Danier coat: At home pics

This is not really a K/R post. I love this coat. And Mr. Suz, who was all set to give me a lecture on fiscal responsibility, took one look and basically suggested that I cut the tags.

This shows you how it looks open, closed, and with the collar in various permutations. I love it especially with the pointy toed shoes. (Shevia, you were right -- waving at my Zara bootie twin!). But I know I will need to wear it with other boots as well so show them also.

I need some black gloves, I guess. And, what kind of bag do you wear with this?

Lingering concerns (but not serious enough to make me return, I suspect):

1. It's grey. And my puffer is also grey. And I get so tired of grey in winter! Fortunately, it is light grey.

2. It's really not suitable for layering over heavy stuff. I can...but it's not as sleek or comfortable then. Especially in the hip area and the shoulders. I tried the size up but it was too big. Fortunately, I can layer under my existing red coat very easily.

I know I said it wasn't a K/R but if you think I am nuts, do let me know.

Keep keep keep! I love it with the colorful gloves!

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Happy dance! & what about a black quilted/+patent docs bag? (sorry, I've just envisioned my winter bag with your new coat, sigh:-)

  • Susie replied 9 years ago

Very nice! It's quite interesting and so flattering. Keep and enjoy!

  • Parsley replied 9 years ago

You are not nuts- it looks fabulous on you! It's a great addition to your coat capsule. Enjoy!
    Is it warm?

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I am going to say that you won't get tired of this gray coat because it is so freakin' stylish!! I also have a winter coat that I can't layer under very well, and I get a lot of wear out of it anyway as the coat is nice and warm. I wear it a lot when I go shopping - which, uh, ahem, is kind of something I like to do :)

And now I know why that border guard asked me if I had done any shopping while in Canada - he obviously knew this coat was at Danier!

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

    Wow! This is gorgeous!

  • Vix replied 9 years ago

What a fun, sleek, stylish coat to have in your O Canada closet!

I love dramatic collars, and you wear them well. I think you'll really enjoy it.

ps I hadn't seen the red one yet, which is also a winner. Now don't up and move to Florida anytime soon. ;)

  • kerry replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous, stylish, and anything but boring!

  • Dottie replied 9 years ago

    I absolutely love it!

    Perfect, Suz!

  • Runcarla replied 9 years ago

How about a black leather backpack style purse? (I picked up a Rudsack convertible leather bag from Winners last month!)

  • Ginkgo replied 9 years ago

So fab, you'd be nuts not to keep it!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

Wow, Suz! This is the same feeling I had with the plaid pants. I post K/Rs even when smitten because I often ignore PPP when I'm in love. You don't ignore PPP ever. So yes, keep! This fits all your needs and looks incredible. :).

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 9 years ago

You look sharp.   This coat is definitely a keeper!

If you get tired of grey, you can always add color via a scarf or mittens/gloves   :D

  • chouette22 replied 9 years ago

I still love it as much as yesterday. What a great purchase!

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

    Well, it does look GOOD!
So I leave it to your coat capsule math.
Also it may speak to your silhouette change- up vs color priorities. You can add bright handbag or gloves as suggested

There may be some aha moments re: coat capsules, too. It seems easier to get more style packed into lighter weight/ duty coats, for various reasons. And easier to wear it , say running errands if one has a warm car. So maybe that is a reminder to really seek that out for the less "polar " items.

  • donnat replied 9 years ago

This coat is gorgeous. Very stylish and I love those pink gloves.

  • Sharon replied 9 years ago

I love it! Stylish and interesting and a little bit edgy! It's so funny about your husband. I was chatting with a SA in a boutique and she was saying that she sells more when women bring their husbands along because the husbands can see how fab their wives look and suddenly money doesn't matter.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

Love, Suz. You look amazing. Well done :)

  • deb replied 9 years ago

It is a perfect coat and looks so good on you.

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

It certainly has the WOW_Factor Suz!
Such a dramatic collar, and you know that I am a big fan of grey too :)

  • AJ replied 9 years ago

SQUEE!!  Looks so good on you, Suz!  Yay, Mr. Suz likes it too!

