Silver pixie reveal

So. It's super short! Still a teeny bit of brass in it but the roots will add dimension as it grows in. Later I'll grow to a longer version. Just wanted to get as much of the brass off as possible.

ETA last photo colour adjusted a bit. The other ones are quite washed out -- we were in very bright sunlight.

    Yes!!!

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

I LOVE the colour, Wow. It looks better than the ash blonde! Lots of depth and textural interest. Winner.

Killer cut. Your hair stylist is good with short hair. It couldn't have gone any better, Suz. WELL DONE.

Hope you're feeling more positive about it all, and are over your cold. Much love to you.

  • replied 7 years ago

Woot! Man, that has to feel good! You look every bit as beatiful as I expected.
A bonus is that you still have a bit of blonde (it does NOT look brassy) at the front until your own eye adjusts. I love the color of the sides and the back. So perfect with your complexion.

  • Karie replied 7 years ago

Stunning! Your stylist did an excellent job with the cut, and your natural color is quite beautiful - it makes your complexion glow.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Oh thank you all. I am still feeling a bit nervous but I know the colour will be good. And guess what? I found a micro blading place in town and my hairdresser says they do fabulous work. She's getting her own brows done there.

Angie, she will be thrilled with your compliments. She is in fact excellent with short hair and also my hair likes to be short.

  • Astrid replied 7 years ago

I love it, Suz! And I think it's fantastic this short. You don't have to go much longer if you don't want to... Reminds me of my godmother, who has worn a short pixie since she started going white in her twenties.

  • rose replied 7 years ago

    So pretty,chic and all-round fab!

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

Beautiful. The colour is perfect - just couldn't be better and the cut is perfect too.  And you need to wear that t-shirt everyday now :)  Glad to hear you found a brow place nearby too!

  • replied 7 years ago

Actually I'm still a bit stunned. You look so different here - I cannot get over it.

  • columbine(erin) replied 7 years ago

You really look fab, Suz. You have such a pretty face and head shape, lol, maybe that is weird to say, but true.

  • AviaMariah replied 7 years ago

When you go for it you go for it!  It looks great and I can't wait to see you in your signature blue.  Your eyes are really going to pop!

  • jenanded replied 7 years ago

After seeing Angie's picture for you the other day I saw theae earrings below p and seeing a shiny berry lip that goes with your outfits... pretty pretty pretty!

Just gorgeous Suz. You look elegant, fun, and beautiful.

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

So amazed that you got so far so quickly!  The color is beautiful, and the stylist has clipped close, but kept an elegant shape.  Second the Mia Farrow reference!

  • Janet replied 7 years ago

I had to come back and look again. It really is a lovely transformation, and it's interesting because it's not *shocking,* you know? It still seems very much in keeping with the direction of your style in recent years. And I agree with the comments about how well it suits your features and your head shape (columbine, I know what you mean! and I don't think it's weird, mainly because I don't think I have a very nice head shape and thus will never wear my hair this short if I can help it!).

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 7 years ago

Oh, I like the color; it really suits your skin. It'll look really lovely on you in a longer length as well.

  • Jen W replied 7 years ago

    You look very chic!  Gorgeous!

  • Gaylene replied 7 years ago

Absolutely lovely. The pixie cut puts the focus on your gorgeous eyes and the silvery color brightens and lightens your face. Your picture is right up there with Una's as an inspiration for any woman who is contemplating whether or not it's time to put down the dye bottle!

  • texstyle replied 7 years ago

Looks great Suz - it does make your eyes stand out in the best way!  I think the color of your natural hair is great - nice silver highlights. I think you're going to have a lot of fun with this new style direction.

  • Ledonna N. replied 7 years ago

Oh this is so lovely on you

  • DizzyLizzy replied 7 years ago

Your natural colour is gorgeous on you.

  • Chris987 replied 7 years ago

Stunning! Not everyone looks good in really short hair but you sure do!!

