Pantone 2020 the Festive Way

Pantone's classic blue may be a "safe" choice after the radiant orchids, emeralds, and corals of recent years. But for me, it's still "true blue." Yesterday I met a friend for a glass of wine and then we went on to a publisher's party. Blue to the rescue, along with some festive red and my consignment dressy coat.

Temps were uncertain so I brought a sweater just in case, but ended up keeping it in my bag and simply wearing the scarf as a shawl. The scarf is sparkly -- it was a Secret Santa gift from a YLF friend years ago and remains my fave holiday accessory. I get compliments every time I wear it! (No Find).

First festive outfit of the season. I like how it came together out of the odds and ends of my closet. Nothing new this year except the jeans.

Looks great suz! The colors are perfect and it makes me wish I could wear earrings.

Totally your colour, Suz! You look smashing. I couldn't live without deep blues either. Love it paired with burgundy, as you show in 3 and 5. Also perfect with black/white. And it is a perfect foil for golden browns and mustardy shades too...

I think I may nod to the colour of the year by adding dark rinse denim back into my wardrobe. For the past couple of years I've worn either black jeans or mid/light washes, but I'm missing the casual polish of classic dark blue denim.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this look, Suz!! Who says classic blue has to be stodgy or conservative. Super cute styling of all the pieces. Your darling short hairstyle and lovely smile finish the look to perfection.

Super pretty  look, Suz.  I haven't worn those jeans since early fall - not sure what happened there. Maybe I should put them on today ?  That coat was one of your best finds ever !

Gorgeous festive outfit,Suz. That consignment coat is spectacular!

Blue is my black, so I’m loving that Panetone chose it for their color this year. Hopefully we’ll see lots of it at retail.

You do blue so well!! Smashing, Suz!!

  • karen13 replied 5 years ago

Well the Snow Queen coat is icing on the very lovely cake. You are a rhapsody in blue. And I love the burgundy/blue combo, one of my faves.

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

You’re simply electric in blue! :)

Great outfits and that snow white coat is to die for! Almost wish for SoCa  winters to be colder so I can get something as fab as your coat and wear it now ( not going to happen ;) ). You look picture perfect.

  • Liesbeth replied 5 years ago

Hiw fun to be able to create a new festive outfit out of your existing wardrobe! You look wonderful.

  • Synne replied 5 years ago

How beautiful you look! Are you a writer? You look so interesting, alluring. Like you have a great story to tell. As I'm sure you do! This is style done right, to elevate and accent. I am taking notes!!

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

That coat is magic on you! I love all the components of your outfit, but the coat knocks it out of the park and so appropriate for the festive season.

Having the “odds and ends” to be able to come up with such a great outfit is my ideal closet. Each of these pieces is special—the peplum waist, short & wide pant legs, and longer cardi are each distinctive and have their own rules for combining. Well done on pulling them all together so beautifully!

  • chouette22 replied 5 years ago

Love it from top to bottom. I am as ready as you are for next year since I have a LOT of blues in my closet as well.

  • Inge replied 5 years ago

This shade of blue is definitely one of "your" colours, Suz (but you already know that;-) So is that beautiful burgundy. You look amazing head to toe!

  • Gretchen replied 5 years ago

So great to see a fab look come from shopping your closet. The blue and burgundy combo looks fantastic on you!

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

All your best colors and the party in a coat coat! You look smashing! Nice scarf versatility too!

  • Jenni NZ replied 5 years ago

That coat makes me want a winter Christmas. Nothing else about Northern Hemisphere winters does! YLF Suz.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

Ha, Jenni, so funny! I get it.

Honestly, I feel as if I have the best of both worlds, here in mild Vancouver. It is SO MUCH EASIER to dress than in Ontario winters!! Eastern friends, you have my commiseration and sympathy. I don't like the dark rain but my heavens, I LOVE the warmer temps.

  • Jenni NZ replied 5 years ago

In our country we do sometimes do what we call “mid-winter Christmas”- in June, around the solstice. Then we can cook the hot foods in the right climate. I suspect it may be becoming a little less common over time as our colonialism lessens and we embrace the foods of a summer Christmas more, as the older generation slowly dies off.
Although I don’t entirely know... went to a mall for my haircut this afternoon and all the decorative trees were snow-tipped! Crazy.

Beautiful Suz.  Blue and burgundy are so flattering on you.  I love those jeans.  Your wardrobe works so well.

  • Glory replied 5 years ago

Looking gorgeous Suz. I completely agree with Style Fan that burgundy and blue work wonderfully for you.

  • unfrumped replied 5 years ago

That is a great way to wear your “ Russian princess coat”- over a column of rich deep colors.

  • Column replied 5 years ago

Another spectacular Suz look, the kind I would pin if I had a pinterest board. :)

Question: If you were to describe a style moniker based on just the sleeveless version of this outfit (no layering) in isolation, what would it be? To Carla`s request for updating YLF profiles: I really don`t know how to describe my style. In images, this one is it! I tend toward Duchess Kate in color, fit, and the best quality that I can afford (not hers, of course), but even she is sometimes too staid for my taste (crew necklines, long sleeves, skinny jeans). I like Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, and some Bacall—but I can`t wear the latter as well as Carla. And I like to add liberal doses of color and currency to all of these. Just curious as to your keen eye and verbiage, Suz. I also wear the long column earring as a favorite facial frame, so this outfit ticks that box for me, too!

  • The Cat replied 5 years ago

Gorgeous outfits! And you look happy and radiant.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

You look beautiful, Suz. How is the job market in IT in Vancouver? DS1 is looking for a new job after a buy out of the company he worked for in Tokyo. I think he would like Vancover. His Japanese girlfriend might even consent to go to Canada but refuses to live in the US because of gun laws.

  • RobinF replied 5 years ago

Great outfit! Love the top, it makes the whole thing more festive and that coat! Best buy ever!

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

OMG that coat!!!! It makes all the difference, really.  Then I love your subdued column of color(ink blue) but playing with textures (jeans and jaquard) +showing a little skin- is always very very  classy to me-and love the way you wraped that shawl around your shoulder. Just curious which veteran  YLF member's Santa was?:-)
