Lilac, Toffee & White: 4 variations

My "toffees" are more like taupe or sand...or, on the other end, cognac.

My "lilac" is a bit deeper and closer on the scale to radiant orchid.

My "whites" include winter white, optic white, and cream.

But here are 4 variations of today's ensemble.

The first is my favourite and the one I might actually wear when I go to a reading later on tonight (depending how cold it is -- I will definitely need a coat over this.)

The third one feels the least modern, with the snug fit of everything.

The fourth doesn't include a lot of lilac but there is violet in the scarf.

Conclusion: I would like to add some toffee accessories. The colour is too warm for me to wear near my face, I think, but it as I learned from the Ugg slippers (that I had to return because they didn't fit) it's a fab bookend for my hair!

Ooh, so pretty! I think 1 is my fave as well. The colors here are just so perfect. I think all of them work though. Love 4 and 5 too. Those boots are fabulous bookends for you--a gorgeous tan. SOOO awesome!

Really nice Suz!  And what time were you up and organized  this morning that you were able to put this all together and photograph?  :)

I quite like the first and last pictures here.  Nice to get some wear out of a leather jacket at this time of year , isn't it?  That window for use is so narrow it seems. I also love your high taupe-y boots !

Those tan boots were a funny find.

I got them on a tip from Parsley. She was hunting for black flat pointed toed boots. And found these (in black, obviously) at some ridiculously low price at one of those discount online places. I noticed they also came in taupe/tan and decided to take a risk after her review of the black ones. They are all leather with leather soles and surprisingly soft for something so inexpensive. They actually lace up the back. Tanya bought a pair as well.

But talk about a short wear window! These things don't get out to play very often. First off, I bought them last December and the snow had already arrived. Then, this fall, I've been sick for almost a month! Maybe I will try to wear them tonight just because!!

I wear my leather jackets in winter, too, Lisa -- especially the taupe one, which has knit-inset sleeves, making it feel more comfortable. (I like to push up my sleeves inside.)  I don't wear them when I'm working at home, but I will wear them when I'm travelling, and I layer them under my coats. The white one much less so, because it feels much more like an outdoor jacket to me -- although Sveta has the same jacket and wears hers indoors all the time. Inge has that jacket, too. I'm not sure how she most tends to wear it.

Great renditions Suz!  The boots are a perfect bookened to your hair and I agree the toffee would work well too for that. I really esp. love #4.

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

All excellent interpretations Suz. And that shade or radiant orchid really is stunning on you, plus you wear so many shades of taupe so well. You are inspiring me to play around with that colour more too (which is a bit of a problem, as I currently don't own any taupe-coloured tops, and my old taupe leather jacket is a disgrace - I think I need to look for a new one;-)

I think my favourites are 1 (love the crisp white jeans, surprise, surprise, and the contrast of the cool-coloured scarf with the slightly warmer colour of that fab jacket), and 4/5.

And waving to my white leather jacket twins:-) To answer your question Suz: I use it both as an indoor (whenever it's cool enough to wear a jacket inside - but like you, I don't wear it to work at home) and outdoor jacket (Summer and mild Spring days).

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Beuatiful options Suz, and howfun to see "our" tan boots out!  The first version is also my favorite.  I am off to post mine version of the ensemble.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 9 years ago

#1 is my favorite, it's looks fantastic... not to say the others aren't great, but the first one just strikes a perfect chord in my view....

  • replied 9 years ago

Oh, wow, those boots lace up at the back, how fab! Love#1 and #2 because of all the white, but I also love #4 with those great boots. Nice find!

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

4 great outfits. The first one is fabulous and to my eye the most obvious take on the inspiration, but others deserve a lot of attention too. I'd like to see the second one with somewhat softer scarf (or no scarf at all), I think the strong colours on the scarf draw my eye away from the rest of the outfit too quickly. Third one is excellent example of how the perception of the good fit had shifted and I agree that this one looks less modern especially standing next to the others. But, it is a great concept. Do you have anything white in more fluid fit - or how about just taking the topper off? Great shirt, jeans and boots are a classic look and I am curious what yours look like.
Ah, OK, now I see the jacket in 5th photo...how about trying that topper?

4/5 awesome. I find that the rest of the outfit balances the scarf much better than in the 2nd outfit, but now I wonder what only sweater, jeans and boots look like. Yes, I'm seriously on less is more kick, and the hemline and sleeves detailing are enough interest of me.

    p.s.
I hope you're better Suz. I've been rather out of action here lately and don't know the health update. You certainly look great. Hugs.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I love the first three.  Because I am now so used to oversized fits, the third actually looks fresh in a classic sort of way.  Yesterday I wore an outfit with a very similar silhouette, save for the tall boots, mine were ankle boots but also with the pants tucked in.  I felt a hint of renewal because it was simply a different silhouette from my usual.  (Which we were discussing in Una's thread a few days ago.)