  • Barbara Diane replied 7 years ago

Amazing! I wish I'd know to cut it shorter as I grew mine out, although I don't have the face for a cut like this.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thank you so much everyone -- what a great place this is; I feel reassured and really happy about doing it.

Mr. Suz likes it a lot. He thinks it is maybe a tiny bit on the short side up top (i.e. he'd like a longer fringe) but he understands I had to do this to get rid of most of the blonde. And I rather like this for a change, or think I will like it as I grow used to it.

It did make the "grow out" phase really short. I had my last permanent colour put on at the end of February. At the end of April I had a few highlights woven through to blend. And then this chop. I think the blonde should be all gone in a month or two, depending.

One reason the process was quick for me is that my hair is super thick. So she not only has to cut it much shorter, but she also thins it out, meaning most of the top layer of the hair is gone by the time the cut is all finished.

I have worn it this short in the past, so I knew that it suited me. I had it this short and red in my 30s, and short and natural dark blonde in my early 20s.

I think I'm similar in colouring to my dad; it's darker at the back and whiter at the temples and there's a sort of silver white forelock in the front which will show up more as the blonde disappears.

I am going to have fun playing with colours in the closet. I do think most of my current favourites will still work on me but I suspect there may be others that I can try in addition.

My hairdresser was actually more nervous than I was. But at the end the salon owner took a picture for Instagram.   :)

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 7 years ago

Suz!!!!  So much love for this!

  • replied 7 years ago

Love it.  Congratulations on the success of it.  Yay for you.

  • Elle replied 7 years ago

Looks absolutely amazing on you!  It's such a wonderful shape for you that I think you will like it when it grows a bit longer too.

  • Runcarla replied 7 years ago

Your natural colour is GORGEOUS! Of course, the cut is signiture Suz....but the colour...we should all be so lucky. :-)

  • Angela K replied 7 years ago

Love Love Love it!  You look totally fabulous.

  • Summer replied 7 years ago

This is fabulous, Suz, both the cut and the colour.  You are lucky to be able to wear that cut so beautifully.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

    SUPER FAB!

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

    It looks amazing.

  • replied 7 years ago

Beautiful, just stunning! I'm completely bowled over by the gorgeousness of this. You look even better than Angie's inspiration pic.

    Your stylist is top talent.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

Suz, you look stunning and beautiful. You do look every bit as good as Mia Farrow in the photo Nancy posted. Even better, I would say!
I am soooo envious. Wish I could rock a cut like this.

  • Traci replied 7 years ago

Oh man!  This is gorgeous!  I've always wanted to do a serious pixie cut, but I've never had the nerve.  I've gone very short quite a few times and always loved it, but have always kept some length in front.  I'd really like to try this super short once in my life.  I do think it's better on someone with more delicate features, like you and Angie.  So jealous!

  • viva replied 7 years ago

    Beautiful, Suz. You look ethereal.

  • RobinF replied 7 years ago

Wow, that looks amazing! Very inspiring to us grey-ing ladies!

  • Sal replied 7 years ago

It looks wonderful Suz, very cool indeed.  I also see Mia Farrow or (and I know she is older than you but I think she is gorgeous) Judi Dench.

Have fun playing around, it will be interesting to see what colours you are drawn to and what you will not enjoy as much.

  • cobaltblue replied 7 years ago

I love it, Suz! Enjoy this super short stage or grow it out a bit - you can always cut it off again. Your natural color is so multidimensional and really stunning.

You're really making me want to chop all my hair back off!

  • Lyn D. replied 7 years ago

Beautiful Suz, and such a quick transition!
It is a year since I have coloured and I still have some yellow ends.

  • El Cee replied 7 years ago

Oh Suz… you look gorgeous! I love this new cut on you, and the silver color is striking on you and totally fabulous.

  • replied 7 years ago

Just one more for love it.

  • Brooklyn replied 7 years ago

    Yay! You look beautiful.

