Gilet and Booties, (Items I keep but seldom wore...)

ETA: I should have tagged this under Monday's blog post. Not sure how to do that post facto. Sorry!

What are some of my most loved items? Rag & Bone gilet and dressy booties. What are some of my least worn items? You guessed it.

Pleading guilty here to buying a few things for my fantasy life. Or rather, my fantasy climate. But this year, I'm living in that climate. Time to give the orphans some love!

A few days ago, Angie gently reminded me that this is gilet season in the PNW. Today, I had a lunch date with a friend and shopping, and so I finally had a chance to wear the precious. It was perfect in every way. I've had this gilet now for 3 fall seasons and until today have only worn it a total of about 6 times. The joy per wear was very, very high and each time I wore it, it was the perfect item to be able to put on -- but the cost per wear was astronomical and I did feel some guilt about that! Never mind. It's going to get a ton of wear in my new climate. It's actually surprisingly practical! I layered it over a merino sweater which in turn was layered over a cami. I could also layer over a denim jacket or leather jacket for additional insulation.

I also broke out the new NAS Aquatalia booties for the first time, and my new NAS scarf (which I've already worn several times). The booties are superb. Super comfortable. But they did dye my leg blue! (I was wearing sockettes, not hose.)

Bag is from NAS several years ago -- still going strong.

I made some purchases today that I'll share later this weekend in another thread. Happy Thanksgiving to Canadian Fabbers!

It's exciting that you're living in a climate that is so flexible now! I'm sure this is the first of many wears it'll get in your real-life fantasy life.

The scarf is a great color with your hair and lipstick.

Gorgeous Suz! What a great outfit for a lunch date and shopping.  I can see that the R & B gilet will get a lot of wear in the PNW.  Love the colour combination with your hair.

A gorgeous layered look! So glad you’ll be able to get some wear out of the gilet this year!

This looks super! I didn’t think of pairing the gilet with wide leg crops, but now I am going to play around......we are bootie and gilet twins! I hope you repeat this outfit. It is one of my favorites for you!

Temps back here have been variable and ranging from the 60’s to mid 70’s F. I am almost ready to pull mine out. I find it works best in the 40-60 F range.

This was such a thought provoking post for me.  I genuinely want to say a lot more, but the coffee has not kicked in.  I assure you that I will pondering "buying for fantasy climates" later today.  I have certainly been guilty of that .... but you solved the dilemma!  Move!  YAY.  I'm so happy for you.

Gorgeous and perfect!  I'm glad to see the gilet again, and your scarf was made for it.

Gorgeous! I love the proportions and the colors.

I had a similar wool gilet but eventually gave it away because I couldn’t figure out how to use it. Wrong climate, I think!

KILLER GORGEOUS, Suz. Very 2018. Looking polished, chic, on trend and elegant as ever. Fab burgundy complement too. Aren't wider legs fabulous?

Are you in Victoria or Vancouver?

Those wardrobe orphans are no more! Much better shoulder season weather on the West Coast. Been milking our gilet too - until I got my new cape.....

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Angie, I'm in Vancouver, which is a bit cooler and rainier than Victoria. We are not sure how long we will stay here -- it's a year at least with a possibility of longer, depending on family needs.

Thanks for sharing my excitement! Sterling, I had to laugh at the thought of moving especially to fix a fashion problem. That's definitely getting one's priorities straight, right? ;)

I love wider legs right now. Much like Lisa P I had an epiphany the other day. It wasn't Cindy Crawford who sparked mine but a more ordinary young woman wearing a 3/4 length plaid wool coat over wide crops and booties. (Hey, this is Vancouver. It was pouring, so she also had an umbrella.;) ) I took one look at her and one look at my own legs encased in skinnies and thought, of my skinnies, FEH! I'm DONE with you!

Of course, I'm not really done. I'll still wear skinnies, especially in winter. They're too practical to get rid of. And if we do move back to Ontario they're a necessity. But for now I'm having fun with the new silhouette.

Wide leg crops were another item that had a short season in my former climate. I figured out how to layer with long underwear and/or tights, but they are less comfortable that way and more bulky. Plus, there was the cold ankle issue. But wonder of wonders -- in this climate (at least in the transitional seasons) it's not seasonally confused to wear crops with booties and a small gap showing the skin. My tall sock booties fill the gap but some of my other booties (even the higher shaft ones) only almost meet it. Now I can have bare skin (if warm enough) or knee highs and still feel insulated.

I find the gilet works with straight skirts and many flared skirts. It works with wide legs, culottes, and with slim or skinny crops.

Fantastic! Your happiness factor shines right through. All the elements of this outfit work together so harmoniously!

You mentioned in Angie’s challenge thread that you had done a big edit pre-move. Personally I would love to hear more details about that — commenting here bc I’m not sure if you would see my response on the other thread.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Sarah, thank you -- I have written a post about it! :)

  • Karie replied 5 years ago

You look fantastic as always. Glad you’re getting more wear out of that gorgeous gilet!

  • replied 5 years ago

    I love a good epiphany ;)

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

You look amazing, Suz. LOVE this outfit, especially the gilet combined with the wide cropped jeans and dressy boots - fantastic silhouette. And of course the beautiful scarf - bag combo with it. You are so stylish!

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

Love this outfit! Scarf plus gilet plus jeans plus booties all fabulous. Weather is not such a bad reason to move actually. It affects us every single day. Just a thought :) !
