Formula One (my way)

I loved outfit #1 from today's blog post. I would love to own that dramatic coat! Alas, I don't. But I do have a bunch of options for versions of the outfit and I plan to try them out over the next week. Here's my first attempt. My 23 year old kid gave it the thumbs up!

I have the slouchy red pants. I don't own a lilac pullover but I do own a sort of lilac-pinkish cardigan. Wearing that over a boldly striped white and blue shirt. I did try with the shirt untucked to come closer to the original but the proportions felt off on me. So I tucked again. I might experiment some more another day. Added a red and blue abstract patterned scarf. White boots, lilac coat, red hat, red bag with a guitar strap that includes pink/ lavender tones.

Next version will likely have more blue going on. Stay tuned!

Oh, fun! Yes that outfit formula does seem very Suz. This is a great color scheme for you. Well done on your first iteration -- and I'm curious to see others.

I'm planning a version of the final outfit to wear tomorrow...

Thumbs up from me too !

Red and lilac make for a scrumptious colour combo,  Fun, crisp and very Suz.

  • ChristelJ replied 3 months ago

Absolutely terrific! Not just the colors, but the proportions and values and textures all combine to make a smashing outfit.

  • Indigoprint replied 3 months ago

Yes! I love outfit#1 from today's blog too.
I think you nailed it. Your coat is Fab.
So fun that you could shop your closet.

KILLER Fabulous, Suz! Works beautifully. Well done!

(And especially energizing on this gloomy, cold and grey PNW day!)

Lilac and red are delicious together!!! LOVE that combination on you. I can see Inge sport a similar look!

Love how the scarf brings it all together, adds the chic, and of course - warmth! It's a dead right match with the pants.......(how did you live before white boots and red pants!!! ;) )

    Forgot to add:

Very UN-Blue for Queen Blue ;)

  • Helena replied 3 months ago

Fun and lively ... these colours combine so beautifully to be energetic but not a bit chaotic. A master class!

Lol I read the name of the post and thought wow is Suz going to the race track?  Then I clicked in a got it….and it’s fab.  I especially like the way the red accessories in #3  just  pull the whole thing together and make the outfit pop.  And the white boots, with all the color going on ‘up top’ are very grounding.

  • Suz replied 3 months ago

Kkards, that's a great observation about the boots being grounding. I used to think only black (or dark) footwear could be grounding but I now think white works just as well, maybe better for the light-haired amongst us or those who wear a fair bit of white or cream. It's interesting! Also, these boots are surprisingly practical because waterproof and easy on /off.

    Thanks, Helena!

Angie, I know, right? Not much blue (for me). But over the next few days I will try different versions, some with more blue. I'm also going to aim to get a bit more of the feel of that dramatic pattern of the coat in the example. I'm going to try my version of outfit 4, too, of course, and I have a few ideas for that one. It ties in well with SarahDB's no repeat challenge, so why not? Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks, Indigoprint. I love this coat so much -- I will have it forever.

Christel, Dee, Gail, Sarah -- thanks!

Fabulous! I love your more neutral combinations and now your are giving us a whole new category to admire.

  • Roberta replied 3 months ago

Lavender and red just sing together in this combination, you clever soul! The stripe adds a crisp element and the white boots are the linchpin.

  • slim cat replied 3 months ago

So beautiful! Love your fun, colorful styling ( the lilac coat is perfect for lightning up grey winter season )!

  • Bijou replied 3 months ago

I'm amazed at how little blue you are wearing, this is a fabulous rendition. I always love seeing your lilac winter coat, it seems to work with everything in your wardrobe.

  • Inge replied 3 months ago

Ooooh!!! Perfect from head to toe!! Like you, I was smitten with the lilac, red, white (and blue) colour combo in the first look on Friday's post, and this is a brilliant version of it, Suz!

(And yes, what an amazing coat, right!-)

  • Olive Green replied 3 months ago

Very pretty colour combinations. I got hung up on the LED hat and just ordered it. What a great idea.

  • replied 3 months ago

Great color combo- love it with the coat!

  • Star replied 3 months ago

This colour combination is so good on you Suz!

  • Suz replied 3 months ago

Thanks, all -- and Inge, YES! -- such a wonderful coat. I'll bet you get compliments on it every time you wear! It's magical because it is such a feminine colour but an androgynous shape and very durable.

Olive Green, that is so cool! I bought the hat on the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver. They come in many colours but of course I had to have bright red. It's quite warm so I don't know if it will work for your climate. And, honestly, when you wear it as designed, it's odd looking (I was wearing it backwards in the photo). But I live in a suburban area of dark and very narrow streets without sidewalks in places and I like to walk at night or what you might call night. (It gets dark very early here in winter -- at around 4:30, so "night" is a bit of a joke.) Anyway, I've had too many close calls to risk invisibility so I walk wearing this hat and the lovely vest, below, LOL. Or my bright white coat with reflectors, depending on temps.

Bijou, I laughed out loud at the blue comment! I know, right? Well, those are blue stripes in my shirt, I promise! :) And the scarf has blue blotches on it.

  • Olive Green replied 3 months ago

Thank you for the inspo on the hat, it’s brilliant for dusk and nighttime walking. I never remember the flashlight till I hear the rustling in the bushes…

  • Ket replied 3 months ago

I adore lilacs, orchids, and purples worn with reds! SO this is killer to me. But you are extra gorgeous in it! I especially love your lilac coat. It's so terrific on you! A1 <3

  • Jaime replied 3 months ago

Absolutely smashing! I am inspired - I will wear my lilac coat today for sure!

  • Kyle replied 3 months ago

Oh my goodness. What a yummy color combo. You make me want to experiment with color—and that’s saying something!

  • Inge replied 3 months ago

Ah, I don't own the Esprit coat but have been looking at it admiringly for quite a while :-)

  • Suz replied 3 months ago

Oh -- I thought you owned the J. Crew coat because it's in your Wardrobe! You are QUEEN LAVENDER!!!!!

  • Sal replied 3 months ago

Gorgeous Suz - love the pattern, texture and accessorising!

  • Inge replied 3 months ago

Oh sorry, Suz! I thought you were referring to the patterned Esprit coat in Angie's blog post (I clearly have that one on my mind;-) I do own the lavender J.Crew coat!-) We are lavender coat twins!
