Blogger Copycat Day 5: Stripes and Sparkle

My interpretations keep getting looser and looser.

Today I had planned to copy a different A-P outfit, one with a skirt or one with shiny pants. But the only shiny pants I have don't fit properly. (My ill-fated thrifted fuchsia suit, remember *that* fashion fail???) And while I *really* would have liked to pretend that I could mimic her stripes/chambray/pink pants with *my* pink pants and a denim shirt...well...I know that my pants are way too 90s in shape. It's sad, because I had hoped to show an outfit with those components to Deborah, who tipped me off a while ago about A-P's combinations.

Then, I realized that the skirt look I had in mind would result in the same tight clingage that Janet complained about yesterday. Not to mention that the layered shirts, while fun in theory, promised to bug me twice as much as a layered shirt/tank/denim jacket bothered me a few days back. No way I wanted to go there.

So I "cheated" and picked a different A-P outfit.

This one lets me debut my new striped sweater. For A-P's print jeans, I have my coated legging jeans...they are a sort of burgundy-toned or purplish brown IRL. It's fall, so I'm wearing boots. In tribute to Goldenpig's question about leopard print, I'm adding the "spots" on my scarf via leopard print. And in tribute to A-P's maximal jewellery look I have even added an old-lady brooch, plus some arm candy.

Real life wearability: 10.

Happiness factor: 10.

Love this on you! It looks cosy, interesting, and stylish. What more could a girl ask for?

    Zap's dropped jaw factor :10
I am so glad you had your taupepiphany. That color is brilliant on you. I do not check AP's blog too much, perhaps I should!

I love your interpretation, Suz. This challenge is really bringing out your creativity; I've been enjoying your looks all week. And a happiness factor of 10 is hard to beat!

This is so great! The "old lady" touches of the vintage broach + leopard scarf on an otherwise modern outfit send this to another level! Love!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

You knocked it out of the park! Love this! How did you do your scarf? Is it tied in the back?

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Ack! Brilliant! Love the "old lady brooch" and how you've tied your scarf. Like Joy, would love a quick run down of how you tied it.

This is a great interpretation and totally "Suzified".

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

what i like about this adaptation is that you get the "flavor" of the inspiration shots adapted to your reality. after all, fashion should fit our real lives, not just our imaginary one!

the brooch is all kinds of awesome. plus...this is a very modern way to wear leopard (see previous convo started by goldenpig.)

I love the brooch on the scarf! I always see brooches at the thrift store and think "what would I do with that?". I may actually buy one next time just so I can do something cool with a scarf like this.

    Wow! Stunning!

Thank you, everybody. I should thank MaryK again for the challenge (which taught me a lot, as they inevitably do) and also GP for her leopard thread this morning, which got me thinking!

The scarf...oh, how have I tied it? I wish I could give a tutorial, but basically, I've just wrapped it around twice, tied an ordinary knot, 'fluffed" that knot so it lies a little better, and then tucked the ends underneath. They stay because the scarf is not a slippery fabric and it is snug enough that they don't come loose.

It's funny. I love scarves and wear them a lot. But I don't generally like them when they hang down very long in front (on me especially, but often even on others...I should have added that to my poison eye comments). And, despite that, I have never given a scarf tying tutorial the attention I ought to give it! I know they exist, and I should really learn how to tie mine better.

The brooch is fun, isn't it? I sometimes wear it on a cummerbund belt, too.

very fab scarf styling an dlove the look. you are one stylish work from home mom!!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

I love everything here, Suz! You take those A-P outfits and create independent interpretations that stand on their own, evolving into something I can relate to on another level than the original. This is poetry! You are so creative.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I love how the colours of the shirt and sweater echo the colours of your hair and eyes. Just wonderful. That brooch was an unexpected touch, and so much fun.

I'm not familiar with A-P, but her tastes are definitely more "maximal" than mine. I like your toned-down version much better.

Zap - Ha! Taupephiphany is a really great word!!!

Suz, this is so beautiful on you. I agree with Zap that the taupe decision was just so right for you. I also am loving taupe and thinking about it a lot, kind of like a mink color, or just exactly the shade of hot cocoa. I have a taupe turtleneck, but must add more because it just looks so rich and yet so simple.

You have a really great knack for mixing interesting textures which elevates your outfits far above the norm! And the brooch is gorgeous.

May I just also take a moment to say your face is lovely, your best fashion item by far! Thanks for the close up.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

I really like the brooch on the scarf. It could look matronly if not done right but it looks very current. I think the leopard helps too.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Suz you have certainly done AP proud. I love your outfit and that broach is stunning. No question taupe is just fab on you. Clever interpretation... You have made it yours/)

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

Suz, I love this look on you. And I also love the brooch. Interesting and unexpected

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

LOVE THIS!! And I have similar pieces so must get to copying ASAP!

Taupephiphany is a really great word.
    Taupe-tastic you are.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Ohhhh I have been dying to see you do #1 with those fuchsia pants! They didn't work out? Dang. Regardless, #4 is brilliant (and I'm somewhat selfishly glad you got the taupe sweater, it really is amazing for you). Adding the bracelets AND the broach is a very nice touch, and I am happy to see those coated skinnies come out. Suz, I am clearly really into seeing very casual bottoms on you (coated skinnies! distressed denims!) since you have a natural elegance; it's instant dramatic juxtaposition!

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Suz, this just stunning on you and love your taupe sweater! The scarf and brooch make the outfit. Well done!!!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Thank you for explaining the scarf process. I got to GP's thread after this. Nothing old and aging about how you wear leopard. If it's man-repelling, that's their loss.

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

Great interpretation Suz and I love how you've done your scarf.

  • Gaylene replied 11 years ago

Just a fabulous interpretation; I like your version better than the original! Suz, you have come so far in this past year--even the point of getting the tag "Suzified" to describe your distinctive style. I think it was the mention of the fuchsia pantsuit which really made me stop and reflect on how far you've come on your style journey. Well done!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

I think this is much more you & I love the brooch.

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Suz, I'm loving your recent outfit posts, and like your version much better and wearable than the bloggers'! I have the pieces you've used in this outfit and might try a version of the same.

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

This looks super-Fab Suz, and I agree with the other comments about the brooch on the scarf being both original and terrific!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Amazing scarf tie and brooch! I'm so glad you brought out your leopard for me! Rowr!

And you look fantastic in taupe, by the way. I wish I could wear that color like you do!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

What can I say, Suz? Thinkinh through th outfit and not substituting th comfort for the sake of appearence really pays back because I thing this outfit is amazing! Love it al including the "old lady" brooch!
Is this BR denim shirt you wear here? I find that min is not verry good for layering ecause it is a relaxed fit. I am considering to tak it in a bit to reduce the bulk...

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Such a cute result! Absolutely love that look on you. It's very dynamic and put together.

A shame for your fushia pants. No hopes of transforming them into high hem cigarette pants à la Audrey Hepburn (and similar to the inspiration post)?

    The scarf addition is genius.

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

I like the striped sweatter in neutral, too:-), and am over the moon about how you styled it including that stunning old lady brooch on that fab tied animal scarf.BTW, I loved all your blogger copycat outfits, Suz, just haven't time to comment:-(