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

Oh yes, Suz, I meant to ask earlier: how are you feeling, sweet lady? Do wrap up and take it easy tonight!

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

    gosh, i love both #1 & #2 equally.
i'm wondering if #3 would/could work with the shirt tails out? that would make it more current, but not sure about the zipper on the sweater, but maybe worth a try.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Inge, thank you! I am feeling much, much better. Almost 100% except I still get winded a bit more easily. So glad to be seeing the end of this illness.

Denise, that is a very interesting insight. Hmmm. I want to do a follow-up post to Una's when I get a chance. It was a real light-bulb moment for me. With possible long-term ripple effects, to mix metaphors!

ETA: kkards - I actually tried that and it didn't work because the items are both too fitted. But it is a great idea and was my initial hope, too!

  • carter replied 9 years ago

They all look great to me. #1 is the fave. Love the scarf in #4-5. I'm also with Denise on #3. It looks sporty, cute and comfy to me.

  • Elly replied 9 years ago

My favorites are 1 and 5 -- I like the contrast between the deeper taupe and the white.

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

Suz, these are all just fab! I especially love no. 1! And yay for the magic scarf!

  • Alassë replied 9 years ago

1 looks very Suz; 2 reads Suz-springy to me; 3 I like due to my style; 4-5's scarf is very eye-catching. All round, great job, Suz! It was a treat to see your interpretation on the forum.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

Suz -- yes -- a huge lightbulb moment for me as well.  I have several thoughts on this so look forward to your thread.  It's like I need a silhouette intervention -- get me out of cardigan, skinnies and booties!  Is it FFBO or signature style, fear of change or some form of OCD?

  • Tania replied 9 years ago

    All amazing.

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Suz, well done and I really like #2.  Those pants remind me of the grey AE's that Marley, Rae and I have.

Your color "variations" in all four are spectacular and show that you know your colors and can work with them at different levels and in placement.

  • Alexandra replied 9 years ago

All of these are fabulous! I especially like #1 (it seems closest to the inspiration picture) and #4 (there's something really special about how those colors interact, I had a hard time moving away from that picture).

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

Una's post? Sounds like another mandatory read. Pointer please.

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

Love the first outfit and that lilac (fuscia) is a great color on you. I also like outfit #5 with that great scarf.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Ornella -- it is here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....e-rotation

  • Sharon replied 9 years ago

I like all of these! #1 is my favourite, too but I think #2 would win without the scarf. I agree with Ornella about the colours distracting my eye. And really, the lavender is so pretty on you I think having it close to your face is good.

I see what you mean about the closer fit in #3, but I think it gives it a sporty vibe which is trendy in itself.

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

Do I have to name a favorite? I like them all! I'm just really puzzled when you say you get tired of your clothes, because every outfit is stunning and you make such a variety. Wonderful!

  • Robidi replied 9 years ago

They are all so pretty, but the first one is my favorite.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

My goodness but aren't you a quick study?! Fab renditions - all of them! My favs are #1 and #5 but they are all great. These colours certainly play well for you. Glad you're feeling better. So good to see you :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

That shade of lavender is beautiful on you. My favorite is also #1, followed closely by 4/5. Please take it easy and take time to heal those lungs.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

You look radiant in radiant orchid, or lilac! I really like what the grey scarf adds to the first outfit, and I love the jacket in that outfit. Great boots in 3, 4, and 5. Taupe and lilac (orchid) work so well together, don't they? Since you wear orchid so well, it makes sense that you would add some taupe accessories. Now that you're feeling better, you can shop for taupe items. :)

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

You are brilliant with what colors work for you Suz :). #1 is my absolute favorite but you couldn't go wrong with any of those really!

  • ElleH replied 9 years ago

Wow Suz, Angie would be proud. You really recreated her ensembles in style. I love them all. I'm glad you're starting to feel better.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

These are incredible outfits, Suz. You look so gorgeous in all of them. My favorite is 4/5, probably because it is seems so different for you, and that beautiful scarf just draws me in.

  • tulle replied 9 years ago

You and I must have similar coloring, Suz; when I read Angie's post, I thought, should I mention that taupe is a natural stand-in for toffee for cool-season types?  But your first picture is worth a thousand words--that outfit really hits it out of the park.  Thanks for a perfect demonstration with that beautiful leather jacket and really interesting back-laced boots, and thanks for the reminder that smaller, softer leather jackets can be worn under Winter coats!  I will be doing that with the jackets that got so little chance to shine during our truncated Autumn.
