Succumbed to the lure of an Angie pick!

Uh...how many sandals do I own? (Quick count: 4) How many months do I actually wear sandals?  (Um...fewer months than I already have pairs, in most years.)

And guess what found its way into my shopping cart just now? This Angie recommended sandal.

In my defence:

  1. I found a Canadian online retailer selling it for less money than Zappos! (Unheard of.)
  2. I know it will fit and be comfortable, because I have the sister shoe from last year in brown and grey, and it was a workhorse for me. I am still wearing it (I figure it should last until the end of this season) and I find that cross-strap style quite flattering on my foot.
  3. I didn't have a colourful sandal this year (only neutrals).

I plan to retire a pair of red flats that are no longer comfortable. One in/ one out.

Meanwhile, I still really, really want white sandals or pointy toed pumps, and if I find them I am retiring the ill-fitting pale gold Clarks.

Please tell me I'm not a wasteful, spendthrift fool. And remind me how I can wear these lovelies!

My plans so far:

  • With my fuchsia jackets! :-)
  • With white jeans and shorts and bright tops (oops...I see a wardrobe hole for a fuchsia or rhubarb or raspberry top...)
  • With my bright pink clutch and a white on white or all-navy outfit.
  • With my cobalt skirt and top and my pink clutch (which also works as a cross body, by the way).

Note: the Zappos reviewer says they are great for wide feet. My foot is not wide, just average. But I do have a high arch, so all in all, I'd call my foot "medium volume."  I found that the strap (adjustable on my version, and elasticized on this new one) means that it holds you in quite well regardless. That is what gives it stability and makes it so comfortable.

Great choice, Suz! I think this will be a perfect sandal for you!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Suz- no spendthrift fool in my opinion!
Those sandals look great for you, and hopefully will go with lots in your wardrobe and provide a nice pop of color.

4 pairs of sandals is not excessive at all.
    Enjoy!

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

I love them! Such happy colors, I hope they work out. I like all your outfit ideas!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You have my blessing, Suz. And if the sandals don't work out - you have the option to return :). I like the outfits you've created in your head!

You look wonderful in #2. xo

  • chewyspaghetti replied 10 years ago

    Those look great!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

very nice. I cannot speak to number of sandals since mine far outweigh yours and we are in the same neighborhood. My vote is yes because the good ones are hard to find and our toes need to enjoy all the good weather while we can. I think these will work for several seasons.
Can you share the canadian online retailer? always good to know

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

these are just so fun, i think they deserve a spot in your closet

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Great choice. Well thought out. So, umm, if I told you I have 12 pairs of sandals and live in a similar climate . . . I just love sandals, and I have worked very hard to not snap up every one of Angie's picks. I am saving that for boots and booties this fall ;)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Oh, you are all making me feel so much better. The truth is, I had more pairs but purged a bunch at the beginning of this season. And I think I'm slowly learning what actually works for me, which is sometimes a bit different than I might imagine. I really wanted the SE Trina's but they hit me in such a bad spot on the ankle and hurt.

Glory, the store where I found them is Shoetopia.  Mostly comfort shoes, but some brands that I like.

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

Great find, Suz! I am sure these will get a lot of wear.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Great sandal, love the colours. I have a high arch too & find cross-over straps are really comfy :)

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Suz- I hope they work for you.  They are so smile inducing!  I had the same interest in these sandals, researched them and got distracted by fun family activities.

That brand works very well on my feet, with nice cushioning and consistent sizing in shoes, boots, and booties, in my experience.  They are usually well-made and my medium width, but narrower heeled, fussy feet are very happy in them.  I may have to try their sandals and these would be the ones.  Another thing tipping the scales is that I just treated myself to a fab bag in orange... a color I can not wear much, but like as an accent with white, cobalt, denim, grays, etc.  This site is getting very dangerous.  Thanks for reminding me to follow up and good luck with them.  They seem just right for what you have in mind.

Just saw you have the sister shoe. No brainer to add this to the rotation.

Suz - like you, I have more sandals than I suppose I technically need given our short summers. But you and I have both discussed before how we wear the heck out of them for that brief period. I think this is an incredibly intelligent purchase. You know they'll be comfortable based on your experience with the brand and the colour combination will work with so much of your wardrobe.

I also agree with your thoughts about the Clarks sandals. If they aren't working for you comfort wise, then definitely put them aside when you find a suitable replacement.  Sometimes we gotta just chalk it up to a mistake and move on.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Too many shoes is wasteful? Does not compute! I love the colors on these and the style looks great on you too. I hope I get to take you on the shoe tour of Tel Aviv though!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I admire your discipline and know you have carefully considered your options. We need more sandals because they get more contact with sweaty bare feet than boots and cooler weather shoes. How's that for enabling?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Joy, I can't decide whether to award you therapy, comedy, solution, boost, or wisdom points for that comment! You deserve them all.

