My name is Suz...and I buy SHOES!

I am not much for end of season sales. It's true -- back when I was building a wardrobe, I did pick up a few good things at J. Crew's end of season sales. I suppose when you need everything, you can always find something. But once your basic needs are met, not so much. A mid-season knit refresher for our LOOOONG winters in January, a new dress or skirt in August for the last month or two of heat -- those I can manage. But that's about it.

Except, apparently, when it comes to footwear. Because look what I brought home in the last couple of weeks!

In my defence:

1. Is a replacement for dressy shoes that did not stay on my feet. (One in-one-out.)

2. Is a HEWI -- a simple, classic cognac sandal.

3. Is also a replacement for a similar almond-toed flat that wore out.

4. Is a low wedge Franco Sarto of infinite comfort (waving to CocoLion) in a practical, bookending, and nude-for-me taupe. A back up and next year's replacement for my Sofft gladiators, which -- true to form -- I wore into the ground after two months of heavy, heavy wear.

Am I absolved?

Some great purchases. Looks like you lucked out with year end sales. I see some work horses there.

  • Elly replied 8 years ago

Good for you, Suz--- I'm glad you are finding shoes that work for you, since your feet aren't the easiest to fit. It isn't like you have some extreme shoe wardrobe--- two pair worn out and a replacement for an uncomfortable pair seems par for the course! Plus, if the cognac end up being long-term comfy, they will help take the load off your glads next summer!

I find myself buying a similar # of shoes almost every season, which eats the budget but is the cost of wearing the types of shoes I like and walking and standing as much as I do--- go comfort!

A great shoe sale does not always mean great shoes on sale. But it looks like you got some great shoes that already have slots in your rotation. Well played!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Good for you, Suz. I'm thrilled that you're at a point in your life where you spoil YOU. You have my blessing - FWIW! - to purchase to your heart's content.

These are wonderful shoes, and I especially love that you added cognac sandals into the mix. Fresh. ENJOY.

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

I really like those cognac sandals. These all seem like great fits for your wardrobe!

  • deb replied 8 years ago

Aren't shoes an accessory?? Accessories do not count.

  • Isabel replied 8 years ago

Hi Suze, well you gotta wear something on your feet. Lovely are they ! I may have to have the black pumps !!!!

  • Jeweled replied 8 years ago

Absolved!  :)  Great shoes, and you have a good eye for putting together outfits where every element is your style.  I always enjoy seeing  how you put outfits together.

Also, I just have to say that I love your fun title for this post - and that your "My Name is Suz and I Buy Shoes" could be sung in a rap-song beat.  LOL  :)

  • replied 8 years ago

You never needed to be absolved :)  I'm right with you on end of season sales.  No thank you. Except for shoes - that's when I can often find something I didn't  notice earlier in the year and wish I had.

    Great scores, all!

  • Ankita replied 8 years ago

I'm with deb on this one... shoes ARE an accessory and those don't count... Yay for new purchases!

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Shoes don't count as clothes, isn't it:-). Love your new goodies, I see you stick to tan for summer footwear (cognac is also a shade of tan isn't it:-))which is a good strategy for us blondes. Love when I can replace and UPGRADE my oldies with more  comfortable ones. Good finds, you have my blessings, too:-)).

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

Absolutely! You look stunning in your new shoes :)

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

Super summer shoe capsule!  Pah!  Those are essentials, so they don't count.

  • Gigi replied 8 years ago

Congratulations on finding your HEWI! They look great on you.

I can't do anything but forgive, seeing as this past summer I added about eight pairs of shoes to my closet. Eek!

  • replied 8 years ago

I don't need anything from the sales either...except...hello cognac sandal beauties, you're looking so good on Suz, maybe me too?

    Great choices, all completely justifiable.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

I love the Okalas SO MUCH! I bought a pair but unfortunately couldn't walk in them. I guess I buy shoes too. I even bought three pairs of the Camper t strap until I finally got the right size. It's just that most of the shoes I buy get returned.

