Kimono stylings

Thanks to all your excellent ideas this morning, I spent a fun half hour in my closet. Here are some potential stylings for my black Biba kimono or happi, as Mochi explained.

Let me know your thoughts!

1/2: Angie suggested high neck top, BF (my slouchy skinnies, in this case), heels. Could also try with white jeans -- just forgot to put them on.

3: more casual version of same.

4: Joy suggested a sheath dress. Trying with flat sandals.

5. Denim skirt, wedges, BR textured MadMen shell.

6: Leith trousers and an orphaned cummerbund waist top.

7: Double dose of Asia -- Mandarin collared fuchsia shirt with Leith trousers. Could also try the fuchsia crops once they are hemmed. With or without this top.

8: With cobalt tube skirt, cobalt T, and leopard pumps.

Will be interested to know if any of these work or if it's jjust a no-go for me.

I'm easy, I love them all:-)
The one with the mandarin collar shirt is my least favourite, somehow the neckline seems to interfere with the kimono silhouette? Love the idea of the jacket with the track pants though! (I suggested this on Nancy's thread:-), and this shorter style really works with jeans, skirts AND dresses. Fab!

I love it with jeans! I like the floral top underneath, that seems to go with the oriental feel of the jacket. I also really like the stripes too.

Thank you, Inge. I agree about the Mandarin. I almost didn't show it but thought it's good to show the misses, too. I must run back to check more comments on Mochi's thread. By the way, thank you SO much for your top shopping suggestions. I'll have an update later on.

I esp. like the combination of the pattern of #4's dress and the black kimono.  That's exactly the kind of patterned tank I was thinking might look good with it and jeans. Next favorite is #1 - really fun casual chic look.

I can't remember the fabric content of the kimono but wonder if there is a way to soften it up?

Of course, Suz, my pleasure! Can't wait to read your update.

And couldn't agree more, it's very helpful to see all your styling ideas, so thank you for posting all the different looks.

I think it is 100% poly, Texstyle! It is pretty indestructible. It has a kind of inbuilt structure of its own. ha! Thanks for your thoughts, and also yours, Rae. It felt pretty good with jeans and with the denim skirt. Better than with a dress.

Love it all...especially the non jean versions.

    7 is my favourite!

I love them all, Suz, and I particularly like the jeans versions. I think white jeans would be fab, too - try that with #1!

ALL KILLER!! How did you make the tie go away?? It has all fallen into place sans the tie :)

    *faints*

    Forgot the helmet :(

    *ouch*

I love all of these, Suz, especially #1-2 and #6.  Kimono jackets are a great way to dress up an outfit in a fun way...and how lucky you had one in your closet!

I think it's pretty fantastic. I think I see the first and last pics as most *you.*

Ooh! So exciting! I am really happy because I was almost ready to purge this, yet felt so sad about that.

A friend persuaded me to buy it last winter and I really liked it in the store. Then I just never figured out how to wear it.

I was imagining it more as a winter dressy piece. Now it's a summer any time piece! And makes a fab lightweight jacket.

Angie, I just took the sash belt off! It goes on with some loops (that are removable). So really it can be worn with or without.

But for now, I can bandage your poor head with that silky belt. I hope you recover soon!

I just had to add...it has gone in my suitcase for this week's trip! Visiting my mother and taking my daughter (who has a school holiday) to see Shakespeare at Stratford!

Scrolling through the photos I found myself thinking, I like that, and that, and that, etc : ) The shirt in 1/2 reminds me of the Willow Ware china pattern.
You sure have some great looks for your kimono now, Suz, show it off on your upcoming trip!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You must keep this beauty! My favorites are 1/2, 5, & 6 but all are fab. Angie is right about styling. I'd love to see this topper with white jeans too.

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago
Ooooh, the kimono with the rolled up boyfriends!

But #5 makes me melt as well.

Actually, they are all so fun and organic--nothing contrived about a single one of these.
  • Suz replied 10 years ago
Yes, that's the risk, isn't it, Nancy? That you will end up looking as if you are in costume. But once I took the belt off, I felt a lot better. I can really see your short one styled in all these ways.

Boyfriends and slouchy skinnies and Kimonos!  A match made in heaven!

Now, That's a good job Suz! Love them all, perfect illustration to Angie's post!! beautiful, different and interresting!:-)

My favourite is #6. I would also like to see a silky oversized blouse worn untucked and falling below the hemline of the kimono.

  • ModeGekkie replied 10 years ago
I think this shape looks really good on you.

My favourites are 1/2 and 3 for casual and 8 for dressy.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago
Wow - these are all great!  It makes me want to consider this silhouette.  Hmm...  My favorites are 1/2, 5 and 6 :)
  • teri replied 10 years ago
    they are all super fab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Elizabeth P replied 10 years ago
Oh, how awesome!  Love it with jeans, and my prefernce is not with the higher necklines in 6 and 7.  Enjoy Stratford!
  • Mamavalveeta03 replied 10 years ago

#'s 3, 4, 5, and 8 are my absolute FAVES! I never would have thought of doing stripes, and it totally works! Adorbs!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Love this! I especially love #1, 4 and 8 but they are all terrific!
