WIW: Wide leg trousers & fluid knitwear

We had a beautiful, sunny and mild day here, so I pulled out my wide leg trousers for my downtown shopping expedition. (Sadly, not a success...I am shopping for my YLF secret friend and I am annoyed because she is someone I feel very eager to buy for, have great ideas for -- and yet the stores are not yielding anything worthy of her! Grrrr.)

I love these Theory Emery stretch wool trousers. They are a soft warm flannel in charcoal. Sadly, the new version does not fit the way these ones fit me. So I'll need to replace with something different when the time comes. These were a lucky consignment store "freebie" (in exchange for things I no longer wanted.) I had the hems let down a bit for PPL but I'm not sure Wonder Woman East took them quite as far as she ought to have. We had a bit of a heated debate on the subject. She is not versed in PPL. ;)

I also had the sleeves shortened on my Danier jacket. What a fab service that is. They took them up from the shoulder so I don't lose the zipper detail at the bottom. And it only cost $25. Impeccable job.

Shannon, if you read this, I borrowed your idea and stuck my GAP sweater into the dryer  -- it helped! I still need to do that every wearing, but it is making it possible to wear this again.

Cranberry suede booties: Munro (like slippers...ah!)
Wide legs: Theory Emery
Belt: no name
Sweater: Gap mesh sleeve
Scarf: souvenir of China
Jacket: Danier
Bag: Tiganello

Gorgeous outfit! I especially love how you tied the scarf.

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

I love your outfit. Everything looks wonderful! Good lcuk shopping for your secret santa.

    Lovely!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

You have really nailed fluidity and proportions in this outfit Suz. Absolutely delicious!!!

So glad the dryer bit helped with your sweater - I put my grey one and cream one in the dryer every time I wash them and it totally takes them back to pre-stretched shape.

Isn't Danier's tailoring service worth every penny?

ETA: I love how you're wearing your scarf. Beautiful.

  • donnat replied 10 years ago

Absolutely lovely. You have nailed it.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love the flow, and the white/dark balance is beautiful.  Love the scarf!  I spent the whole adoption trip in the White Swan at Guangzhou.  I have some wonderful souvenirs, myself!

I think the pants are pretty close to PPL.  With your ease with language, I'm sure you communicated your wishes.  Sorry to hear she failed to deliver on them!  A common complaint these days, I fear.

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

I love this look! So bright and modern and clean. The pants look fine to me. I had the same issue with a pair of white wide leg pants I bought - tailors definitely have ideas of their own!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Great find with those slacks, they're gorgeous - as is the rest of the outfit. Good idea to pull out those pants before the snow flies. The scarf from China is beautiful, I don't recall seeing it before. And $25 to shorten those sleeves is pretty amazing.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

You look like Angie's sister here!  So pretty and polished.  I'm taking notes on the Munros... Made in the USA (hey!)*

*(If you know of any Made in Canada footwear brands let me know -- I seem to recall La Canadienne being made locally?  Although no longer an absolute, I still like to buy North American produced goods.)

ETA --  love the Chinese scarf, it doesn't look Asian to me, it looks Tory Burch.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Hangzhou (where my daughter comes from) is renowned for its silks, many of which are exported, of course. So somebody like Tory Burch probably buys from the factory store where I got the scarf.

Denise, I love my made-in-the-USA Munros. They are just sublime for the comfort, and worth the extra money (not that I paid all that much anyway, since I got them at the NAS!) La Canadienne is made in Canada; here is what they say:

Our products are made in our factory in Montreal Canada, one of the last family-owned Canadian shoe factories, with over 70 years of experience crafting footwear. Our employees are true craftsmen, whose skills and dedication to their trade are found in each and every pair of shoes produced.

We adhere to North American labor laws and meet all environmental standards regulating workplace health and safety.  Providing a respected workplace for our employees is paramount to the success of our products.

Danier is also made in Canada, FWIW, at least I think so!

I also really, really, REALLY love my True Religion Camerons and am so glad I got them. There is a made in the USA product that is totally worth it, IMO. And I have you and Angie to thank for modelling them for me.