  • Aziraphale replied 7 years ago

Wow, it looks fantastic! You can certainly rock the pixie style. I agree that the silver hair colour is very flattering, too. I am very impressed. :-)

  • Eliza replied 7 years ago

Wow-wow - wow... You look amazing. How that cut highlights your beautiful facial structure! And the color is just beautiful. How good it must feel to have had a "just do it" moment with this. Super way to make this transition your own. Brava!

  • Deborah replied 7 years ago

Suz, hope I don't sound like a loony but you have a beautifully shaped head, which I think is one of the requirements for a gorgeous pixie.  I was rendered speachless by your photos, so beautiful.  The cut, the colour, everything is total perfection.  You look absolutely stunning.   The silver colour is just amazing on you.  I so admire you just jumping in and doing it.  I have a secret desire to do the same but I am a big scaredy cat lol.  Your face is so fine and delicate and is highlighted so nicely by the new cut.  You are gorgeous.

  • Peri replied 7 years ago

So cute! Good for you! Are you a lipstick person? I can so see you now with some bright pink! Not garish bright, happy bright...if that makes sense.

  • deb replied 7 years ago

The cut looks so good on you!!!!!

  • Diana replied 7 years ago

Omg! You look amazing. Agree with everyone else that you have amazing bone structure- it's perfect for this type of short, sharp cut. The silver adds to the effect too. It's really chic.

  • Anna replied 7 years ago

All I can say is WOW! Perfect with your bone structure. Me and my big head are envious.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Anna, actually, I have a really big head! I don't technically have the proportions for a pixie, or so they say. The measurement from my lower earlobe to bottom of chin is longer than 2.5 inches. I also have a super high forehead (that benefits from a fringe that softens things). I also have a terribly crooked nose (and a deviated septum) and one eye much bigger than the other. And ginormous ears!

What I do have going for me is large eyes (albeit unbalanced); a nice wide smile, and good cheekbones.

I think I am living proof that for a pixie, "perfection" isn't necessary.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

ETA, thank you Columbine, Debs, Janet, and others for commenting on the head shape, and my remarks above are not meant to contradict that. It's one of those cases where according to all the "rules" it shouldn't work, but it always has worked on me -- making me think that there is something to those style personality classifications (e.g. Kibbe, Zyla, etc.)  It shouldn't work, but it does work, because it works with my personality.

I think ultimately I would like to grow it a wee bit (into a just slightly longer pixie) but I will keep it this way until all the blonde is gone.

What I really like about it is the drama. You can't go this short and not be noticed, for good or ill -- it's a definite style statement. Not a wishy washy cut at all.

Jen, I love those earrings. I have seen something similar and might pick up a pair -- thank you for the suggestion!

And Peri, believe it or not, I was wearing some lipstick in the photo, but admittedly a fairly neutral one and it was probably quite worn off -- it is a light gloss in the same berry shade as my lips. My lips are not light toned so I have to go relatively bright or dark to get a really vivid look on them.

I have been playing around with clothing colours and making some interesting discoveries. Naturally my blues continue to work really well. Greys are great (dark and light and metallic). Ditto orchids and berries. But some brightly coloured patterns don't work as well -- it is too much colour contrast, with my more neutral grey hair, I think. It's not the colour itself -- it's the variation. The pattern takes over.  I think I will still be able to wear and enjoy my taupe suit, thank goodness, particularly if I pair it with the right partners.

Black and white (which I could barely get away with before) now looks really great as long as it is a small pattern rather than a large one. I am sure the right reds are going to be fabulous, too.

I'm travelling this weekend and DD still has my camera, but I'll hope to get some pictures eventually...

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Suz, you are so beautiful and fearless. Is it still a shock to look in the mirror?

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Oh, and Mochi, thanks for the sweet comparison to Mia. I have been likened to her in the past whenever I've had my hair super short, as well as to Jean Seberg, who is a real style icon of mine, and my DD now says I look like Annie Lennox, another icon.

  • anne replied 7 years ago

Suz - wow that was quick!!  You look stunning my dear!