  • Astrid replied 9 years ago

I was a bit hesitant, but these pictures changed my mind. So yes, please keep!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thanks, all. It's funny --- I honestly didn't go into Danier to shop for myself. I was actually picking something up for Mr. Suz. (See, it's all his fault!) And this coat literally jumped off the hanger at me. I wasn't going to try anything on. But as I walked past it, something just sort of called me, almost like a musical refrain! And I thought, "Oh, it won't hurt just to put it on..."

You know you are in serious trouble when you hear that song, right? ;)

I like the backpack idea a lot, Carla! That sounds excellent. I might just have to do that. Angie suggested that backpacks work well with puffer coats, also. And since I'll also be wearing one of those quite soon, it makes sense.

Since one of my goals has been to add more "statement" items, this definitely fits the bill.

Unfrumped, I live in a climate where there really isn't such a thing as "too many coats." For a good 7 months of the year I need a relatively heavy coat. For another 3 months I probably need a lighter coat (like a trench). And for two months, the only time I need a topper is in air conditioning.

Anyway -- my "cold weather" coat capsule up until now has been 3: navy/ black colourblock military style peacoat (which is well loved and well worn but not great quality and possibly on its final year); the red wool coat shown (which I adore, and which is high quality, and will last for at least another five years, I hope); and one heavy weight puffer. I have now added this coat and (maybe) a lighter weight, lighter coloured puffer. This doesn't feel at all excessive considering how often I wear a coat. This one is not super warm but is as warm as my peacoat.

Vix, the red coat was actually one of my first YLF purchases. It was a big-ticket item and I had a lot of problems with flaws in the first few versions that I tried, but ultimately it worked out and I got a sale price on it. :)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

My opinion has not changed: you will be nuts if you return it! :-)

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Suz, I still adore this coat and it looks absolutely fabulous on you:)

I am cautiously optimistic based on your comments.

Is it comfortable, and is the collar comfortable to wear?  Prickly at all?
Will you be happy with the grey?
How do you feel it plays with the outfits you will wear under it?
Would you be limited to just carrying the same bag when wearing it (if you bought a back pack)?
Do you feel your footwear will work?

I am not trying to burst your bubble, but I am one who absolutely hates having totally fab items in my closet that end up not working for me.  Just want to make sure!  The issue is not how it looks on you, because it looks SO GOOD, it's does it really work with your lifestyle and wardrobe?

    xxx

  • Tania replied 9 years ago

This is such a beautiful coat, framing your fabulous face and hair.

I think Deborah's questions are good ones, although I hope all the answers affirm that this coat indeed works for you!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Deborah, those are great questions! Thank you.

    1. It is totally comfortable. The zipper is actually two way, so if I am sitting I can open it from the bottom. (Can also do this for a slightly different look -- but it wouldn't offer genuine warmth worn that way, of course.) The wool is very, very soft and so is the leather. No prickliness.

    2. I can't know for sure if I will be happy with the grey. It suits me and looks nice, but it might pall during our very grey season. And any hat I choose would have to be super simple. So this is truly an unknown. OTOH, I haven't tired of my grey sweaters.

    3. Since my colour palette is basically blue, grey, some winter white, and a bit of berry and plum, and since I tend to wear denim in various cuts, almond or pointy toed booties or boots, and semi-tucked pullovers for my regular wear, I think this will play easily with my clothes. It won't work very well (if at all) with skirts and dresses. But I have few of those for winter. It does not layer all that well over a jacket. So that limits the type of outfits it can be worn with, for sure.  Basically, we are talking about a city walking coat for pants -wearing days. However, since that describes the majority of my life, I think it's fair to say I will get enough wear from it.

    4. I have a couple of other bags that might work -- a big reptile embossed charcoal tote; my black and cream colour blocked tote; a dark red crossbody. My bag selection is very small anyway. I am not worried if I decide I need another bag to wear with this -- I have been hoping to get a few more bags this winter anyway, but simply haven't seen the right ones.

