NAS: Vince dress, or Suz's knee-baring experiment, continued

Yay, or nay?

I was so excited to open this box, which arrived courtesy of the lovely Karie. (And SUPER fast).

The dress is not yet pressed and is very wrinkled from the bag. Pressing will make the dress a fraction longer and it will fall more smoothly, but you get the idea -- size is perfect for me, but because I take a small size it is definitely knee-baring. Less short than on the model, but short for me, used to wearing midis.

Note, like the CM dress it does not feel uncomfortably bare and passes the sit test -- I think hi-lo hems must help with this. But it is even shorter than the CM. So I wonder if I am risking age-inappropriateness.

I could, of course, wear as a kind of tunic. But I would like to be able to wear as a dress.

Would love your thoughts! Thank you!

Love, love, love.  What is not to love.  No it is not too short.  You have great legs.

  • Laura (rhubarbgirl) replied 8 years ago

My tentative conclusion is nay. Not that you don't look great - you do have great legs - but my first thought was "whoa, thigh" which suggests to me that this might not be the versatile, occasion-crossing piece that works for several years.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Killer Stunning. LOVE IT. (Aren't those cow print Okalas the best ankle strap shoes of all time?)

I think the knee-baring length works because:

    • You have great legs
    • The style is very fluid
    • And the back is long
  • tulle replied 8 years ago

Would it spoil the dressy feeling for you to wear black or tonal tights, or even just nude hose with this, Suz?  I think you are quite slim and fit enough for age-appropriateness not to be an issue, but smoothing over the kneecaps always seems to elongate the line and eliminate distractions with shorter dresses. Very pretty on you, and a great color for Fall!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Also, the colour is off in the pics - but I KNOW it looks stunning on you.

  • Diana replied 8 years ago

Oh my goodness, I love this SO MUCH on you and the length is just perfect.

  • Staysfit replied 8 years ago

It's great, but I like the CM even better.

  • Marley replied 8 years ago

Well . . . first of all - it is soooo cute - and once again, makes me kick myself that I didn't try this dress myself!  I would definitely wear it as a tunic.  But for me personally, it is too short.  Just above the knee is fine, but when 'above the knee' is several inches?  Too short.  But if you are fine with the length?  Hey, it's your dress and you can wear it however you want!!!!

  • Marley replied 8 years ago

Maybe if you wore it with a flatter shoe, the length wouldn't be an issue?

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I'm chiming in again Suz to suggest that you steam the dress to create a more accurate length.

  • Kimberley replied 8 years ago

Oh my gosh, this is super sexy.  Please do not return it!  Wear it!

  • kerry replied 8 years ago

    Shazam! Gotta keep!

  • celia replied 8 years ago

To me it doesn't sound short but I have some questions
    - Do you feel comfortable in it or do you feel like pulling the dress down all the time ?
    - when you sit how much does it ride up?

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Thank you all. I welcome the diversity of views -- your input really mirrors my own feeling; I'm not used to wearing short dresses, yet I really do love this. :)

But yes, before I make a decision, I will steam it so we can see the length. I'm sure it's above the knee, though -- no question.

I can't do this today as I am getting ready to travel tomorrow and have errands to do before that. But as soon as we return I will show it at its full length.

Oh, and Angie -- absolutely these cow print Okalas are the best ever!  ;)

As for the colour -- it is not showing perfectly here because I am indoors and had to use the flash, but it's a very dark cranberry (or blue red). A brighter cranberry is more "my" colour, but this absolutely works.

As to hose -- I would wear them in the cooler weather for sure. And different shoes (with a closed heel) or booties. In warm weather, though, it would be nice to be able to wear it as seen. I do think that the hint of skin is part of what makes it a great dress. Too covered over and it might lose something.

Oh, and can I just say that I LOVE this neckline?? It is so hard to find a little narrow V like this and so flattering for the likes of me.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Celia, it doesn't ride up when I sit because it is not tight. Very loose. It is not uncomfortable because it is not snug -- to Angie's point.

If this dress were form fitting or body con it would feel very uncomfortable to me at this length.

BUT -- the last thing I want is a dress that looks "skimpy." At that price.

  • Banoffi replied 8 years ago

You look amazing in that dress!!

  • goldenpig replied 8 years ago

Love it on you! You must keep it! You've got gorgeous legs!

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

Oh, keep!  Not skimpy, totally age appropriate.  More to the point:  killer on you.

