Speaking of button front shirts: The Zara order

Deborah has requested a full report on all items from my vast online shopping spree, so, herewith, instalment the first!

First, this Zara button front shirt. Tags are off! It is a blend of viscose, rayon, and cotton so is very light and breathable. I like the oversize fit and the fun cutout in back. It will work with denim and my whites.

Next up, this Trafulac shirt. I like it from front and back. The oversized fit and pleat are good and the fabric is 100% cotton. Crisp. But...the armholes are so deep that you can see my bra, and that is not a great look. I would probably have to wear a tank underneath, which would spoil the point of wearing it.

Thoughts?

Last one is the silk mixed media sleeveless top like my  navy one -- in magenta. It's wrinkly from the box and looks very sheer in the flash, but it's a keeper. I probably wouldn't wear it like this with the cobalt but 1). I was lazy; and 2). I wanted to prove to Sveta that I could style two bright colours together, as she occasionally issues challenges like this to shake me out of my uniforms. :)

Love 1st and 3rd! The first one especially--I am swooning over the way the stripes run down the sleeve. And the cutout in back! I really love the white top, too. Could you take an artful tuck under the arm? It might look good with the design, given the big pleat in the back.

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Ooh, the striped shirt is absolutely incredible on you Suz, love it! The pink silk top is wonderful as well, and why not wear it with that cobalt skirt?

I see what you mean about the white shirt. Pity, as it also looks great.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

LOVE the first blouse. I had it in my hands this morning at Zara. High five. Killer.

Actually, I can't see your bra at all in #6. On trend and fab. (And it's just a bra - not a boob).

#7 is my best. You in that colour is magical, Queen Cranberry. Even more killer.

  • carter replied 9 years ago

Love the first and third ones especially! The striped one is killer. Love all your sandals too. Are the magenta ones new, or have I just not seen them because I wasn't around last summer?

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Thank you! I thought I did pretty well with these, also. Firecracker, that detail about the stripes on the sleeves was one that I noticed and loved right away, too. And the fabric feels so drapey and cool.

I will take another look at top 2 and consider. I don't have a plain white button front summer shirt at the moment....

  • abc replied 9 years ago

Love shirt 1 but you cracked me up with the armhole pointing pic!

  • Lyn D. replied 9 years ago

Love for #1 and 3# here too!
Not sure about the volume at the rear view of 2 in the pics ? - the under arm thing is not a deal breaker for me, as arms-up is not how others see us usually :)

  • deb replied 9 years ago

I like #2 but it looks too big. What about sizing down?

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

Great haul. The colour in #3 is TDF.

  • Gaylene replied 9 years ago

*laughing at Angie's it's just a bra, not a boob*

I love the back detail on that shirt and Lyn D. makes a good point that you aren't likely to be walking around with your arms in the air unless you live in an area with thriving bank robbing industry. And, besides, aren't you a member of the lovely lingerie set?

The Zara shirt and the magenta ( or cranberry?) top are no-brainers, though. They look both look amazing.

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

    It's a bra not a boob......LOL

All of the are really great I love the color in the last pic on you.  Could you get the arm holes sewn up a little or would that ruin the look?

  • Aida replied 9 years ago

Suz I love the whole lot on you! Angie said what I was thinking about the low armhole :) If I knew that there'd be a lil flash of bra, I'd wear a prettier nude bra and call it good myself. The fuchsia looks great with the cobalt, by the way. Throw on some white accents here and there if you want it perked up a bit.

  • replied 9 years ago

All three are great! I don't think the one in 2 looks too gapey.

  • Isis replied 9 years ago

I love all three, but especially #2! What a cool back! Wear a pretty bra! Love Angie's its a bra.....

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    You guys are brilliant!

I do have a prettier nude bra than the one I am wearing today. I could also get a pretty lacy white one. (It is time to upgrade my bras anyway). Isis, I agree about the back on #2. That is what first made me try it on -- that, and the 100% cotton fabrication. Can't beat that for the heat.

Aida, thanks -- I agree that a bit of white would be great with cobalt and magenta. Good thought.

Ladywone - the armholes on the magenta top are no problem. They're cut high enough for me to wear without worry.

