members have given thoughtful, specific feedback. I just wanted to say that you look like you're full present in everything you're wearing here -- like it's an extension of you, not an attempt to show you're aware of trends, or dressing to hide or highlight assets or flaws. Angie commented on Shannon's post today that she dressed "from the heart," and perhaps that's what I'm seeing here. Brava!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

What a kind and thoughtful comment, Beth Ann!! I think you are right - I am consulting my feelings more closely these days.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Fantastic! Rather than repeat the well deserved praise above (but I do second it), I will compliment your bracelet. I am a non-jewelry person but this looks perfect. Well done hubs!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

These are gorgeous outfits, Suz! I LOVE the blue gloves and the leopard print pants are making me drool! I agree, that black is such a flattering neutral for you and you have all these amazing statement pieces to make your outfits special. I just love your style!

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

I love each and everyone of these, Suz and especially seeing you wearing the necklace and the bracelet is such a treat. Those SW booties were made for your ankles. Oh and the coat and blue leather gloves, just perfect.

  • Nicole D replied 11 years ago

You look like Urban Royalty especially the teal gloves 0 they are sooo cool, You are inspirational as always.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Suz, what fantastic outfits and fantastic pieces! Yay for the booties, they are totally you. I bet you can't wait another 2 months or so when it becomes a bit warmer and we can all wear booties outside everyday.
Outfit coat+gloves+booties! OMG! Love love love. So good! Gloves are just that punch of colour needed here, their sleekness responding to the booties' smooth finish, marrying perfectly to the button-up, close to the body coat.

And that first outfit! With the free, self-determining belt! Again just what you needed on this very classic, well fitted ensemble. The pullover is an ingenious way to stay warm AND trendy.

Finally, the pant outfit. Love it so much! This might be my favourite. It's all at once soigné yet with just enough loose that it doesn't look constraint, just that little bit of movement for grace and style. Pendant is absolutely perfect, it grounds it all, again, an expression of simplicity in its most effective form. Booties are great here too!!! A different look than with the skirt, they enhance the pants by contrasting their print. Bravo!
(And the bracelet are beautiful with it too).

About the clingon trousers: I wonder is there isn't just a bit too much fabric at the bottom, making them bend like this. Then again, it might be just that little extra fabric that makes them swish when in movement, producing an elegant effect. But they do look good.