Pil, I wore that scarf a fair bit in the spring. I really prefer to go "scarf less" but with my short hair and long neck combo I am afraid it's either that or turtlenecks in my climate as it gets cooler.

Beth Ann, Sharon -- it's some comfort to know I am not the only one who struggles to convey the rules of PPL!

Beth Ann -- I got this scarf on our most recent trip. On our first visit I bought a wonderful silk jacket, but now it is too big for me, alas...

Thank you all for the lovely compliments. And yes, Shannon, that dryer trick has made all the difference. I was ready to toss the sweaters, but now this one, in particular, is a workhorse.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Simply scrumptious trousers. I wish Theory pants fit me!
    Love the short-over long proportions.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

You look beautiful Suz - great outfit :)

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

How is this for telepathic connection: I wore my wide leg Editors, suede booties and leather jacket today too! Mind you the colors were different and I wore a denim shirt instead of sweater ( was getting haircut so no knitwear) but still...
    Love your outfit!
(psst: try online shopping for SS: you can ship directly to her and selection is much better...Etsy and ebay are especially good for this)

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

Suz, you look great!  I really like the way you tied your scarf.  Excellent tip re: the Danier tailoring, I didn't know they did that.

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Now this is how wide leg/ fluid trousers should work (and what I'm striving for!). Totally fab.

I wore MY new Danier jacket (the eggplant one) today. Temps hit 8 deg. C and felt like a million while running errands.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Just last weekend I was trying to figure out how to style this gap sweater for fall.  I wasn't successful, but you were, and I'm going to copy your styling soon, before it gets really cold!

(I may be the only one who prefers this sweater long - no putting it in the dryer for me!)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Carla, I am certain you looked like a million, too!

Emily, Danier's tailoring is second to none so if sleeves are your nemesis (they are mine) then fear no more.

Sveta, I thought of you today!! I was imagining that you might be wearing wide leg pants and the leather jacket, too. We don't get that kind of weather very often so it is important to enjoy it while it lasts. And yes, I had already started browsing Etsy. I think that is the way it is going to go since Kingston does not have much in the way of shopping options and I want something really nice.

    Thank you all!

ETA: Amy - I was wearing a cami under the sweater, too, for warmth. It's definitely wearable in fall but I won't really wear it in winter. Oh - - and it's not the length that bugs me (I just faux tuck). It's the width...

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Suz, it was a glorious day, wasn't it? I think we had 12C today.
I used Etsy for SS every year. It has a good selection of great accessories in a correct price range. You can ask the seller to wrap it as a gift and include any message you want! The shipping cost is usually less that it would cost you to post from Canada (even to a Canadian address). Also as an added bonus your recepient could not guess from the return address who sent it - total mistery!
    :-)

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

A beautiful splash of winter white. Gorgeous!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Hello Danier jacket triplet (thanks to Sveta!) and what an impressive way to alter the sleeves. I just let them "hang" where they may. :)

You look so comfortable and pretty and your Theory trousers must be do warm and comfy. Is "Emery" a style, like the Gabe B or Lanai? Just curious.

So, what's the story on Shannon's dryer technique with the GAP top? I've moved away from this top, because it does "stretch" big time. Is this what Shannon and the dryer are all about? I'm intrigued.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Vicki, the Emery are one of the Theory staple trousers, their wide-leg version. They usually make these in whatever their suiting fabric of the season is. Except now they have changed the cut and fabrics and they don't work for me this year. Luckily, I have this older model.

And Shannon's idea is just to throw this GAP sweater into the dryer every time you wash it. I have been doing this (instead of air drying) and it has made the thing more wearable to me. It does stretch out and bag during wear but nowhere near as much as it used to.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Suz, you are just so darned chic! I really like the way you're wearing that scarf.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Love! My kinda outfit. I love wide leg trousers.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Suz, this is a beautiful outfit. Love those pants on you, so flattering. I am excited to see your white belt because i just bought one myself yesterday to go with my wider leg pants, may have to copy cat you.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Love love love the red accents!!  As always a Suz-perfect-fit outfit!

