PMWIW: Angie Ensemble

I am starting to feel better! Still not myself, and I'm not sure I have the energy to post a photo "in the wild." So I decided to do the Angie Ensemble challenge today instead.

Firmly on "Team Wear," I have on the navy BR tunic/ dress that I posted yesterday. It's great and will work perfectly for my at-home capsule. In full disclosure, if I make it out for a walk later on today, I am likely to change into something much more structured like jeans.

I'm wearing my navy blouson tunic/dress with the long grey BR cardigan, a cognac belt, my ink Zara booties, navy tights, and a taupe/grey/black leopard print scarf from Old Navy. Plus my black specs. Black is more of an "accent colour" in my wardrobe than a neutral. I aim to be judicious with it. ;)

I have sent back the red dress, the red Sloan pants, one of the plaid shirts (all in Finds), and some GAP items, including the mushroom oversized sweater that Una bought. I am also sadly returning the grey ruched skirt to BR because I think it is too short -- shorter than the dresses by far -- see photo 2!.

I kept this dress and an Angie-recommended blue gingham shirt. And I am feeling very responsible and in control. ;)

Gorgeous! I love the long sweater over the dress. You look cozy and stylish! Glad to hear you are on the mend!

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 9 years ago

I think you made the right choices on what to keep and what to return.  Great look in #1!

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Great choices, Suz. I'm still eyeing that dress. I have a couple of upcoming things I'd love to have a new easy dress for. I'd love that with black tights and the Zara booties. Did you get an extra small? I'm thinking small for me.

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Lovely outfit, perfect for recuperating!  And I am glad you are feeling better.

I haven't been around much lately, so I might have missed it, but curious to hear why the Sloan pants and bold plaid shirt went back ( as I am eying both myself).

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

The dress and long cardigan are lovely paired together.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous, Suz! Glad you're slowly feeling better. Take it easy.

Wow - great control by sending so much stuff back. I'm glad the blue check shirt worked for you. Curious about the red one myself....

I am late to the party but am in love with your Zara ink booties. Always love them when you wear them.

I hop you feel better soon! Love your outfit today.

I went back to see your last posts on these, and I think you have made the right choices(some of those are indeed to short to my eyes)!   I see your mind is in control, clear and strong:-), hope the body is recovering quickly, too! Love the navy dress dembombshelled here with the grey BF cardi-and will love to see the blue gingham shirt, asap. Get well, Suz!

Very cute and glad you're on the mend. Sounds like you've made some wise decisions with items.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, all! I will be so glad when this sickness is over!!

So, in the meantime... a report for those who asked.

Tanya, the Sloan pants just didn't thrill me. They looked fine...but I wasn't sure about the fit; I had ordered up (had to as that was all that was left) and I felt I was betwixt and between sizes, if you know what I mean. I just didn't like the way they sat on me. Plus, I have a strange hesitation about wearing coloured pants. I love to wear patterned pants, and equally love coloured skirts, but coloured pants are somehow harder for me.

The plaid of the shirt was just slightly too large scaled for me, and too high contrast. It would have been fine purely as a layering piece but at that price I wanted more versatility.

Vivian, the dress is navy. It also comes in a pale silvery grey and in a grey stripe that is a direct copy of a James Perse dress I saw on the Nordstrom's website last night. I ordered XS. I think S would be good on you for sure. It will give you a bit more length, too. I considered sizing up, but for me, the neckline would get too sloppy if I did that.

Great decisions, great outfit and GREAT that you're feeling better!

  • Debora replied 9 years ago

Love this so much! A long, current cardigan is on my shopping list, and I love how you styled the dress with one. Thanks for the inspiration. Glad you are feeling better. Don't overdo!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Suz, you definitely get an award for the best dressed YLF member while being seriously ill. I am in awe for sure! This dress is going to be a workhorse for you and I love how you style it here.
Good call on returning what did not work for you and keeping only real winners (although I would like to see a report WHAT departed your closet to make room for new goodies :-) )
I hope the feeling better trend will continue from now on and you are on your feet in no time!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Thank you, Sveta!

Departing from my closet: My old jersey black sleeveless dress. It was far, far past its prime and I think I only wore it once last year as a result. Three years ago it was a winter staple of my at-home (and out of the house) wardrobe.

I have not decided if any shirts will depart. My two BR fitted shirts are on probation and I might let both of them go. If I do not let anything go, it is okay. A lot of my shirts are spring/ summer/ fall weight for me -- not as easy to wear in winter. So I have space in the closet for this. :)

I'm glad that you are on the mend.  You look great, and I am learning much from reading your posts (along with all the other forum members).

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

I'm glad you're starting to feel a little better. You look so polished & put together in this outfit that feels like pajamas to wear. How cool is that?

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Great outfit. Obviously you are going to look better working at home than I do at work! The skirt doesn't look any shorter than the dress to me in these pics, but I will take your word for it!

  • Alexandra replied 9 years ago

Fabulous outfit! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.
PS: Did I miss your gamine post or is that still to come?

