Denim pencil skirt and toile sweatshirt

So, the quilted denim pencil skirt is more casual than Angie's examples...but the toile-patterned sweatshirt (which is actually part of my loungewear capsule) is, arguably, "dressier" than a slogan sweatshirt. Add a plaid scarf for warmth and pattern mix, merino tights for warms, tall flat boots, and here's my version. It was fun to wear this for a change up. The skirt did cling to the tights some, but not to the point of discomfort, and I was toasty warm for teaching and walking to class.

Please excuse bloodshot exhausted eyes. I've got an allergy to something.

    Love it!

The pattern mixing of the scarf and sweatshirt is awesome.

I like it! Especially the cute sweater with the print, the subtle pattern of the skirt is good too.
    Nice!

Looks great Suz! That skirt and sweatshirt were both such good buys for you.

You look completely amazing. Love this whole outfit.

This is wonderful! I like that the scarf gives you a pop of red/warmth. And the quilting on the skirt is so cool. Fwiw, I often get phantom allergy symptoms this time of year -- my doc thinks it could be the lack of ventilation in the winter. Houses just accumulate dust and dander 'til we air them out in the spring.

What a lovely outfit, cosy ,casual but some how dressy at the same time.

Great look!  I've been mulling how to put this ensemble into practice and this gives me an idea.  I have a denim pencil type skirt that would work well with tights.  Now I just need to find a sweatshirt-like top.

Really cute casual version of the formula.

You rock this look! Love the pattern mix!

Cute and easy. What more can you ask for a cold (presumably) day?  Sorry you're feeling allergic - I'm living on Advil Cold these days  myself.

You look wonderfully warm and cozy in this outfit. Great winter look.

  • Joyce B replied 6 years ago

That is such a fab iteration of pencil skirt with sweatshirt. You are inspiring me to come up with a similar outfit.
It’s great that the boots worked for you. I had to return mine because they were tight on my legs.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

Fabulous. What a great way to change up your jeans routine, sweet Suz. I’m loving your curves in that skirt. Woohoo Relaxed Winter Bombshell. You nailed it.

Hope your allergies are sorted asap. Hair looking sublime. Much love to you. Xo

Gorgeous look.  Perfect for a winter day.

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

Thank you all so much for your kind words. This turned out a lot better than I expected. It also rescued an orphan! The skirt is rarely worn, maybe because it makes me feel too "bombshell." But the sweatshirt helps a lot. I think a long cardigan would also work. And since it turned out better with tights than I expected, maybe I can wear it more regularly now. Thanks for the inspiration, Angie!

That's a great outfit. I've never seen a quilted denim skirt before. I think that's just about the best denim skirt I've ever seen.

  • Lynn replied 6 years ago

You nailed this. If I wore skirt outfits I would be a copycat!

  • Windchime replied 6 years ago

Love! I'm glad you found a way to style this skirt because it looks wonderful on you. The scarf is a perfect pattern mix with the sweatshirt. And your boots are a fab finishing touch.

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

I like how you dressed up the jeans skirt with a fancy sweatshirt - or is that an oxymoron? Your hair is awesome!

  • replied 6 years ago

I really like these proportions and it seems like a warm-enough outfit for most winter days where you’re not standing outside for a long time.

The boots look like a great fit and look great with the skirt.

Fantastic look! I love the pattern mixing and the skirt looks like it was made for you!

  • Dianna replied 6 years ago

Loved it!  the pattern mixing is perfection.  And that scarf!

  • Inge replied 6 years ago

This is such a wonderfully relaxed outfit. I love that toile sweatshirt, and the plaid scarf makes it extra fun.
I do hope those allergies clear up asap!!

Great outfit, Suz, loving how you paired denim skirt with a dressier sweatshirt and the colorful scarf, YLF! I often wear denim skirts but I don't have blues. I have them in black(coated) and greys(dark and light,  oh an the white one in summer is a workhorse of course) it makes sense I think, because my neutrals are black, greys&white.

  • Staysfit replied 6 years ago

Nice! I forgot about the beautiful quilted pencil skirt! Mine is gone, but I really loved it in theory if not in practice. It had so much potential, but it was too short for comfort at work. DD wears it better with her long twenty something legs! I will show her your picture for inspiration! :-)

  • Tanya replied 6 years ago

You totally nailed the look, Suz!  The skirt is very flattering on you and you should wear it more often.  I love how it pairs with that fancy sweatshirt.

  • RobinF replied 6 years ago

This looks great! Love that skirt, being denim it would go with a lot but looks a little dressier than jeans.

  • texstyle replied 6 years ago

I think a long cardi would be a great option for another outfit with that skirt.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 6 years ago

    Suz, I really love this!

  • Christina F. replied 6 years ago

This is a great look that's both polished and somewhat relaxed. That's a sweet spot I'm trying to hit more, and this is definitely inspiring.

  • karen13 replied 6 years ago

This is gorgeous. The patterns colors and shapes all work so well. It is so new very to see more of you on YLF.

  • Chris987 replied 6 years ago

OMG, I am swooning! This is such a gorgeous outfit, one of your best ever!

"..well, I just pulled this sweatshirt out of my loungewear capsule, tossed it over a denim skirt, and pulled this scarf out of my warm-winter-accessories basket that lives near my front door....and tossed on my plain old riding boots"....HAH!

The pattern mixing is PERFECT. You should add a module on that subject to the class(es) you teach!
