Fast Fashion Fix? Alternative black moto

First of all, before I even start I need to warn you that I'm going to be prevailing on your generosity LOTS in the next few days. WritersFest is upon me and I have to figure out what to wear, plus I have a few new possible purchases for consideration. Thank you all in advance. I really appreciate your thoughts.

So...first up: I went to the mall today because I needed to get something at the drugstore, and just happened to wander into H&M . And lo and behold, what did I discover but a little waxed denim moto. Is it leather? No. But....here it is. Let me know what you think. Can this be my "starter" moto until I find the perfect one?

For reference, here's the original moto, still with tags on: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....sonal-pick

Oh - and the sleeves are the right length!

This looks fab, Suz. I think buying a "starter" moto is a great idea. In fact, I did this last year with a faux leather moto from The Limited.

    So cute!

  • Debbie replied 11 years ago

I love this on you! Seems like it would have great versitility.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, although this is not a substitute for leather, there is no reason not to add it to your closet. It looks fab, I see NO doubts about any fit issues or alterations, and you look positively over the moon. I don't see this as a fast fix but an alternative that will continue to play in your closet even after you find THE leather jacket. Plus this will be much easier to layer over.

    Yes?

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

I love this. It looks perfect in every way and seems lots easier to wear than a leather jacket--especially indoors.

  • Claudia replied 11 years ago

That's a total home run out of the ball park, Suz. You look fantastic and this will be so, so versatile. LOVE it!

  • replied 11 years ago

Suz, it's the perfect solution in addition to the leather moto out there waiting for you!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

It looks like it has gold hardware which I like even more.

  • Inge replied 11 years ago

    What Una said:-)

FWIW: I do really love the real leather jacket on you too, Suz.

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

Yes, I think so! i *love* waxed denim and this one looks great. And drat, why was this not in my H&M (that I saw) last week? I was looking for this exact thing--a simple, fast fashion black moto to get me through the season.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Oh- THANK you!!!

I'm so glad it meets approval. It's actually a size up from ideal, but luckily I have wide shoulders so it fits there...and I can now layer under AND over! Yes!

Anna, you're right - gold hardware, and I like it, too - I think it plays well with my hair.

I am going to take the Zara jacket back and wait for the perfect leather jacket to show up. In the meantime, this will be a little workhorse!

I am everlastingly grateful to Angie for encouraging me to try the Zara jacket because she reminded me of the value of such an iconic piece and I just know the right one will be out there for me eventually.

Ariadne: check H&M this week. I am almost certain this is a brand new item. It cost $49. Quite a lot more reasonable than actual leather. And I think it is a BBQ situation!

I love it! It looks great on you. And I really love the idea of getting your feet wet with a smaller purchase first so that you can feel happy and 100% confident when you go to buy your real one. Moto jackets are always going to be around. You'll be able to find one when you are ready to commit. In the meantime, you're able to wear this and figure out how essential it is to your style. Kind of like my placeholder statement jacket. Hooray for a placeholder! (And I am so grateful to know that I'm not the only person analyzes and worries before taking a style leap!)

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

Yay, Suz! The jacket looks fab and looks like it fits great, too. I think having this will take the pressure off finding the leather moto of your dreams, sort of like a test drive and then a back up jacket when you do find IT!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Looks great on you & as Carole said it takes the pressure off - which is a good thing.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

KILLER! Go for it :). No sleeve alterations required - even better.

I'm so glad that you have a little black moto, Suz. You really needed one!

Also, there is room for many leather and pleather jackets. You have your life time ahead of you.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Yay! Thanks, Angie. You are so right. I'll be showing a possible WritersFest outfit incorporating it.

This actually feels like the right choice - the fit is better, it's a lot easier on my pocketbook, and I think for now I don't need the leather, per se. As soon as the right one turns up, though, you can bet I will be pouncing on it!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

...Until you find the perfect one! This is very cute and you wear it so well, but I hope owning it doesn't stop you from looking for the perfect moto, because I think you would really enjoy a leather moto jacket.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

There you go! Great strategy and all sorted :)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Great idea! I got a starter crop zip cotton moto 2 summers back and loved it. (subsequent attempts to dye and re dye it ruined it - boo). But that little $15 let me know I will get plenty of wear out of my crop blush MuuBaa.
This fits great, and the bonus of wash and wear ability is awesome.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

This is fabulous on you Suz! Talk about a perfect fit - everywhere! Love it and can hardly wait to see it styled.

  • bj1111 replied 11 years ago

if i had this, i would not look for the same style in leather any time soon. i would look for a burgundy leather in a different silhouette.

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Thumbs up from me, Suz! The perfect solution until the right leather one comes along. I much prefer the fit of this one, especially through the back. Well done!

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

    Yep! Hooray, and have fun!

  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago

Looks great! A fabric moto gives you different possibilities- in warmer weather, with lighter weight dresses, or, since fit has more ease, with heavier sweaters. sounds like you can embrace those to your advantage and still have room for leather Shen it comes along.

  • unfrumped replied 11 years ago

I mean WHEN it comes along!

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Love this on you! To my eye the waxed denim seems very fashion forward.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love this! The jacket and the strategy. When the right leather moto comes, you will know exactly how to style it and how the look fits into your life.

FWIW, I actually like this jacket better than the Zara. The gold tone hardware and 3/4 sleeves make it feel more feminine, artsy, and dressy - less 50s punk tomboy for sure.

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

    Hooray, go for it!:-)

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Yay! I have been thinking the same thing. I have a Pinterest board for leather jackets and non-leather (including non-faux leather) is included as well. In fact, even coats. Just so I don't get tunnel vision in my quest to find THE perfect leather jacket. I'm trying to think globally. Lol.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Excellent choice Suz. A black moto does not need to be leather. I have a wool one, also with gold zippers, and wear it at least once a week during the cold seasons. The fit is gorgeous and the price can't be beat.

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Yay for a great find, Suz! I love how flattering that collar is on your slender neck.

  • replied 11 years ago

Perfect! And you won't have to worry about sweating in it indoors. A lot more versatile too as you could even wear it in the summer on airplanes, etc. where it's just a little chilly but leather is too warm. Yay!