But in all honesty, I think you are right. And more and more I see how the right footwear makes and the wrong footwear breaks an outfit. Plus, these are likely to be super comfortable, a big inducement.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Suz, I think you are totally justified in having more sandals. Your climate is probably quite similar to ours, and there are three months of the year when I wear sandals almost every single day. It's just too sticky and uncomfortable to wear anything else. I have 5 pairs of sandals, if that makes you feel any better (I just succumbed and purchased Vix's ecco's). I absolutely adore those Reikers, and they do make wonderfully comfortable shoes. Enjoy. And just think: in the winter you're wearing boots, booties, tennies...so I'm sure in terms of "footwear/month" it all comes out equal.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    Heheheh...thanks, Sarah.

Pssst. I am seriously tempted to buy those Eccos. too!!

That would total 4 new sandals this year, and 5 if I am lucky enough to find my white pair.

Oh well. What can I say? I have become a footwear addict. But I do wear the heck out of them.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

"Wasteful, spendthrift fool?'' Really?  This sounds like a piece of dialogue from a British mystery, as in, "Neville, you are such a wasteful, spendthrift fool."

If I am to call you this, I must do it with an accent, or in operatic recitative.  Still, it might be theatrical, but it wouldn't be true.  You have a well curated wardrobe, small and very useful.  Don't buy these if they create clutter,.  DO buy them if they add energy to your outfits and can be put in a regular rotation.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Hah, I've become a footwear addict, too. It's hard to imagine that I used to wear one pair of black or brown sandals all summer long.

BTW, the eccos were biting into the back of my ankle a bit, and I was starting to worry, but then I had the brilliant idea of unzipping them just a touch and voilà, problem solved. Today I walked about 6 blocks to a baby shower and found them super comfie. Not to enable your or anything...

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

It's so great when you find something that works and you feel like you want every other color under the Sun - and then it becomes a possibility. I'm happy for you.

I have just noticed these are by Rieker. The brand is everywhere around here. So, if you ever want to stock up on another pair (or double up, or whatever), check amazon.de and all other costs, to see if it would be worth sending a parcel your way ;-)

ETA: Suz, I have just checked your sandals on the German website! They have 3 key colors from my summer wardrobe - deep fuschia and orange (my linen shirts, duplicates but in different color, btw!) and red. Btw, the colors appear a bit more saturated than on your link. But that's not the problem - my problem is: Why did I have to look??? You made me do it, it's not my fault. I planned no summer purchases at this point. Now what???

ETA 2: Ok, I'm now officially stalking these, they are my browser homepage and if they go below certain price I'll give them a go.

ETA 3: No more ETAs... gotcha :-D

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

These are so bright and Summery......gorgeous :) and they look super comfy.

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

OMG Suz, that is one fantastic sandal, perfect for you. NOT a waste. You have amply justified your need for it. And now I want it for myself. But the colors suit you much more.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

These sound like a great pick because you mentioned not owning any colored sandals AND you are going to one in/one out your purchase.  SO these get my thumbs up.  (And I only own two pairs of sandals myself, one is black and the other is blue with white stripes, the colored pair are worn many MORE times than my neutral pair.)

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Lets see those puppies in action. You already have plans for these - so to copy Beth Ann - No, Neville, you are not a wasteful, spendthrift fool :) Especially since they are so pretty and look so comfy.

But this is from someone in a similar climate with five pair of sandals, not counting flip flops. Two of which are new this season.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

I love them! I'd be all over them if I had not already bought the Splendid ones Denise has (pink and taupe cross ankle) and a new pair of red sandals. I cannot comment on having too many sandals. I refuse to count mine.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Yay!  I've loved them since Angie linked to them too!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Zappos is out of these in my size.   Anyone have experience with Shoebuy?  Their reviews are all over the place and it is making me cautious about ordering these.  I'll keep looking, but thought I would check.  Thanks.

Suz- Looking forward to seeing how you like these.  If you wear sandals most days in the summer, having several pairs makes sense to me.  I find that open shoes just don't hold up the same way my closed ones do, even with snowy winters.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Eliza, I have ordered from Shoebuy when I was visiting the US. (Ordered stuff delivered to a hotel, via Amazon but Shoebuy was the seller.) It was easy and relatively quick for one pair....but another pair did not get there on the expected date. This was a problem for me, as I was only there a few days, but for you would not be as big an issue. In any case, returns were a cinch.

You're right about open shoes not holding up as well. Joy's theory is that it's because our feet are hot and sweaty and in contact with the shoes, which is probably partly true. Like Sarah, I used to make it through each summer with ONE pair of black or brown sandals...urgh. Now I can't bear to be that limited and enjoy the opportunities to wear fun footwear.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Suz.  I may take the plunge if my size is still available.

Yes, I think it is a combo of warm weather, sweating bare feet and somehow increased exposure to the sidewalks, beaches, etc. that take a toll.  I also like to mix it up with wedges (dressier and more casual) and flat sandals (but can't wear the mega-thin flats of 2013). I like some brighter ones precisely because the season is short, and therefore celebratory for me.