  • MsLuna replied 10 years ago

Love the outfit! Very classic colour combinations!

I think you should wear wide leg trousers more often ;) You look really good in them!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

Fantastic outfit! You look great, Suz. I love the white sweater and belt (and jacket), with the red shoes, scarf, and bracelet. Lovely!
The pants length looks fine to me. I have such trouble with bootcut length, not just because of different shoe heel heights (which is hard enough), but because if I gain a pound, they get short, and if I lose a pound or two, they can be too close to the ground or dragging!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

It's exciting when the thumbnails alone look s promising and those two seconds until the big image opens seem to last forever.

This is simply beautiful, fresh, bright and seasonally appropriate. And I don't even have to say what I think of the red shoes, do I?

One other thing that I must comment on - $25 for altering the leather jacket? That Danier alone makes me want to come to Canada :-)

  • krishnidoux replied 10 years ago

Oh wow. You are so adorable!!!!

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

everything about this outfit is perfect!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Very pretty, very fluid outfit. That scarf is gorgeous! And that jacket, well, there aren't words...I simply have to get over the border next summer and visit their store.
I see what you mean about the pant length - I think it looks fine, but I'd like to see them about a quarter to a half inch longer.

  • carter replied 10 years ago

This is really beautiful. Great outfit. Gorgeous scarf!

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

I love all the details here--the mixing of white and cream, your scarf, the matching bracelet, etc. I think the trouser length looks good in the side shot. It could also be the tiniest bit longer, but not enough to redo in my opinion. That is so fab that they could shorten the jacket from the shoulder. If I had somewhere to go that I trusted I would ask for that on my moto. It also has a zipper on the sleeve and is a titch long.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Another beautiful outfit Suz! Love the elegant trousers with simple whites sweatter and white jacket is so special! I would say, it's strickingly simple!:-)

  • Word Lily replied 10 years ago

Ack, you look vibrant (so much I can hardly stand it)! Gorgeous.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I love how Shannon put it. You have nailed fluidity and proportions and look like a million bucks. Well done, gorgeous Suz.

  • Elly replied 10 years ago

I love the look on you, the proportions work just as well on you as they do on Angie although you have slightly different body types. I have lovely trousers for a similar look, but no tops yet. Well, I have one but fuzzy wool trousers and a short sleeve semi-sheer blouse would leave me cold or hot and seasonally confused.

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

Great outfit! The proportions of dark and light color are right on, and the scarf is a brilliant accent. Something about these pants makes your legs look l-o-n-g. :) I also like the white belt very much.

On a separate note, we too adopted our son from China, near Shanghai. What an amazing and rewarding experience!

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

I very much love this look on you, Suz.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous outfit!  I may have to copy this look sometime.  I have wide leg trousers and a white blazer, hmm...:)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Windchime, that is amazing. Beth Ann also has a daughter from China. There are a few of us here!

Thank you everyone for the lovely compliments. I felt great in that outfit and Mr. Suz also complimented me, so I guess it worked! It was just so nice to wear those pants while the weather held.

  • HelloKitty replied 10 years ago

Suz, this outfit is sublime.  I cannot wait to copy it!  Beautiful.  I haven't done any real shopping yet this fall/winter, but wide-leg trousers are now at the top of my list!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

What a beautiful outfit on beautiful you!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Suz, I love everything about this look for you.  Do you think it meets all your criteria for feeling good, and can we figure out why?  I'll have to go back and reread the thread.

So disappointed to hear about the Theory pants.  I have not tried the new version of the Max C. either, but I fear it will be disappointing, since the old ones were perfect for me.  Sigh.

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

Wow!  I really love this.  Reminds me of Angie's post on outfit simplicity!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Una, this outfit comes pretty close to fulfilling all my criteria. To be perfect those booties would need to be super current (pointy toed) and I'd get rid of the scarf...(I like even more minimalism but in fall I hate a bare neck, so scarves it is...or turtlenecks). But mostly it's about fit, ease, proportion. A sense of casual elegance and refinement. Angie epitomizes this, of course. I just copy her in my lame way. :)