Gaylene, you made me laugh! Thanks to you, I am a card-carrying member of lovely lingerie....but I do need an update (see above.)

Ornella, I knew I could count on you to love the colour of #3. We are colour buddies. :)

Deb, #2 is meant to be way oversize. This is my right size -- sure of it.

Lyn -- I hear you on the volume of 2, but I like oversize.

abc, I aim to please. If I can make a lady laugh, it's a good day. :)

carter, those shoes are actually my old sandals from last year -- dated because of the little platform, but fun colours and an Angie pick, so I will wear them again this year.

Angie, you totally crack me up. If I do as April suggests and play "bra-less pixie" maybe it WILL be a boob. Unfortunately, my boobs do not provide much of a show to any interested parties.....however, they do have their conveniences, for instance, it's possible I could wear only a nice cami under this....

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

There you go. All sorted, Suz. I love you in these tops. I'm sure you're feeling a LOT better about your Summer Tops Capsule now.

I'm a modest dresser for sure, but I'm very Euro about bras. I love them pretty, and see no shame in showcasing - accidentally or deliberately - a bit of pretty bra when the boobage is covered. It's a bit of pretty fabric. That's all.

  • Mona replied 9 years ago

I am having a really hard time recovering from the blouse in #1. It is really awesomely fab on you and love the bright colour combo in the last outfit.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Oh, thank you, Mona and Angie.

One reason I am really attracted to Zara is that despite the low quality of some items (we are talking fast fashion, after all....and there are often stray threads to cut off, seams a-wonk, and various other issues with their clothes)...at the same time, and equally, their clothes display unusual attention to detail.

For instance -- the real button cuffs on many of the jackets.

And here -- the stripes that line up down the arms and make a nice chevron V from the side. How cool is that? And the keyhole back that I didn't even know about when I ordered?

It is these details, plus the brilliant fit that I get at Zara in tops and jackets, that keeps me going back.

I haven't tried their trousers (apart from the sarong shorts, which are FAB!!) and the dresses I have tried have not worked for me....but I just know I will keep shopping there again and again.

PS. Mr. Suz gives thumbs up on the striped top. TEAM WEAR!!!!

  • Angela K replied 9 years ago

I think all these look lovely on you! IMO they look better on you than on the Zara models. :)

  • SarahTheWhite replied 9 years ago

So cute! And I love the cutout on back of the he first one!! These look awesome on you!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

I especially love the first and the last...have to slap myself HARD not to order them too as they come in XL...be strong Sveta...they will be too short for you anyway!
Awesome color mix - see, you can do it brilliantly!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Pssst....Sveta....#1 will NOT be too short on you in XL. Totally worth it....great, great top.

  • replied 9 years ago

Looks like the site is down now in prep for a sale starting tomorrow?!

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

That cranberry is gorgeous on you. I like all the tops and so glad you figured out a way to be comfortable wearing #2. (Just avoid public transit at rush hour, maybe?)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

Yep Ceit, I saw it too. I have never seen Zara sale, maybe worth checking?

  • replied 9 years ago

Their winter sale was awesome --- I got a bomber that was normally $160 for $30! I hope the summer sale is as good!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

I saw that, too!!! Yikes. I might have to return these to get them at sale price!! I don't think they can stop me if it happens. Or maybe just call for price adjustment. If they do such things. Though these items are new enough they probably won't be part of the sale offerings. I am wondering about toppers, though....those could go on sale now.

  • replied 9 years ago

That is what I am hoping! My other sale score from Zara was my faux leather sleeved blazer.

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

So are we staying up late today? :-)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Ack!! We stayed up late yesterday!! How much more of this can we stand? After all, we need to get into practice for getting up EARLY for the NAS!!! :) Yes, I know, you are only buying bras and footwear, but you know how quickly they sell out of your size....

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Yes the sale started in Israel yesterday. The prices go down and down until they sell it all in my experience. Not sure about price adjustments but if not you could re-order and return. Seems ridiculous though.
Ceit and I are now officially shoe twins. That is all I am saying so far.