    5. Yes. It works with my moto boots (shown), pointy toed ink booties (shown), almond toed black booties, black knee highs, grey heeled knee highs, and grey mid-calf snow boots. Could also work with my cranberry booties, although I doubt I would wear those with it terribly often. Will also work nicely with my SE Petty snakeskin booties.

All in all, I think it's a good and dramatic addition to the wardrobe and I plan to keep. Thank you all for your thoughts!! And now, please stop me also lusting after the one that Dianthus posted!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

You wear this so well Suz.  Gorgeous coat.  Although I think if you're going to wear those super cool pink gloves, you need a pink scarf or bag to bookend them.  I must admit my eye was drawn right to your hands.

I don't think you need to worry at all about not getting heavy pieces underneath it.  I know all too well the different wieghts and uses of coats we need... this may just be your late fall/early winter/mild days in the winter/early spring coat.  Or your wear over something light when going from house to car to function coat.  Cuz we need those coats too!

FWIW, I have a lighter wool one that is fairly close fitting, and while it doesn't see a ton of wear, I'm very glad to have it.

  • karymk replied 9 years ago

QT!! Love it Suz, good pick and who cares if you can't layer tons of sweaters and knits under it.  I am sure you have a coat for days like those. This one is just too stylish for words.  Love with the bright gloves, can't imagine it looking half as nice with the black...

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Still love it (especially with our boots ;-)), and I think it adds a slightly different dimension to your style that you will really enjoy.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

This coat looks so fabulous on you. I'm glad that the tags are off.

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Catching up after a long day, I was so happy to see this!  I think your thought process is quite level headed and reasonable  And the coat is stunning -- a true statement: modern, but not overwhelming.

I hear you on the "grey" for winter issue, but it gives so much to your winter style quotient, that I think you can safely set that aside.

    Danier is such a treasure!

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

Beautiful! I love it with your bright gloves. Accessories will take care of the gray doldrums later. The collar is stunning, sculptural petals framing your smile.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Thanks for understanding where I was coming from Suz:) Not that you need it, but you have my blessing! Keep and enjoy, it is stunning on you.

  • Sal replied 9 years ago

It is super, love the shape...and it is perfect with the hot pink gloves.  I love the colour.  I think you will enjoy wearing this.

  • Deb replied 9 years ago

A lovely coat in many ways Suz. My only concern is the collar, as large collar designs are not the most flattering on small women. Collars are best when sized in proportion and relation to our body size. Where you have the collar up, the size looks better on you.

  • AviaMariah replied 9 years ago

It is beautiful on you!  I love the pink gloves with it.  Maybe you should just some brights to your winter accessories capsule.

  • gardenchick replied 9 years ago

Just joining the chorus of fabbers admiring this coat. Stunning!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

I love the new coat, Suz. I'm glad it found you! I also adore that red one on you. As someone who has a closet full of coats, several of which are okay-but-not-great for my current size/style/life situation, I wholeheartedly support the purchase of one that you love.

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Love it. The side view is AMAZING.

  • Rubygirl replied 9 years ago

I love the coat... I actually came across this site when searching the EB Lodge coat.. Then I got to looking around just fab.. Came across this post of yours.. This coat is a keeper for you for sure

  • Helena replied 9 years ago

Absolute keeper Suz! Agreed, we have about eight different coat seasons ... No great coat goes wasted in Ontario!! :D

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Killer Stunning Coat. You'd be in trouble if you weren't keeping it. xo

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Oh, thank you, Angie! Yes, I got this one while you were on holiday. There are some fun store pics, too. I actually went in there for another errand. Ooops! Came out with a coat for me.  :)  It is already getting lots of wear.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Ah. That's why I didn't recognize the new coat. That's the way the cookie crumbles, Suz - it's when we DON"T look for something, that we often find it. xo

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

Love the new coat and the red one too.

  • dashielle (Ann) replied 9 years ago

Just catching up, having missed the original post. Had to say unfortunately that yes, you ARE crazy...for even doubting this coat for one second! 200% love!