  • Liz replied 8 years ago

I think the length is just fine and the color is lovely. My question is about where you are going in this and what season it is (fall? winter?). This dress is covered with the high neck and long sleeves, and yet shows leg. Will you feel OK in it in the winter and not seasonally confused? (Or maybe it's just a warm weather dress?)

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Liz, in my climate it would be an autumn dress as is (with bare legs) and a winter-ready dress with hose and closed shoes or booties. I could also wear it in spring and for some summer events in AC or cooler weather but would be much more likely to wear sleeveless then.

  • AviaMariah replied 8 years ago

In the words of Mary ****plonk***.

I have a higher tolerance for short hemlines than some but I think it's perfect.  The length gives it the perfect hint of sexiness.  The color is gorgeous, the drape (even un-pressed) is perfect, the juxtaposition between the shorter hem-length and the waist surrendering/long sleeves is perfect.  10 from me.  :)

  • Joyce B replied 8 years ago

It looks fab on you. I don't think it will ride up when you sit because it's a tunic but I would check that out anyway.

  • Parsley replied 8 years ago

I love it on you! It doesn't look too short to me at all. Those great legs of yours deserve to be shown, anyway!

  • AviaMariah replied 8 years ago

Not that I think you need to but is there any extra room to let the hem out if you wanted to?

  • viva replied 8 years ago

KEEP!!! I love it on you. (And on me, haha!) I know what you mean about the length, but I think it will be a great dress for hose and tights, which mitigates the issue somewhat. And isn't the neckline divine? I told you.
I hope you keep it. Age appropriately fab.

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

It looks fantastic on you!! So, yes, keep.

Except that I know I would be questioning the length too, for me. Objective is that is looks perfectly amazing, but only you can decide your comfort level!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 8 years ago

This dress is killer stunning on you Suz. You have gorgeous legs so no worries there. I think it boils down to whether or not YOU are ok with the length. And to Angie's point, steam the dress and dry again when you're back. It may fall longer then.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Perfect! The color isn't showing up right but I know how it will look when steamed put. This is the 2, right?

  • Susie replied 8 years ago

It is such a gorgeous dress and it looks lovely on you. You've got nice legs so I think you certainly can wear this length, especially with the longer back. If it was me, though, I would consider it a bit too short. For summer I think the length is just fine. But this seems like the perfect fall dress and for that I'd like to see it a bit longer. Not sure that even makes sense but ideally I'd prefer that it be just above the knee.

  • gradfashionista replied 8 years ago

Without knowing your own reservations about hemlines, it looks absolutely wonderful on you, and I could see it working well with black tights and booties [that's the Ontario gal in me speaking].

  • carter replied 8 years ago

Suz, this is stunning on you.  The length doesn't bother me at all, as long as it isn't something you'll be fussing with every time.

  • shedev replied 8 years ago

I like this as both a dress and tunic when it gets a little cooler. I vote keep.

  • Dee replied 8 years ago

I love it! The longer back balances out the shorter front, and gives it enough coverage for sitting and appropriateness.

  • SW Ann replied 8 years ago

I don't think that the length is a problem, and in fact, I think having a variety of hem lengths is FUN.  You have great legs, it's covered up everywhere else, including the back, and I just think it offers something a little different that could be, yes, FUN in a more "dress up" dress.  Additionally, gorgeous color, versatile shape....what's not to love??? If it came in my size, I'd buy it too!

  • Elizabeth P replied 8 years ago

I don't think this looks short, at all.  I personally would definitely wear something this length.  And shorter even. However, having said that, my gut reaction was that it looked short FOR YOU.  See, I even have preconceived notions about what you wear, so I can certainly understand how you must feel!

So I think this is a matter of you being confident that it looks good on you, and let yourself get used to the length and learn to be comfortable with it.

And please do.  Cuz you need to rock this dress in public somewhere!

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

It looks fantastic on you. I don't think too short as the back is longer and the dress is loose. You look very polished in it.

  • Elle replied 8 years ago

You definitely have the legs for this dress and it seems age appropriate. But it is shorter than the other dress you posted and you've been wearing longer lengths.  Will you be comfortable wearing this length?

One other small thing - you might try it on with hose/tights just to make sure it doesn't catch on them.  Some dress (unfortunately, I know from experience) catch on tights and ride up.