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Look #1 is fabulous I like the use of texture and visual weight here.  The subtle shine in the shoes offset by the earthy belt and nubby sweater and scarf.  You could walk in this, perhaps switching out the shoes.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

I'm glad you're starting to feel better Suz - my goodness, you've had a long and rough road.

I love the coziness of your first outfit - the layering is lovely with the longer cardi over the dress and the complimentary colors of blue and grey. I also really like the unexpected cognac belt and the way you're wearing it.

And good for you for returning things that aren't right :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Cute and cozy look !  And I think you're right - that dress will be super versatile for you.  I'm wearing a grey melange knit dress today myself :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Fantastic outfit, Suz! I love the long cardigan over the dress. What a fun, current look. And it's so good to hear you are feeling at least a little better! May the trend continue.
I have a question, though, and perhaps you've covered it on another post. . . . after you've said you don't wear dresses at home because tights and your kitties do not mix well, what changed? (If there are indestructible tights available, do tell! I don't have cats, but I do manage to ruin my share of tights at work.)

  • replied 9 years ago

So glad to hear that you are starting to feel a little better Suz. Your at home outfit looks wonderfully stylish, but also incredibly comfy. Slam dunk as Angie would say.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

I echo every word Sveta wrote!!
You are a trooper for posting WIWs and keeping us updated about your purchases and returns while being so ill, Suz. thank you!
I'm relieve to hear you are feeling a little better today (and that you don't have pneumonia), but please do take it very easy and continue to rest as much as possible!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, lovely ladies. You are balm for the soul....I am definitely on the mend. I have improved as the day has gone on. Almost no coughing!!! :)

Sharan, you caught me out. It is still true I have the tights problem with my kitty.

But...what I realized is that he strangely isn't as destructive to my opaque tights.

When I am bare-legged or in nude hose or micro-fishnets, or any kind of thin, delicate, fancy hose, he has a habit of stretching up and hooking his little claws into them. Instant hose ruination!!!

Weirdly, he doesn't do it when I am wearing pants!  (Or maybe I just don't notice it as much.)

And he seems to regard dark tights as pants substitutes. Which sounds really weird. But -- it's a fact that I have had these Hue tights for several years and they only have one little catch in them (not a run, and it's not in a visible place). Admittedly, I don't wear them a ton, but I have been wearing them SOME. And he hasn't ruined them.

So I decided to take a risk with tunics/ dresses that would look okay with heavier weight opaques. Much as I would love to "lighten up" with nude hose, I also need the thicker tights for winter warmth. So this is all an experiment to see how it feels over the longer term.

    ;)

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

Good choice to return and keep what you did. I really like the navy dress and I love the way you have styled it here! That long cardigan is just delicious with it.

  • E replied 9 years ago

Yay for your new dress! What a perfect at-home look. :) I was surprised to see so many people on the other thread don't consider tights comfortable; I've always found mine to be very comfy as long as I don't twist them when putting them on! Whereas jeans and I have a trickier relationship...funny how comfort means different things to different people.

  • Aziraphale replied 9 years ago

Both outfits are great! No short legs here. :-) I especially like your colour choices -- right up my alley.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love the first outfit! Agree with your decision on the skirt - it would drive you crazy I think. Glad you are feeling better, to say nothing of very responsible and in control :-)!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Ha! Cats have some strange ways of looking at things. Tights = pants? Okay, whatever keeps the tights intact. :)

  • Eliza replied 9 years ago

Love this look. Like the long cardigan open with the belt revealed. Gorgeous and so you.

Your posting perseverance is remarkable. Glad you are starting to turn the corner, but so sorry it has taken so long. Looking great!

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

So glad you are starting to feel better! The worst is over I guess! :)

Beautiful rendition of Angie's ensemble. Nailed it! You know, I always try to create this ensemble but it never works well for some reason. The main reason being, I don't own anything grey! Except for my oxfords. I would have to work around that and see what I could come up with.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

I LOVE the first outfit. Very chic, K-word worthy for sure.

Glad you're keeping a few other pieces too - AND feeling a bit better.

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Glad you're feeling better, Suz. I really like your first outfit and it looks stylish, cozy and comfortable.

I like your willpower in returning what doesn't quit work and only keeping that which does. In chatting with Marley about "split wear" I'm curious about your thought process behind the gingham shirt from BR. You have the gingham J. Crew shirt and while it is a tuxedo shirt, and the plaid size is smaller, do you wear these two shirts in different ways or is it so that you'll have one gingham ready to go? I hope I've made sense here. I'm just getting over a cold, too.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Vicki, of course you made sense! And thank you for checking in while you are sick!

The ginghams are different styles and different fabrications. The blue checked BR shirt is a light cotton flannel, so it feels softer and warmer than the very crisp cotton of the J. Crew. In my climate, this can make a difference. I tend not to reach for my very crisp shirts in our cold weather when I want something warmer and cozier. If I lived in your climate, I don't think I would want to be wearing flannel very often.

Angie, thank you. I went out for an appointment this morning and think I overdid it a bit. I need to go slow and steady for a while.

Eliza, I am impressed at your own efforts to be online, considering that you are facing health challenges of your own right now!

    And Neel, you're a sweetie.
