W2W WritersFest: Moto version

I am all set for today's WritersFest event. This afternoon, I am hosting (i.e. introducing the moderator at a short fiction event and thanking sponsors) and immediately after that I have to go to a BBQ at my daughter's school, returning to the festival afterwards to be in the audience and socialize with friends following their events. I plan simply to wear Look #3 from this thread: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....sia-jacket

Depending on the temps I may add tights, but this is the general plan for today unless you tell me I am crazy.

Tomorrow, I will be hosting another afternoon event on self-publishing, probably going out to eat with some people, and then attending an evening talk by Naomi Wolf. So I am trying the new denim moto and Celia's top.

I thought I would wear just the blouse/ skirt to my hosting event and add the jacket later.

To me the proportions look weird from the side/back. Should I come up with something different? I could also switch the booties out for black ones. I am sort of clueless about how to wear these pieces, truth be told!

Last pic is the Zara moto for comparison!

You got a denim moto? I missed that! I love it. I can't tell very well from the photos - is 4-9 a dark denim moto then?

You look great. I'm not totally sure how I feel about the longer back of the top with the cropped jacket but I think it's probably on trend, just not what I'm used to seeing.

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Love that look! Perfect for the events you are describing. I so much like the Zara moto... Sigh.
Celia's top fits you so well and the long necklaces gives it just the right balance. Layering with the moto is very stylish.

Love the front, but agree that the extra long back and cropped jacket back aren't my most favorite match.

The new booties ARE great BTW! Are those the Joust?

Back to outfit - what about belting the top when under the jacket? That would let you blouse it in back to whatever length. I DO like the lack of belt in front, but whatever works in back is probably more important.

Is the Zara longer in back? Does that change up the proportions?

(I just brought an Equipment blouse to be shortened for this very reason - it's one I wear *under* stuff and those tails are just too, too long in back.)

I like the blouse as is with the moto. The booties compliment the blouse so well. Very nice!

First of all, congrats on finding a fab moto jacket. I like the denim better than the Zara one, FWIW.
These are all great looks. I wonder if the top/moto look is better in motion (speaking of the back view, the front looks fab!)? I wonder how MNsara's idea of belting would work? I would not change course at all, I love this!

I like the proportions, Suz! I think you told them who is boss by adding a shorter skirt and heeled booties. Good job!

Have to say, that Zara moto looks pretty killer. (But the sleeves are problematic).

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit Suz - from top to bottom. It's classic, chic and rocker chick all rolled into one stylin' outfit!

Did you decide to send back the Zara leather moto? Or are you going to have Wonder Woman East have a look at it? LIke Angie says, it does look killer on you...

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thank you so much, one and all!

Shannon...with some regret, I am returning the Zara moto. I feel that the alteration would be too expensive/difficult and I can't manage the sleeves as is. I'm going to hold out for an even more perfect jacket, and in the meantime, I get to play with this moto look with the fast fashion waxed denim instead. To tell the truth, the denim is a bit more practical and easy for me. I can layer over and under it, and it is lightweight for travel, etc.

The fastfashion waxed denim moto has exactly the same proportions as the Zara one, Sara, which is one reason I jumped at it when I saw it in the store. And yes, those are the Joust booties. I really like them.

I am still not certain about that long shirttail, but I think I will give it a go.

Love this on you Suz - you are taupetastic! This is an outfit that can take oh so stylishly to all 3 of your functions today -
Am also ok with the view from the back - it's what happens with cropped motos.
Wishing you all the best in your hosting duties - and have a great time at the BBQ!

You look great! Love the boots and top with the skirt.

Still adjusting to this more RATE look though...

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

You've nailed it Suz. Your outfit it so simple yet so effortlessly chic. How do you wear a top, skirt, boots and a necklace and make it look like a million dollars?

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

be brave dear SUz, wear this fun shirt tail in YOUR taupe...I love how the black brings out the richness of the taupe. You should be queened for your booties...they are always so fun and comfy!

  • pastrygirl replied 11 years ago

In these pics, I far prefer the denim moto -- it looks GREAT! Those booties are just about perfect, too.

  • Queen Mum replied 11 years ago

Gasp! This is so so fab!

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

I'm dead of killer! I love everything about this outfit, including the length of the blouse under the cropped moto (but I love crazy arty proportions like that). I would steal it and wear it in a heartbeat.

I'm having fun living vicariously through the WritersFest with you--it's been a few years since I was able to attend one. The self-publishing panel sounds particularly interesting. And Naomi Wolf? So fab.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Gosh I love that denim moto on you! And the taupe. Do you feel like things are snapping into place now? I get that feeling. :)

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

The side view gives me some pause too but if it has Angie's approval what else matters? :-) Otherwise it is a simple , strong and modern outfit.
I really dig your denim moto, so cool and practical! Where did you found it?

  • JR replied 11 years ago

Oh, I am taking notes! I have been consciously working toward tunic length shirts over a pencil skirt, but I see you've beat me to it! :o)

The longer back with a cropped jacket is a trend, so you can get away with it now. To my older eyes it looks a bit weird, but I have been known to do similar things. ;o) I don't know how long it will be on-trend, but might as well play with it while it is. During my formative years, letting anything hang lower than the jacket was an absolute no-no, but things change.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Just an idea if you really don't like the back view (I think it's fine) could you semi-tuck the back while you had the jacket on? Have fun - you look fantastic.

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

I love love love love your moto!!!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Thanks, all ! I am chuckling, Sveta and JR... that side and back view really give my old eyes pause, too, but yes, if Angie approves...

Ironically, it may turn out too cold to wear this outfit tomorrow anyway! So it may not be a go after all!

Sveta, Lyn, the waxed denim moto is H&M fast fashion. And for me it will stand in for the leather that I don't yet have.

Rae, I DO feel as if things are ...well...maybe not snapping into place, but at least adjusting focus. I am beginning to get clearer. In a way it is helpful to have this once a year extravaganza of public events. I really have to step up my game and it teaches me a great deal. I also learn a great deal. I'm in a much better place than I was last year at this time.

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

You look great, Suz! I'm glad you posted this. I've always wondered about long hems and cropped jackets. I wear them anyway but it's good to know that it's Angie approved :)

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Late but I really love that top on you. And with the moto. And the boots. Glad you are feeling good about it!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Like Kelly, I'm glad that you posted this because proportions are problematic for me to figure out. You look wonderfully stylish and arty and true to your style.