  • texstyle replied 8 years ago

I think it works because it's not a skimpy sort of shorter dress and it's a beautiful color on you and it's flowy and just plain pretty! I'll bet it will look lovely in fall/winter too with hose or tights.

  • Gaylene replied 8 years ago

I think the my response to the "Is it too short?" question depends on when, where, and how you'd happily wear the dress. Objectively, the dress looks great, so no doubts there, and I'm all for baring knees regardless of age.

I have noticed that my own preferences have changed as I've grown older. Date nights, parties with friends, and summer festivals still have me happily reaching for my shorter skirts and dresses, but restaurants, galas, and the theatre, especially in the fall and winter months, are a different story. In those situations, I find myself craving a more sophisticated, adult look that is easier to pull off if my skirts are mid-knee or lower. Even when I'm wearing darker hose and boots, my shorter skirts just don't make me feel as good as do my longer ones when I'm in that mood.

If the dress is pricey, maybe think of when and where you might wear the dress before deciding. The dress looks lovely on you, and, objectively, the length is fine, but only you can judge the circumstances when you'd reach for that particular dress.

  • kerlyn replied 8 years ago

Oh my gosh! With those legs, major YAY! Gorgeous!

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

I agree it's great on you.  I'm thinking it's a wear-right-now/September dress.  Pre-Fall.  For Fall, there are the tights as suggested.  What about leather leggings for fall and more warmth?  Finally, do you have jackets you could layer on top of it, and then finally a coat, to get a look that would work in late Fall/early Winter like Christmas time?

The collections on Angie's A/W 2015 pin board show so much creative layering, I could see a silk tunic like this working really well.

ETA -- I wanted to add that with flash photography, there's a tendency to over emphasize bare legs.  The flash creates shadows and a shiny-ness that makes you see LEGS whereas if I turn off the flash, the look is different.  Pic one:  middle aged woman in shorts.  Pic two:  middle aged woman in SHORTS!  Does anyone else see this leg emphasis or is it just me?

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

I really love it on you Suz, I love the style, the shape and the length. I see layering options for cooler weather too. While it is fashionable I see it having longevity.

When I posted my dress pics I really felt the most popular polka dot dress was too short. When I looked in the mirror that was my feeling. Objectively it was fine. So it just comes down to your preference here.

  • Sara L. replied 8 years ago

I think the dress looks great.  I love how the back is longer than the front which balances out the shorter front.  No worries that it's too short.  It looks fine and you definitely have the legs to wear it.

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

Wow. Right shape for right shape.

So, I wanted and want it to be a tich longer, because I think that would be elegant and NO WORRIES whatsoever, super-versatile.

OTOH, my "wish it were longer" eye isn't poisoned and all tsk-tsky, nothing "wrong" with shorter with this dress, just wondering about events and such and the vibe you want for them. I expect you and Mr. Suz can create adequate date-night and party nights for it. It does not have the same sort of glamour of the CM dress but does have a fun and dressy look.

I like what Gaylene said, re: different looks for different venues. So I would style it in those various ways you mentioned and see if some of them look good with the dress (vs. if they interfere with its intent, are merely "oh, winterize this dress with tights"). Because I think the length is less acceptable in winter-mode even if the venue inside were warm, KWIM? If you get good, sophisticated looks (different for sure, but still looking "right" for the dress proportions and color palette) more covered up and also feel good about fun-knees events for late summer-early fall, then that would make it a versatile dress.

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

It looks stunning on you! Keep. Even if it's one of those special pieces you only wear a couple times a year. No one is going to think it's too short; they'll be too busy admiring you!

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Suz, I just want to add that I did not see the length issue at all and still don't. I would wear it at your length too. But do make sure you feel comfortable walking in it - I have some dresses that feel fine barelegged when I'm standing, but when I walk down the street I feel self conscious.

  • Marilyn replied 8 years ago

I think it looks amazing on you, Suz.  And no, I don't think it's too short.  Your legs look fantastic.  When it comes to length I tend to go by what an item looks like on the wearer, not their age.