  • Windchime replied 7 years ago

Absolutely stunningly fantastic cut and color! I love how it brings out your beautiful eyes. I also how the silvery grey top you are wearing beautifully echoes your hair color.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thanks, Anne. And Joy...not too bad. Don't forget I have worn it this short once or twice in my life. It is only the colour that is a shock and will take some adjusting to. But this is not as big a change as if my hair had been dark brown.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 7 years ago

This is fantastic! I am such a fan of a super short pixie, and I especially love it on you. I am so glad you did it, and I really really love the color. I think that you are going to have so much fun letting your natural color out. :-) Yay, this makes me so happy!!

  • dakotacheryl replied 7 years ago

OK seriously you are gorgeous...big head, comments about nose, eyes etc...balderdash (ohh fun word to use).

It will be fun to see how the color evolves as the hair lengthens...congrats on taking the plunge!!

  • rebekahphoto replied 7 years ago

looks fabulous! I really love the texture and the silver. just stunning. and I am uber jealous of the care routine!!

  • BrieN replied 7 years ago

You do look stunning! I've been reading the comments and nodding my head - how well it suits your lovely features. Well done, you.

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

I saw your thumbnail on another thread and had to jump over here right away! What when did this happen? Where was I? It looks Amazing. Amazing. A whole new dimension to your face, character, beauty, the whole package. How did your family react? (and apologizes if answered up this long thread - I jumped from picture to comment!)

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

You look amazing Suz! What A transformation!!!!!! Your delicate features shine through when you wear your hair like this.

Love love love love love it!!!!!!

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Jaime, I just got fed up with the dye. The golden tones were reading too brassy to me. I had been trying to persuade stylists (I went to two) to "let" me go grey but they resisted with the usual ..."I don't want you to feel old; you're not ready...yada yada."

Anyway, I stopped with the colour in early February. I did have some highlights (no main colour) in April. And then just decided it was time to do the chop. I was ready for a hairstyle update anyway and this was the way to go. I went back to my first hairstylist. She had moved from her old place of employment and it seems to have helped her attitude. I told her I was ready for the cut and she did it without argument this time. She loved the result, it turned out.

Family has been good. Mark likes it a lot; Maia resisted before I went but has decided I look "cool," like Annie Lennox. I'll take it!

  • Gaylene replied 7 years ago

Wow--being told by your teenage daughter you look like Annie Lennox! 'Nuff said!

  • replied 7 years ago

I was going to say the same as Deborah- you have a beautifully shaped head (it sounds so unelegant saying it, but it's true!) . A great cut.

I have an egg head and admire your lovely cranium curvature :)

  • Gail replied 7 years ago

Almost speechless here ! It's FANTASTIC on you . I feel as though your face must have been hiding before. You sparkle.

  • unfrumped replied 7 years ago

Oh wow, Suz!  You look so good!  Really excellent decision to go in this direction.

I'm so envious.  This will be so much easier to maintain.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Thanks for your kind words. As for maintenance I am not sure I will have anything! But my other style was wash and wear also, so that's no big change. Just a new product perhaps. A bit of pomade with shine.

  • Aida replied 7 years ago

Really lovely, Suz! Your natural color looks like it'll work right into your color palette ^^

  • Roxanna replied 7 years ago

Sorry Suz for chiming in late on this one - been a busy couple of weeks. I wanted to say how much your cheekbones and eye colour pop with this delicious shade of silver! It so suits you and you look so vital because of the dimension in your hair, your sparkling eyes and your smile of course :) I am interested to see what it looks liek when it grows out a bit, and how you will decide to wear it!

Hello, PixElated!  Love your new look and your natural color is gorgeous and perfect with your skin tones.

I'm thrilled that you moved in this direction, and may I share that lately, after a terrible coloring job, I've lately been pulling back my hair to see how I look with my natural grey roots presenting themselves at my temples and sides.

I keep wondering!?  So happy you embraced your beautiful, natural highlights.
