(Highly modified) shorts suit

Before the trend was even a whisper, way back in 2019, I had some fun playing with versions of this look. For "shorts" I used my knee length sarong shorts, which look like a skirt from the front. For jacket, I wore my thrifted Paul Smith linen blazer, a much beloved summer item.

The day I wore this outfit I also tried on (in various stores -- I do not own jacket 2 and 3) what were then the new longer jackets so you can see how it looked with those. The proportions are not great for me and would have been even harder to manage with a completely flat shoe -- these sandals have a 2 inch heel. Even so, I didn't mind either look.

I will definitely wear the first version again this year.

I love # 1!  Something about the drape of the linen blazer with the shorts, it really works.

Nicely done! Love the blazer in #1 with blue/pale blue sandals - perfect.
The longer jackets are more difficult to do for a petite frame - I'm 5'4" and starting to feel overwhelmed in longer blazers.

That's the kind of look I could see myself wearing. Thanks for the great example, Suz! I actually like the middle blazer on you, too.

I second Firecracker’s comment, I think you may have written off the second jacket without cause.

Thanks! That second jacket was a consignment store find I decided not to buy for a bunch of reasons, but I was tempted! Not so much to wear with the shorts but because it was a lovely item. I can't remember why I left it. It might have had a flaw. Anyway -- I agree, the longer length jackets are harder to manage when you are short -- it's just tough to get the proportions right. I always feel a bit more myself in a shorter, cheekier jacket. I do like a classic blazer length as well as long as the waist is a bit nipped in. And the long double breasted versions are fun but more work to style for me.

The first version is fab,l love all your blazers but like you feel the proportions of the first outfit are the best.l think those long double breasted blazers ,although they are on trend can be very difficult to style, they can be a bit swamping.

I especially partial to the first look, but they are all pretty darned fab if you ask me! Conservative meets edgy. I like!!

Rocking it with separates, YOUR way! I love it :)

#2 and #3 are more on trend right now. You look GREAT in these proportions! I see fab.

And yes, the proportions in #1 adhere to your personal figure flattering priorities - and it's awesome on you.

Suz, this looks great! You know what? When I thought about the blog post this morning a bit after I responded to it (not loving it much for my personal style), I thought that maybe our sarong shorts would be the way I could wear this ensemble. But what blazer? Well, perhaps it could work with my Zadig & Voltaire skull blazer! It would be navy and black, and the blazer has blue in the design. I might have to try this.

  • Suz replied 2 years ago

Yes, Janet -- try it! I think it will work for you great! Footwear will be fun to play with, too. But these shorts definitely make the whole prospect more do-able for the likes of us, meaning those of us who prefer not to bare our thighs too much in public. ;).

Nice example of how this style can work! I like the long blazers but agree the proportion would take a little bit to get used to.

  • rachylou replied 2 years ago

I agree with Angie - all three look fab!!

  • Aquamarine replied 2 years ago

You are rocking that first look! I also like the last blazer/outfit. Something about the proportions work better to my eye than the middle outfit.

  • Jaime replied 2 years ago

Love! And I think #2 and #3 look fabulous. May have to copycat!

  • lyn67 replied 2 years ago

Love your own version in nr 1 but love the other 2 looks, too(!!) just think will be more easy to do these with some tan sandals/mules/flats...just my 2 cents.

Fab! Thanks for sharing these! I love all three looks, but especially your jacket (that light blue is so gorgeous on you and the proportions are perfect), and the double-breasted jacket you tried on (looks very chic to me).