  • replied 8 years ago

Suz, this is just beautiful on you. I am the first person to worry about age appropriate and length. It's a pet peeve of mine. But I can't say enough how there's *no* risk of inappropriate here (and I've had a glass of wine...or 3...so I have zero filter in the brutal honesty department right now). This dress is slammin' GORGEOUS on you. The coverage on top offsets the length perfectly. This is a beautifully designed, versatile dress that is made to be worn by you. Please keep!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Thanks so much for all your thoughts -- I truly appreciate them. My gut says keep the dress and enjoy it -- like this in warmer weather and with leather pants (gah -- must buy!!) or other bottoms in cooler weather, or tights, and layered with some kind of jacket. I will try all possible stylings when I get back from my trip. Leaving early tomorrow.

Thank you all again -- super helpful.

ETA -- it feels just fine in motion and sitting and standing -- for summer. Not sure how it might feel at a later time of year -- I agree that it might feel too exposed then, even with sheers. But the fact is, I have to wear hose in colder temps, so in a way it is moot.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

You look great in it. Do you feel ok in it? If so, you should keep it.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

What a treat! The dress is absolutely gorgeous on you. The neckline is perfect. I love the color although I believe all of you in person viewers that say it looks a bit different irl. Your legs look fantastic. But I will share what went through my mind: "hmm, will that dress be as short on me? that might not work well at the bar mitzvah." Suz, you know I am playing to a particular crowd in my head, and for them this dress at this length on me, it might be too short for that occasion (but I am shorter than you and take a bigger size so we'll see). Apart from any such very specific instances, I have no problem with the length. But I would wear the equivalent of biker shorts underneath just in case.
    Oh, so keep! :-)!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

In answer to all questions about how it feels -- it feels fabulous! It's just a gorgeous happy cut for me. And I think steaming it out will make it fall just right. I also like the idea of leather pants or even leggings (HA!!). So...chances are I will keep. But I'll post again after my trip. In the meantime -- thank you!!

oh -- and yes -- I think I have the right kinds of events to wear this at. And...no hem to let it out.

  • Vix replied 8 years ago

    Hi Suz --

Man, I'm kind of an eyebrow-raiser about hem lengths IRL so I do enjoy feeling like a slattern on YLF every so often!*

I wasn't logged in when I first saw the discussion -- I thought the hem would be a lot shorter, ha! Absolutely no issues here re any venues, so if you're ok with the knees on parade, Ms Midi, ditto.

It's very pretty on you, so enjoy!

*My NAS dress/tunic has a similar hi/low situation and is about this length plus it has small side slits. So you're the Queen of England in comparison.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Hahahah, Vix, I will just call up my milliner and see if she can whip me up a little matchy matchy hat! :)

Maybe that would even please the bar mitzvah crowd? Hmmmm.

In all seriousness, to Gaylene's point and Shevia's -- I would not wear this dress to: a religious ceremony, a funeral, a lunch party with a group of 90 year olds, or even (maybe) an event where I had to be on a dias and weirdos might be tempted to look up. ;)

I would wear it to: a cocktail reception, a dinner with hubs, a party with friends, the theatre, opera, etc.

To Gaylene's second point, it wouldn't feel appropriate for me in cooler weather. I would definitely want hose and I would like to feel more covered. It would work as some kind of tunic then--  if I can find the right bottoms. And in mid range temps it would work with sheer hose. I don't think it will look good with opaque hose on me due to my hair colour. Sheer nude or black/ charcoal, I think. Unless maybe with flat boots and opaque hose plus some kind of topper.

  • abc replied 8 years ago

Looks amazing on you, Suz. You have a fit and healthy body. No need to cover it from head to toe. There is coverage on the neck and arms so a little leg in front doesn't put me off one bit. I love the color and cut on you. If your gut says throw caution to the wind, do it. You only live once. Plus, how many luncheons with 90 year olds do you go to anyway?

  • Deborah replied 8 years ago

Suz, the dress is just lovely on you.  It reminds me a littleof my navy Witchery dress and that is a similar length at the front.  I don't think it's too short, as long as you are comfortable :)  The colour, even though the photo is off on colouring, is one that will look so beautiful on you.  And I like that this could be worn as a dress or as a tunic, so multiple options.  Keep :)

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

Damn... I haven't been following the NAS thread (it makes me want to shop!) and missed this one.

You look FABULOUS, Suz! I don't think the length looks too short. It's amazing just as it is....wear it as a dress in summer, and as a tunic with leggings once the weather cools. It IS versatile.

I want to make another point here. I have a red dress that I love very much, but it does 'feel' short to me sometimes. I have found that wearing pretty flat shoes with the dress completely takes care of that problem.

