Red & Bling at Home and Away

I wore the same red outfit to a recent Hannukah/ Holiday party (live music!) and for a festive dinner we cooked for my cousin and her husband six days later. Casual but festive and fun.

Love the Colettes! They are so comfy and easy to wear.

Love the Garçonne shirts from J. Crew. I now have 3 of them and am enjoying them so much I would love to add more. They have a fun cut -- slightly oversized in the body, with long cuffs meant to be worn scrunched.

The Bling is very old Banana Republic.

I'll probably wear this again on Christmas Day. It's such a fun and easy outfit.

Oh, and I finally got my hair cut -- it had been more than 3 months and I was going insane!! Decided to keep the asymmetrical longer fringe in front this time.

Love your festive outfit and your fringe.

Another cute and festive outfit. Gotta love when a new item becomes a workhorse straight away. Hair looks great and I see you’ve got a little photo bomber in your shots.

Terrific with a giant T! Love you in this so much, Suz! XO

More love for you festive outfit and your asymmetric hair. You look festive but comfortable.

I love this! Nice contrast between casual and bling!

Very nice! Is it hard to get into your hairdresser or something? Do you travel to Vancouver for your haircuts?!
ETA: just checked Irina’s thread about what she pays for. I see you do travel. Wow, that’s dedication to a particular stylist.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Oh, Jenni, I love my stylist so much. She is such a lovely person and does such a great job.

I tried someone in Victoria during the pandemic but in the end I didn't like his cuts or his politics. :(

I have other reasons to travel to Vancouver regularly so in theory it should never be a problem to get there every 8 weeks. But sometimes in practice it doesn't work out, what with work and family obligations here. The trip to the mainland is a pleasant one but if going on transit it takes half a day so it requires planning.

Love the outfit, hair is especially good! I like the touch of the blingy necklace. I am becoming more attracted to bling lately. Not sure what that is about, but it definitely is working for you!

  • Jenni NZ replied 4 months ago

Oh yes we had flown in but did the ferry trip back to Vancouver just after I missed seeing you and it is quite the trip. Nice, but an effort nonetheless.

    YLF!

That is a festive and fun look. The plaid and bling are delightful together.

  • Bonnie replied 4 months ago

Love your outfit and the bling makes it even more special. Happy Holidays!

You wear red so well.  I love your hair cut.  Happy Holidays!

  • Olive Green replied 4 months ago

You have nailed the holiday outfit. I love that it’s nice but not precious.

YLF in your red outfits-and believe is so different in the sea of predictable  blacks metallics! Enjoy your Christmass/Hanuka parties and have fun!

  • kkards replied 4 months ago

Perfect.  This outfit is the right blend of dressy and casual.  Fab

  • kellygirl replied 4 months ago

Gorgeous in red! You look so festive and pretty!!

  • The Cat replied 4 months ago

What a great casual elegant outfit! Red is perfect for you, and the bling echoes your striking hair.

Excellent example of the magic that happens when two semi-casual items are worn as a column of colour: They automatically makes the outfit more elegant.

  • Janet replied 4 months ago

Red is so fantastic on you! Love the blingy addition, and your haircut looks fab!

I’m a big fan of everything here, including your longer fringe. You’ve always worn button-down blouses so well, Suz, and the Colettes are wonderful. I have a pair for summer and for winter.

  • RobinF replied 4 months ago

Ooh, love it! You look so nice in red.

  • Roberta replied 4 months ago

A classic and fabulous holiday look! I can appreciate your devotion to your stylist because mine moved, and I now drive an hour each way to get my haircut. She is worth it.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Thank you, everyone. I highly recommend both these items for the holidays and beyond. The Colettes are cozy and the shirt is crisp but does not wrinkle easily (or the wrinkles do not show).

I'm hoping to put together a few different at home outfits, but honestly, this one is so fun to wear that I will be tempted to stick with it!

You and the way you combine the various pieces of your wardrobe are a never ending inspiration for me. Whether it be red, blue, white or silver, you have mastered the art of " what looks good on you".The red outfit is stunning yes, but it's the way you've styled it with the turned up collar, the bling, and the patent boots that makes it outstanding. Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing, I have a size question about the colette pants. Did you buy them in a petite or a regular size? I bought a regular size pair last summer and had to get them hemmed in order to be a cropped style. Thank you for sharing your style journey and your photos over the years. I always look forward to your posts.

You looks absolutely splendid Suzie!Just right for casual festivities. You are such a style inspiration on this forum, long may that continue.

  • Irina replied 4 months ago

Very festive! Reminds me of JCrew of Jenna Lyons reign - casual plus bling.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Aww, thanks, Cardiff Girl. Right back at you! I am still thinking of a set of posts you did in the spring. Also, your roses.

CarolB thank you for your kind words! Re the Colettes, I bought regular cropped but not petite. (Some versions of the pant come in cropped or  full length versions. I'm not sure about the velvet.)

I'm about 5'4" with shorter legs. As you see, these are still cropped on me but not super cropped, if you know what I mean. An inch above the ankle bone only. On the model they are considerably shorter.

I rarely try true petites because I have a long rise and with rare exceptions, they tend not to fit me as well. Sometimes I will buy "short" if that's an option. But frequently those will be just a bit too short to be full length on me, so if that is what I'm after, I go for regular length and hem it to where I need it.

Brilliant Suz - this is wonderful on you! I am pleased you felt as good as you look.

  • slim cat replied 4 months ago

Love the outfit - especially fab accessory - kitty ;-) !

  • Laurie replied 4 months ago

Suz! You and your accomplice look festive and amazing. Those pants are just super on you with all the outfits you have styled. And I love the black patent Eccos! As expected, I'm getting good use out of the bone/black ones.
Tracking on your explanation of short vs petite. Even though my 5'4" is a little more legs and shorter waist, and I prefer a lower rise, petites rarely work for me either. And I like that 1" above ankle crop length too.
It's nice to find that go-to combination and have a plan for a season. Makes things so much easier.
    Enjoy, enjoy!

Festive and Fantastic all-around! Thanks for sharing... you've inspired me!

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 4 months ago

My verdict is “cute”, with a dash of “super”!

Suz, you are super-cute!  Happy Holidays!

  • Bijou replied 4 months ago

Suz, this is one of your best looks, you wear those Garcon shirts so well. It is also a treat to see your beautiful cat. I can understand travelling to the right hairdresser, I have had some horror experiences before, it is such a pain to grow out a bad cut.

  • Karie replied 4 months ago

Red is definitely a good color on you, and your hair looks fantastic.

  • Cee replied 4 months ago

I see you've failed worse at the Christmas Goth look than Angie did !

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

I totally blew the goth holiday look, for sure!

  • Cee replied 4 months ago

I done some researching... They actually DID like colours !!

Fierce, ruthless, murdering, cleave you through sons-a *bleeps*, but they were at least bright !

  • Carol replied 4 months ago

So much texture--wow. Patent, fleece (?), velvet. And a shiny, chunky necklace. I love how playful, yet put together this look is. Happy Hannukah/holidays!

  • Carol replied 4 months ago

    flannel. I meant flannel.

  • Suz replied 4 months ago

Cee, you have made my day!! I should print that picture out.

Carol, not flannel -- just cotton poplin. But you are right, it's a texture/ shine rich outfit!