  • Brooklyn replied 8 years ago

I live in a glass house so I won't be throwing any stones. The weather is warming up here and I am still stalking boots in end of season sales. :) These look like great finds. I especially like nos 2 and 4.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

They all seem well thought out purchases and you will be well set up for next summer.

If I had a dressier lifestyle I would jump on the Okala's too...they are so elegant.  And summer workhorse sandals - how can you go wrong, especially since I know you had a battle this summer.

  • carter replied 8 years ago

Geez. I need to stop opening your posts. Now I want the cognac sandals and the black flats. The other day I wanted the chambray dress, etc, etc, etc. Needless to say, I think these are so fab!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

I knew I could come here for expert enabling!  :)

Also, two pair were 70% off and two pair were 50% off...so I got four for less than the price of two. How is that for girl math?

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

You are absolved of all guilt in buying these shoes :)  I need to post my own out-of-control shoe buying this week.  Mine are mostly booties (4 pair plus some moccasins) that I am trying to justify by a scheduled 2 night stay at a Colorado ranch next month, plus they all seem comfortable.  And mine were at some discount but not nearly like yours.  You need to keep them all.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Absolved? The title of this thread alone was pure delight. LOVE your new shoes and as for being absolved, far be it from me to judge!

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

You've picked out some real winners. I have the Okalas in black and they are one of my favorite shoes.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Hahaha. You're just too cute Suz! However, buying 4 pairs of versatile and much-needed shoes in a season does not an addict make :D

To be honest, all 4 look very different and very practical purchases. Love your new Okalas. Enjoy your shuz Suz!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

But of course! "You snooze, you lose," Suz. Gotta grab those shoes when you find them.

  • replied 8 years ago

No defense necessary.  Updating shoes is important.  I agree with Firecracker.  I have to buy shoes when I can find them.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 8 years ago

I see no problem with buying items that you know are going to be needed in advance.  When you see something that works, you snap it up before they are all gone.   Otherwise some crazy lady will see them posted and spend the next half hour searching through gladiator sandals and rationalize it because there is a winter vacation in less than 120 days.  :)

The last pair reminds me a lot of the black SE sandals that I wore quite a bit this year but with a lower wedge heel.  I am quite tempted to get them in one of the colors but I am trying to only buy items on my list of needs.  *sigh*

  • Belladogga replied 8 years ago

Those are some great finds.  I noticed and liked the cognac sandals in an earlier post of yours.  Can't remember how you describe your feet but do you think the Seychelles would work for low volume feet?

  • Janet replied 8 years ago

I have to take exception to a couple of things. You do not need absolution! These are replacements and HEWIs, and good deals at that. They all look perfectly in tune with your wardrobe and needs. Nothing wrong with that.

And for those who are saying shoes are accessories and don't count -- I can't agree with that, either. Shoes aren't accessories, they're necessities! Can't go around barefoot... :-D

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Ha, Janet, that's absolutely right. No barefooting it here. All 100% necessary!!  There, now I feel all better. Thank you!  ;)

Belladogga, my feet are probably medium volume. On the narrow side of medium width with a narrow heel that doesn't have a "bump" on the back (so pumps will not stay on). I have fairly high instep and arches. The Seychelles get awful reviews but I found them extremely comfortable from the second I put them on. They are quite adjustable in the back, but if you have low arches or very narrow feet the top strap might be too loose. And if you have the opposite type of foot it might be too tight.

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

You are fully absolved of the offense of not buying beautiful, practical footwear at incredible sale prices. Well, there's a bit of penance yet...wear and enjoy! :)

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

You live in sandals in summer - so 2 new pairs is very modest IMO.
The other two were replacements so they do not count :-)

See, now you have room to shop more for shoes :-)

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

    Applause!!! All fab purchases :) :) :)

  • krishnidoux replied 8 years ago

Great choice Suz! THese will be very useful, as their nude tone elongates the leg, opening up all kinds of hem options.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

I hope to see some of these soon! Life is too short - buy the shoes!