While the okalas look stunning, they do have a heel. If you wear pretty strappy sandals that read 'dressy' and 'summery', the proportions will change. It's not inappropriately short with heels either, btw. But with flats, it'll feel 'just the right length'.

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

Gosh, I am torn. It's lovely in so many ways! Ultimately it comes down to your comfort level, especially if you envision wearing this bare-legged most of the time. I am going to echo alaskagirl...how does it feel if you are striding along? Is the weight heavy enough to keep the dress from flying up? I have regretted purchases that look and feel fine in front of the mirror, but behave very differently when I am in motion outdoors on a windy day!

And GRRRR... Why do items get shorter with smaller sizes?

  • lyn67 replied 8 years ago

Wow, you DO have great legs-and it's not at all about age  inaproppiateness-but I would like to see them with flatter shoes. I know Okalas are not too high, but they seem a bit too dainty for the style of the dress, if you know what I mean. Would try them with flats/low wedge flats or so. I just went back and saw your other dress, that has the perfect (hi low)length to my eyes, but YLF in both!

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

KEEP THE DRESS. I want to be extra bossy here.

    Next experiment. Leggings.

    *smiling*

  • Susie replied 8 years ago

With you stating this..."I would wear it to: a cocktail reception, a dinner with hubs, a party with friends, the theatre, opera, etc."  ...I think it is perfect. It sounds like you really love it, Suz, and everyone agrees that it is not inappropriate in any way and in fact looks gorgeous on you. Keep!

  • jackiec replied 8 years ago

Gorgeous, Suz. I absolutely love it on you. I'm nodding along with you because, for me also, it would be a summer dress. But you will have lots of opportunities to wear it, as you've noted. Angie has spoken, you must KEEP ;).

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Angie, leggings -- oh no!!!  ;)

Psst....I am going to look at faux leather ones.

Thanks, everyone -- I am keeping.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Yeah. Perhaps try the Lysee leggings under this dress - just for fun.  I wore this outfit over the weekend and loved it.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

So I got Lysee leggings last year and they would not stay up on me. I have this problem with many leggings I have tried. I'm not sure why. But it is part of the reason I gravitate away from them.

The other reason is it all feels too unstructured. But wearing a Woven dress or top or topper will really help with that problem.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Did you try sizing down? YES. It's all about the WOVEN dress with leggings.

Try your skinny jeans under the dress, Suz. Is the combination  "at home date night "potential for and hubs. Love that you do that.

  • abc replied 8 years ago

Love Angie's suggestions. And yes maybe you need to size down in the leggings. They need to fit snugly. Can't wait to see the outfits and styling you can make with this gorgeous dress. I am so glad Angie was bossy and you listened :)

  • Elly replied 8 years ago

Have you tried Spanx leggings? The light compression and higher waist might help with the crawling factor (I have that problem with tights and have good luck with higher-waisted mildly compressive pairs that are long enough). Do athletic leggings stay up?

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Great suggestions. SOME athletic ones stay up. But some don't. It sounds like I might have to experiment a bit. I had the smallest size in the Lysee last year and they were control top but they still crawled down on me. I'm going to see if there's any commonality in the sports versions that don't crawl down on me.

  • Eliza replied 8 years ago

Late to the "keep it" party, but so glad you decided to give this gorgeous dress a go. The color is beyond beautiful on you and its movement adds a lot also. It was a clear winner when you described how it felt to wear it.

    Happy travels.

  • replied 8 years ago

OMG you look ADORABLE. The dress, the shoes..!!!

  • replied 8 years ago

Wow! The neck line is perfect on you (I think you were concerned about it).

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

    Wardrobe hole identified:  leather/pleather leggings!

  • Beth replied 8 years ago

For the venues in which you're planning on wearing it, I think it's perfect.

Listen to Angie. I love it when Angie's bossy. :)

  • Caro in Oz replied 8 years ago

VERY late to this but what Beth said :) Please keep, I love it on you it's very modern gamine imo :) :)

  • Thistle replied 8 years ago

I am glad you are keeping. Regardless of every one else, YOU love it, and that's what matters.

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

I am excited to see how you style this dress, especially in cooler weather.

