Really Going Wild: Camper Flats

In one sense, this is the most obvious purchase in the world for me. My first fashion memory is a pair of red Mary Janes! (I called them my "tapping" shoes at age 3.) I have always loved footwear, and always especially loved red footwear, and I have not owned a pair of red shoes in ages.

In another sense, it is a wild card for me. Flats are risky for my plantar fasciitis and often tire my arches.

My review: these Camper Mary Janes are a really fun shoe. Unlined, extremely soft leather, but with rubbery bottoms and a very slight heel also in rubbery stuff that (I hope!) will provide enough protection from hard pavement. I have worn them around the house -- they accommodate my wider forefoot and narrow heel very well and the strap keeps them in place. They are not a perfect match for my Pom Pom bag, but close enough.

I would recommend these to anyone in the market (they come in off-white and black also). And I'm delighted to have found a new brand that may work decently for my increasingly fussy feet!

Questions and comments welcome.

These look so cute on you Suz!  Punchy.

They are adorable with your new skirt! I wore my red Campers all over New York City for thousands of steps and was really happy with them.

  • Dee replied 1 week ago

Holy Smokes, they are perfect for your wardrobe, hopefully you’ll enjoy them for many years.

Super cute! I love a rubber sole--they seem to wear well and I like the juxtaposition of the more classic Mary Jane style with the casual, sporty sole.

    Great shoes!
I consider a similar pair in black from Campers as my travel shoes and hope it fits me as well as it does you.

Gosh those are really fun shoes!Drat,l think l am going to have to go and look them over.

Those are adorable. The red is great for your wardrobe, and they look so good with the new skirt. I hope they prove just as comfy in the long run, too. I've been a little leery of Camper because they don't seem to have much arch support. You and I have different requirements for our fussy feet.

  • phoebe replied 1 week ago

Wow, cute! I like the higher vamp too!

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Thanks, all.  Sharan, I worry they don't have enough arch support, too, but the only way to find out for sure is to try them. I tend to like more than they have, for sure, especially in flats. But I think (maybe) the rubbery sole and the flexibility of the shoe overall may make up for that. I will soon find out! And I'll report back.

I think it's also possible that I could put a Superfeet thin insole in there, which I do in my Ecco sneakers to make them wearable over longer periods. Going to try it out and see.

Great colour Suz and a good match for your bag, yay. I hope they are comfy! I love my cute little red crochet flats and wore them again yesterday. Alas, it is getting too cold here to wear flats with no socks :(

Super fun! Camper makes some great shoes. Love the bright red color on you!

A wonderful find - red shoes work with everything. I love the pattern mixing of blue leopard with the new tartan skirt - stunning!

I have a pair of marigold Camper flats on the way. Not Mary Jane’s but hopefully as cute as these. The red is charming as styled with the new skirt.

    STINKING CUTE!

    KILLER, and perfectly styled!

    Go Team Red!

Love! We are on the same red mary jane flats wavelength! *waving*

    :)

Like Dorothy and her red shoes, they look charming on you.

  • RobinF replied 1 week ago

Ooh love these! I also like a bit of a heel, more comfortable for me. Hope they work for you!

  • ChristelJ replied 1 week ago

I hope they work; they are really special and love how playful and joyous they are.

  • kellygirl replied 1 week ago

Wow, what a great shoe for you! They pair so well with the blue--providing an infusion of playfulness. Love them on you and hope that they prove supportive enough. They're just too good not to wear with everything!

I was planning to check out these and a pair of red COS maryjanes at the mall tomorrow. They look super cute on you.

I have kept going with this challenge and yesterday wore whites, today brownish green.  I have not had repeats but get bored with the neutrals. Pictures have been hard after DH retired and is home.  I have no time.

The above was posted in the wrong place.

I like your Camper flats .  The color keeps them from looking
useful.  Not like old lady shoes.

  • Mirjana replied 1 week ago

Wow, gorgeous shoes, so trendy this spring and summer. Love them so much. Enjoy wearing.

  • Runcarla replied 1 week ago

These are perfect on so many levels.

  • lyn67 replied 1 week ago

Oh, love these on You-these ballet mary janes feel so trendy-have such clean lines and a gorgeous color-and good match to the cross body bag! I've just finished my belated comment on Angie's yesterday post mentioning that I rarely love my shoes or bags to top from an outfit, but I so love it on others-for ex here on You!

  • quietloud replied 1 week ago

I love these on you, Suz, they are super cute! I might have to check out the ones in black...I've been sleeping on this brand, but I've always associated them with quality and comfort, so thanks for reminding me! It seems like we have a similar foot shape as well.

    I smell a mystery !!

  • BlueJay replied 1 week ago

Really great shoes, Suz! They really do go well with your bag. I hope they work for you. My arches get tired as well, which is why I don't wear Converse (and I can't add insoles because the Cons insoles are glued in). I know a colleague's daughter (who is in her 20s) loves Camper loafers. They have such fun colours! You look so lovely in all of your outfits.

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Thanks, Blue Jay -- we will see how I do with them. Flats are usually a no (without extra insoles) but I did so, so well with the Cole Haan Original Grand knit oxfords last year that I thought it was worth the try.

Oddly, when I bought a different pair of Cole Haans -- the Zero Grand, which are theoretically supposed to be even more comfortable -- I found I did need to put a Superfeet insole into those! Luckily the self-insole was removable, so I did. But they are still not as comfy for me as the Original Grands.

Meanwhile, I put Superfeet insoles into my Ecco sneakers to make them wearable. And like you, I cannot cannot cannot wear Cons or any kind of completely flat sandal or shoe.

Usually, a 3/4" lift is good enough, but between the PF and the need for stability in the mid-foot, (and also, the fact my foot is narrower there with high instep so I walk out of a lot of flats, leading to foot cramps) I prefer a little platform or heel. The Campers are nowhere near a 3/4" lift -- just a couple of centimetres -- but I'm hoping the extra soft leather and the strap and the rubbery absorbent sole/ heel will make them workable. I will report back.

Thanks for all the kind comments, everyone. If you are in the market, definitely check them out. And Lisa, I'll be curious to know if they work for you!

  • Mary replied 1 week ago

Your feet sound just like mine!
Those are adorable and I hope they work out.
i will await your verdict. lol.
    Did you get them locally?

  • Suz replied 1 week ago

Mary, I ordered them online from Camper Canada. Free delivery, free returns, so it seemed worth it. I had examined them in person when in Vancouver a month ago but didn't try them on at that point because it was freezing cold/ raining and I could not imagine every wanting to wear a lightweight shoe at that point, LOL. But I did know what they looked like in person and had felt the leather.

I believe there are few stores downtown that carry some products, though...maybe Head Over Heels? Worth a look.

  • Mary replied 1 week ago

Yes I think Head over heels carries the brand but good to know about the online store.Free returns is super!