Suz you should be a Zara model. Seriously those tops take life modeled by you. I need to start a Zara post. Zara sale season makes me giddy.
(I also loved Angie's it's just a bra, not a boob Gaylene et al.)

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

And here these two wise ladies were saying "no more shopping until NAS" just yesterday...their resolve was very short lived indeed...:-(
On the resolve topic: I was bad and bought gap linen blend pants today. The only thing I can say in my defense that I did not own a single pair of lightweight enough pair of pants or shorts to wear comfortably in 30+ weather outdoors...is this a valid excuse or should you slap me? :-)

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Sveta, you are incorrigible!! I cannot possibly slap you, however, for I myself purchased the drawstring linen pants from J. Crew!

Shevia, you are tempting me too much!! I am going to be giddy with the Zara sale as well. Oh oh. I need to calm down here...

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Suz, please keep the lot or return only to get a sale price. Each top is special, looks fantastic, and will play well with others in your closet.

  • Gracie replied 9 years ago

I really like 1 and 3, great stripes, keyhole, cranberry color, floatiness. 2 gives me pause not because of the deep armhole but because from the front it looks rather, well, plain, except for the futuristic looking sharp sleeves... But of course that's just my take. Can't wait to see the rest of your goodies.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

I love all three! Keep, keep, and keep! And how funny "It's a bra not a boob." Ha! I'm a little shy about low armholes and showing my bra, but hey, if it's a pretty bra, why not?

And there will be no slapping Sveta and Suz! Play nice, now!

  • Lisa replied 9 years ago

    Hey no slapping ladies!  :)

Fab new tops, that cranberry color is divine on you.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

    I love them all!!

You are killing me, though. I love everything you buy! I almost pulled the trigger on the linen T's yesterday with the sale & free shipping. I just hesitated in case we were away and the shipment arrived with no one here to bring it in...wasn't sure.

Now these Zara buys!? Oh and the Zara shorts...I missed the boat on those - so fab.

You are truly inspirational and always look fantastic and put together :)

  • Ariadne replied 9 years ago

Ooh, such great shirts.  I remember the headache summer tops gave you last year so I'm so glad you found fantastic ones early in the season this time around.

I am literally laughing out lout at Angie's comments about boobs vs. bras!

If only the silk one had a lower neckline, I'd be all over it.  But then it wouldn't work for you, so I'll just enjoy it in your outfits.

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

Love these all - in fact I ordered the striped one myself as it was just the type of lower contrast stripe I like. Now I wonder if it will go on sale. Hmm. The white sleeveless looks great too but I hear you on the arm holes - wonder if it is mostly when you have your arms down as it doesn't seem to be showing in this pic. That bright colored silk top is gorgeous on you.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

texstyle, I checked and the blue stripe was not on sale (last night). It's pretty new. I would highly recommend it for you. It feels really breezy.

The white one IS on sale -- $10 off -- so I might just return and re-order if I decide I want it again. Although that seems a bit unkind to the environment....

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

Breezy sounds perfect. I hope the sizing works out (I wasn't sure and ordered my usual size). I know what you mean about the $10 - I'd probably just keep it unless I was ordering more of course.

  • Annie replied 9 years ago

Suz, I love the Zara Trafulac shirt on you! I've been looking for white button-downs with a twist and not for the office. The diagonal sleeves and the back pleats are so unique. Unfortunately it didn't look so great on me. My broad shoulders were exaggerated and it was quite roomy all over. Hope you keep the shirt and the magenta silk blouse as well!

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

Queen Cranberry, you must now be anointed Queen Zara, perhaps.  I love each one, but I was so taken by the white Trafulac top and then that discussion  on boob sightings veered me off course.  I "know" what you mean about the oversized nature of the armpits, but it's such a gorgeous shirt, I would consider it a "cooling accessory" and a "fabulous option" FWIW.  :)

The oversized striped shirt is wonderful (the stripes line up!) and will go with your color capsule.  No question the last cranberry top was meant for you.  It's a breezy, beautiful color on you, Suz.  Now, about you and Sveta, that's a whole different matter...you two, I'm just waiting to see what BOTH of you will do with NAS, and Shevia, too!  Trust me, the pleasure is all mine.  That's how I learn:  from my friends here.  :)
