The long awaited Zara culottes: Thank Shevia

Remember I wanted to add some culottes to my wardrobe this summer? I tried on a few but none seemed just right. Finally I ordered a fun blue and white pair from Zara, but they never arrived. Some mess up with the UPS.

I did (eventually) get my money back but by then, they were sold out of my size. And with my busy and emotionally draining summer I didn't really have time for any  more shopping until NAS.

Imagine my surprise when I came home from my trip to visit my mother's remaining family members to find a package all the way from Israel!! Inside (courtesy the lovely and thoughtful Shevia) were the Zara culottes!

These are a size up from my normal Zara size and they are a bit large in the waist. I think I could wear them like this (sort of on the high hip) but if I am correct they are meant to be higher waist. In the second photo I'm sort of hitching them up a bit.

I haven't really tried to style them (I'm not sure quite how to style them, to tell you the truth) -- I just threw them on with something that wouldn't clash.

Do you think I should adjust the waist and keep? And what about the length. Nipping the waist makes them a tiny bit shorter.

And isn't Shevia the best???   :) :) :)

I like it as is!  What a fun find!

  • deb replied 8 years ago

Oh yes, you must keep these!

  • Joyce B replied 8 years ago

I think they are very nice and the second photo is best. They would also look great with the top fully tucked, I think they need either a cropped or a tucked-in top, not too much volume on top.
    Keep, of course!
And it was really nice of Shevia to surprise you with them.

  • JamC replied 8 years ago

I like them at that size. I think I would like the proportions with a more fitted and tucked top like Joyce B suggested.
Another example of the kindness of YLFers! So nice of Shevia!

I like the second photo: the lines of the stripes seem to flow out into a full skirt better with a higher, fitted waist. Fitting the waist also gives a bit of structure with the softer top so the overall look isn't too slouchy or boxy.

Thumbs up--and Shevia is the best!!

They are cute for summer - and give the look of a full skirt.  I agree with Joyce in that they need a fitted and cropped top in order to reign in the volume.....and yes, I think they do look a bit better with some of the volume taken out as you  are showing in #2.  They'll be nice with a denim jacket popped over top too - as long as the length of the jacket is right. Good luck!

Super cute and VERY fashion forward, Suz. Ultra dramatic. I like the way you styled them here, actually. Nice!

A tight tucked top, or tight cropped top will work too. ENJOY, and bless darling Jaime.

What a lovely thing for Shevia to do! I like them in #2 best. Adjust the waist and KEEP!

  • Lyn D. replied 8 years ago

How thoughtful of Shevia- YLF kindness all over the world!

  • replied 8 years ago

Oh wow, these are wonderfully striking, Suz. I'm so glad they found you! I agree with others that the lines look better if taken in at the waist as in pic 2, though I also like the slightly longer length in pic 1. But length probably has much to do with the right footwear--sorry I can't advise on that as I struggle with footwear for my own pair of culottes. I love these with your white top. Very fresh and exciting.

    Yes, Shevia is the best!

I think they look equally nice in the two pictures so whichever makes you feel fab (or more fab) is the keeper.  Another example of what a wonderful community Angie and Greg have fostered.

What a fun addition to your summer capsule, Suz, and such a great color for you.

Shevia's gift and timing are wonderful!

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

Definitely take up waist. That gives them the great shape for tucking or fitted cropped top and so I think you'd reach for them more. They are super- cool on you - you can SO wear blue& white, so the drama is ther but in this great wearable palette. Yay For Fabbers.

Aw shucks Suz :-). I got at least as much pleasure sending them as I hope you will wearing them. I love the idea of the high waist and cropped top. I do love the length and I am so glad they (almost) fit!

  • replied 8 years ago

I love these! Super cute, and gives you that mile-long leg look.
I like both pics--they look the same, to me.
I suppose a tighter top would look good, although I like what you've chosen.
    Very summery!

These are dramatic and fun looking Suz! How thoughtful of Shevia! I love them on you and think they are a great addition to your wardrobe.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

I loved these when I saw them online a couple of months ago -- love them even more on you.  Shevia knew they would be fab on you!

I would wear "as is" this summer --- if you'd like to wear with cropped tops next spring, you'd have plenty of time to alter over the winter!

  • Sveta replied 8 years ago

    Shevia is awesome!
They look good but do you like the feel of the fabric? This was a deal breaker for me even though I liked the color, pattern and cut.

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Love these. They are so dramatic, with just the right colors! I like the fitted waist and slightly shortened look of #2.

And this is such a sweet sweet gesture by Shevia. What a sweetheart! What goes around comes around, eh? Suz, I remember you sending a surprise package to Anne in Australia only a while back :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Isn't Shevia a sweetheart?  I love these on you, especially in the 2nd photo, and like how you have styled them.  I can see you wearing them on stage for a summertime reading.  Dramatic but not over the top.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

These are great! Somehow they make you look tall, which seems counter intuitive with culottes.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

"just threw them on with something that didn't clash" and that looks fabulous with them!
I really like these culottes on you, Suz. Keep and take in the waist as needed. From the photo in 1, I can't even tell they are too big, but the second photo does look better. I agree with Sara L, they somehow make you look tall. As well as very current!
Shevia is the best. I can't get over how thoughtful she was to send these to you.

  • Ankita replied 8 years ago

You styled them so well here! ☺
I think a crop top would look awesome with these...the length looks perfect and they do look really good on you!!!
Aww and what a sweet thing to do... Shevia I bet this was the nicest surprise all thanks to you! ❤

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Wow, so fun!! Really like the dramatic vertical stripes and the bright mid blue color(instead of a more common navy, or black)! Pls. keep!:-)

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I love these on you.  How thoughtful of Shevia.

  • Mona replied 8 years ago

Shevia is a sweetheart to send these to you. They look such a fun addition to your wardrobe.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 8 years ago

A fabulous addition to your wardrobe!  Kudos to the wonderful Shevia for going above and beyond!

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

Shevia - you are fantastic!  I think these look like a great style on you Suz - I hope you can get them altered easily. It definitely gives the appearance of a full skirt but with the comfort/practicality of culottes.

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

    You are seriously rockin' these!

  • viva replied 8 years ago

Love these! And how sweet of Shevia! I'm also pro pic-2, but I like Beth Ann's thoughts because pic-1 is still a good look. Wear them like this now, and then alter over the winter (unless you have a fast tailor -- I've already see some changing leaves here!!!).

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

I love them on you! Suz, the length is great. She is is the best ;).