  • Carole replied 8 years ago

The dress is gorgeous on you, Suz! That's the one piece I swooned over at NAS but didn't get because my lifestyle doesn't warrant such a piece...I will live vicarious through you. And, I think the length is perfect...you've great legs:)

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

Sweet sister! I love the dress! I am away from home and having internet issues, so I haven't read the other comments. I usually don't like shorter dresses, but I would wear this in a NY Minute!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Karen, THANK you so much again for facilitating. I will post the skirts when I get back home. They are also keepers.

  • replied 8 years ago

I've never seen such an outpouring over one dress !  ;)  Just chiming in to suggest that when tights and leggings crawl down, they are just as  often too small or too short, as they are too big.    Yes, getting them bigger adds length sometimes, but having to yank them up means they either don't have enough stretch and hold at the waist, or they are too small.  Just my two cents here ...

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

    Voom! :D

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

The thread needs to stop , I  have become a green eyed monster as I simply adore the dress but of course failed to purchase !!!!

  • viva replied 8 years ago

I'm just adding another response to see if we can get this thread over the 100-mark.

  • Word Lily replied 8 years ago

Viva's comment made me laugh, so I'm adding. I think I didn't actually comment earlier, because the push was so strong already for KEEP! that I didn't feel the need to add my voice to the fray. But yes, it's really great.

  • goldenpig replied 8 years ago

Bump! The Spiegel leather jacket of 2015! Count me in! We need to do a mega twin day!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Just a suggestion that may be hard to empliment. Decades ago when I was a young teacher with a closet of miniskirts, trying to make them acceptable classroom wear, I often used stockings in colors. If you can find berry colored sheers, it may help your comfort level and bookend the sheer sleeves. Long ago I used to have a stash of burgundy, navy, and even Hunter green sheers for this purpose.
You need to keep the dress. What does Mr. Suz think of it?

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Natalie, laughing myself silly. We need a get-together with this dress.

Joy, good thought. I will look for burgundy hose.

Mr. Suz hasn't seen it yet -- he was travelling and now I am travelling.

I think he will like it. He doesn't mind shorter skirts (but also likes longer ones) and he likes what makes me happy. Waist surrender is a non-issue for him.

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 8 years ago

I still haven't decided 100 percent if I'm keeping mine. I haven't showed DH but I think he will go down the same lines as Natalie's husband, plus tell me it looks like a maternity dress. DD saw it and liked it but she said it was more her style (she likes shifts and she's all about burgundy) than my usual look. Whatever that is. LLL.

  • Alley replied 8 years ago

Looks really good on you. Just awwwwwsommmmmeeeeee

  • AJ replied 8 years ago

You took my breath away with this styling! I think the shorter hem still works for you because the rest of the dress is modest and it has a loose fit. You look gorgeous! Keep!

  • kellygirl replied 8 years ago

I hope you post pics of you in the leggings with this keeper dress!  I love that look and have never ventured there.  I used to wear that style years ago when it was "in" then, primarily to stay warmer in the winter but it always felt comfortable and sporty.  Lotsa love of this dress on you!

I think that with a more voluminous dress, this shorter length is much easier than a longer length which risks looking dowdy with leggings .  In fact, I'd actually prefer mine an inch or so shorter.  I feel like knee covering dresses with leggings is redundant.  Of course, this is why all the shorter dresses I wear in winter with leggings and tights feel a bit skimpy in summer, but summer is not my dominant season anyway.

Huge recommendation for the Spanx leggings.  The Lysse also work great for me but I see not for you.

Unbelievable. My advice? Wear it while you still can, Suz. You look stunning.  I was pining for that dress, but knew in my heart of hearts that my over-the-knee dress days have passed. You are a very smart shopper with a fabulous wardrobe, and I admire your careful consideration process. I would add this in a heartbeat -- you will wear it for years to come.

It looks so good on you! I love your accessories too, especially the bracelet.
    You have beautiful legs.
    I say flaunt them!

I thought I was too late to comment but I cannot restrain myself :-)
1 - the color and cut are real winners for you
2 - the sheer sleeves are gorgeous combination of covered and alluring
3 - I think the length is fine if you are comfortable with it. I find that the dresses and skirts a bit short in the front are fine as long as the back is longer and the overall look is sophisticated. What is wrong with knees anyway?!
So this is your wild card, Mrs. Suz - wear it and enjoy. And you can always look to the trusted Danier for some cool leather leggings! :-)

You look wonderful, and it's not too short at all. And I'm very sensitive to that (that's the nice way of saying I'm normally judge-y). Love your shoes, too!
