Still Room in Our Wardrobes for Regular, NON-slouchy Trousers?

What's your verdict? Are they hopelessly passé and out of date, or can we still make a bit of space for them? And if so, when's the best time to wear?

Today at the consignment store I walked away with these charcoal wool Theory trousers.

They fit perfectly (no slouch) and are even PPL for my lowish heeled Siebel booties!

P.S. I got them for FREE!! (Well, I got them in exchange for stuff of mine that had sold.)

What do you think? Should I keep and wear? Or keep and alter into some other shape?

Trying on the Ann Taylor blouse with them just because it is SUCH a gorgeous fabric I would like to live in it!

Yes. Can't be too trendy all the time...

  • RunningSue replied 11 years ago

Suz, those look great, fit perfectly and flatter your shape. What a great find. And I agree with Rachylou, you can't be trendy all the time but classics are in style forever.

Love these! I want to come to K-town and see your awesome thrift stores, there's really not much good in the 'borough.

I have made a spot on my list for trousers like this. I hope my eventual pair look as great as these do on you!

They look like a great fit Suz. I don't see anything wrong with wearing classic pieces but if you feel like you want something more c**l (that's cool for anyone who isn't Angie) what about wearing them with your Gap cable knit sweater? Or a denim or leather jacket? Just to mix it up a bit.

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Suz, of course there's room for non-slouchy! From what I can see (dark colors can be so difficult to photograph!) these look like they fit you beautifully and that blouse is nothing short of amazing. I wouldn't alter these at all. This entire outfit on it's own is perfect.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

Suz: these are perfect-o. Angie alwaya says that classic is always classic and NEVER goes out of style. You look like amillion bucks and more in this outfit!!!

  • krishnidoux replied 11 years ago

Suz, so sassy! Yes, yes, do make room for them! And with the blouse, very impressive. And the belt is perfect for them. Congratulations for your sales and this new addition!

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh yes! These might even be in your closet longer than the trendy slouchy ones. They'll be great with a *cough* leather jacket. Or the closet denim facsimile. They look stunning on you and I LOVE your new silk blouse. It really suits your coloring and style!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Of course there's room and like Claire has pointed out, will probably still be in your closet in a couple of years whereas the slouchy style will have moved on.

These look AMAZING on you - talk about a perfect fit. And Theory to boot! Fantastic find Suz.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

    I think they're great!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

That seals it. If Anna approves, they are AOK.

My hubs actually said, "Those pants fit you better than anything else you own!"

That is a SLIGHT exaggeration, but they do fit pretty well, and the fabric is just gorgeous. It really brings to mind IronKurtain's thread earlier today about being willing to pay for quality. As it happens, I didn't HAVE to pay for these, but I could certainly feel the difference between them and the rest of the pants (mostly GAP) on that rack! My hand picked it up right away and pulled them out saying, "What size??"

Since I don't own a SINGLE pair of regular trousers (not denim) apart from the Gap Really Skinny and my new print pants from Ann Taylor, I figure these were worth a try.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Maybe you and I are finally getting the knack of being picky for quality and fit even in consignment stores Suz!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

It's also really neat to have learned my size in Theory. Assuming their sizing is consistent, that is.

  • christy replied 11 years ago

    I'm jealous - I can't wear Theory and I LOVE their clothes!!

  • replied 11 years ago

You have to have a little bit of everything, more fun that way.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

What a great find! Now you need an ivory slim chunky knit pullover!

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Yes, I prefer them to slouchy myself. I'm more into the classic looks, then trendy, though the slouchy ones are being pulled off nicely by a lot of ladies here.

And you look super hot in that outfit!

  • JR replied 11 years ago

I'm glad the consensus is yes, because I have several pairs, and intend to keep it that way. Trendy is great in certain contexts, but classic is great in even more.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Oh definitely room for these. They look terrific!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

If you can manage these babies in our slushy winter then keep! :-)
Seriously they are great trousers from a great brand so I say you had a successful thrifting day today.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Oh, Sveta, I know, I know!! What to do with them in winter. Well, we do get the occasional crisp, clear day without too much gunk on the ground. So I will save them for such occasions.

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

You do? Wow, because here in London if we get snow it stays for a long time - and usually it is a lot of snow. And salt! As a rule I wear my bootcuts and wide legs until snow comes in December and then after it is gone in March (not often happens) or April.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

You get more snow than we do most years, Sveta. (Some years we get a LOT, some years not so much.)

But if it is a snowy year, maybe I will start a new/old trend of tucking wide trousers into boots!

  • shiny replied 11 years ago

Your classic outfit only needs one thing: a long string of pearls. Trust me on this one... pearls bring out the white in the pattern of the blouse. :-)

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Great! Maybe I will pick them up in China, oh blouse twin!

Although I have to say, I am wearing less and less jewelry these days (and I never wore much to begin with!)

  • celia replied 11 years ago

I do think this ones must have a place in your life, they fit you like a dream, and that shirt is too gorgeous for words.

If we must talk about salt and snow(why can't you let me live in denial?), this kind of pants are not walking pants but if it is to go into the car and get out of the car for a more formal occasion I will totally do it.

Tucking wide trousers in boots sounds perfectly fine to me also, after all, we do have to take our boots off when we get to someone's house, so who will know, right?

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Suz these look really good. Personally I like to have a number of different style pants in my wardrobe. Currently I have skinny leg, straight leg, slouchy and wide leg. I like the diversity of being able to create slightly different looks with subtle changes to my silhouette. these are keepers.

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

these fit you perfectly, Suz. i have never been to any consignment store here in Kingston. What's the name?
You are leaving for China tomorrow. Oh so exciting.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

I love the faint whiff of sailor. Don't you dare get rid of them!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Despite trends, I think there is *always* a place in our closets for a perfect-fitting pair of trousers. Slouchy won't be in style forever, but good fit will. Keep!

  • moira replied 11 years ago

These are classics and will never go out of style. Like an A-line skirt or a pea coat, some things are timeless.

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Oh, good grief, YES. Great trousers.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

These are amazing on you (both the blouse and pants) Good fitting trousers never out of style. These look made for you so happy day they were a deal to boot.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    KILLER

The classics never let is down. Loving that belt, Suz!

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago
